What would happened when one RAC node's public NIC down ?

Dear all,
There's a two-node RAC on my office. As my observation, when one RAC node's public NIC is down, the "crs_stat -t" command wouldn't show any resource is OFFLINE. So at this moment if i use sqlplus to connect to my RAC db, it still will choose node1 or node2 instance randomly right? And if i've been assigned to the node's instance whose public NIC is down, my sqlplus would failed to connect to db?
So, can we say that Oracle RAC can't supply HA function if one node's public NIC is down? Or is there just any other solution to solve this issue? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Public node is down means that only one node would be able to take the load i.e. in your case it will be Node 2. It may happen that CRS is unable to record the status - in such case there may be failed connections to one node.

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.

I have a question about how redo log get archived when one of the instances in a two node RAC cluster is down (not open, not mounted).
For example, let's assume instance1 was shutdown and only instance 2 is running.

The documentation says +Specify CURRENT to manually archive the current redo log file group of the specified thread, forcing a log switch. If you omit the THREAD parameter, then Oracle Database archives all redo log file groups from all enabled threads, including logs previous to current logs. You can specify CURRENT only when the database is open.+
Would Oracle archive sequence# 3391 from thread 1 even though the instance is not open?

When your instance are not working, it means that it doesn't have any CURRENT redo log. So when you issue switching logfile - it launches archiving only current redo log, for working instance only. That 3391 redo log is not current, it has Active status, that means that it could be needed for recovery purpose, but it had to be archived earlier.

What actually happens when one deactivates 2010 Solution (saved site template)

I've come to the conclusion that a saved Site Template (Solution) cannot be edited. But I came across some articles that alluded to taking the WSP file off-line and hacking on it. So I went to "Save" it and SP says I have to deactivate it
first. Figuring no one would be trying to create a new site in the next few minutes it would take me to save it, I tried to deactivate it. Then I get the warning that if I deactivate it existing sites spawned from the template will lose functionality.
What are they talking about?

First of all, you should be able to download the solution (wsp) without having to deactivate it.
Second, I've deactivated site template solutions a countless number of times and have never had any issues. Are you referring to the following warning?
Warning: Deactivating this solution turns off the capabilities of this solution. Some parts of this site may no longer function. You may want to check the usage of this solution before deactivating it.
If so, that will not affect the sites created using the template. It's a generic warning for all "Solutions" and in most cases apply to features, web parts etc that gets used in multiple sites and deactivating it would cause it to break its functionality.

Have an iphone4...what would happen when I connect my 3G to itunes?

I have changed phones to the iPhone4 but still own my iphone 3G. I want to use it as basically a 'gaming' console and leave all the apps on it that were there before the transfer.
However, I failed to unsynch some things (like photos) that I can't manually delete because I only get a 'share' or 'copy' function.
If I connect this phone to itunes with the purpose of 'unsynching' things like photos, contacts, etc?, will that make the phone completely unusable?
Unfortunately, no way to test this out so I was hoping someone had an answer for me.

You'll be able to use your 3G as an iPod Touch. My wife upgraded her 3G to a 4, too. What you need to do is power off your 3G, then remove the SIM Card. When you power back up, iPhone 3G will warn you about a missing 3G card. Ignore the warning, it'll go away soon enough.
Plug your 3G into iTunes, and run a manual backup. That will back up messages, photos, app data (not the apps themselves), and settings. When it's done, plug in your iPhone 4 and you should be able to do a data restore. We did this for my wife's phone.
After that's done, you can either wipe your iPhone 3G or you can do a complete recovery/upgrade to iOS 4.

Yes. Other things have synced including books, but I don't know how these happened. According to the 'audible' instructions it should happen automatically, but it doesn't.

The computer on a trip will do snapshot backups on the hard drive that will then be incorporated into the Time Machine backup once you get it back home. See

Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder and enter or paste the appropriate command line. Press RETURN and enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed.

For example, I turned on Home Sharing for two computers in my home. Therefore, the two itunes libraries contain the same data. However, if one computer got a virus and all its data has been wiped out, including my music, films on iTunes - basically, if the computer just broke down....What would happen to the iTunes library in the other computer? Would all its data be wiped out as well?

Home Sharing lets you stream or copy media from one library to another. If you stream media only the source computer has a copy of the data. If that machine died you would lose the data. If you copy the media across then you have a backup. I don't offhand know if Home Sharing lets you copy ripped CDs as well as store purchases as I've never used it.
I would recommend you have one master library that you sync all of your devices to and you back that up! Other computers can then stream content or you can make local copies.

What I am ultimately wanting to do is make more room on my computer by backing up all of my files onto the external hard drive and then deleting them off of my computer. However, neededing to be able to retrieve them from the external hard drive later down the road.
From what I have read and am trying to understand, is that I probably shouldn't have used time machine. I need to use the external hard drive like a basic flash drive where I can put things on and get things off without having it automatically update through time machine everytime I connect it to my computer.
Not tech savvy at all and barely understand basics. I need very simple and easy to understand explanations.

The number of people who have experienced terror by having a single external HD backup is enormous. One failure that WILL HAPPEN, and kaput,......all gone!

Deleting them off your computer is fine....having only ONE copy is extremely BAD.

Hard drives aren't prone to failure…hard drives are guaranteed to fail (the very same is true of SSD). Hard drives dont die when aged, hard drives die at any age, and peak in death when young and slowly increase in risk as they age.
Never practice at any time for any reason the false premise and unreal sense of security in thinking your data is safe on any single external hard drive. This is never the case and has proven to be the single most common horrible tragedy of data loss that exists.
Many 100s of millions of hours of lost work and data are lost each year due to this single common false security. This is an unnatural disaster that can avoid by making all data redundant and then redundant again. If you let a $60 additional redundant hard drive and 3 hours of copying stand between you and years of work, then you've made a fundamental mistake countless 1000s of people each year have come to regret.

What's happening when Word opens and saves a document?

I got very unspecific question, but I don't know where to start. I have an open xml document which gets generated by a third party tool. If I open the document using open xml sdk it looks VERY different from how it looks like when I opened and saved it before
using Word 2013.
I'm trying to get an understanding on whats Word doing! From what I've seen it's doing some remodelling on the xml file, since it looks very different (other and way more descendants than before) and I would like to achieve the same thing using open xml.
Although this might be already to much information: The generated word documents contains html code with links to pictures. After Word has touched the file the picture is inside a drawing element, before it's not but in Word both versions look the same.
I'm thankful for any help you can give me.

This forum is discussing about Open XML developing. This is not exactly an OpenXML SDK questions. To be frank, I do not know exactly what Word opens and saves a documents either (this is the implementation details of the product).

What do you mean by “other and way more descendants”? Do you mean that you want to add new nodes in the xml document? In my option, different objects in word have different nodes. You could refer the link below for more information about Word processing.

If it is a Gmail account, that is normal. How do you expect Google to exploit your privacy if they let you just delete your emails willy nilly?
GGmail isn't a normal IMAP server. It's not really an IMAP server at all; it just pretends to be one.
Instead of organizing messages into folders, it tags messages with "Labels." A message can have multiple Labels. By default, a new message comes with an "Inbox" Label and an "All Mail" Label. When you "delete" an email from GMail, it merely removes the "Inbox" label, but keeps the "All Mail" label.
When Apple revamped Mail, it made it more capable of working with GMail. One of those things was to map the "All Mail" label to the Archive folder in Mail. Now you can see how Google has kept all of the email you thought you were deleting.

I used it to set up Mail and GMail so that when I delete an email in Mail, it also deletes it from the GMail server.
Most ost of the firat article is no longer needed, except the step to force deletion of emails.

In (another) addition, I recall getting deadlock errors as well, due to a totally wrongly defined transaction, using slow-by-slow processing (many moons ago, but I still wake up screaming in the middle of the night when dreaming of that code).

It depends on the understanding you have of them, regarding how they work, and what surprises/data corruption/errors they can give you.
We don't know what you're trying to implement here, but I'd stay far from using an autonomous transaction.
They're only good for logging errors.
Not for fixing datamodel issues or fixing poorly designed transactions based on incomplete/incorrect business rules.
They are not workarounds.
That's been my rule as well for years now.
In general you need to stay away from them. Far far away. Just like the WHEN OTHERS exception.
And especially when you've come to believe that an autonomous transaction will save your day, while it's doing something else than errorlogging in a separate procedure call which in it's turn an autonomous transaction!
Suggest you read up on DML Error Logging then.
You can search http://asktom.oracle.com for more examples and explanations.
Also Metalink/My Oracle Support, if you have access.

What would happen if I reformatted?

My computer has been having many issues since FiOS triple play was installed. Also still have resolved IHA only showing internet and not TV and phone like it should. So I was wondering what would happen if I reformatted my computer? Would I lose anything? Is there a file someone can direct me to incase I lose the driver to the router in process?
Also, another option is to uninstall everything verizon that is currently installed. Thinking previous DSL information on my computer might be the culprit, but since I don't know what files belong to DSL and what files belongs to FiOS I figured I'd just remove everything verizon and start fresh.
What program/information does the Installation Tech use when installing FiOS in your home that's on that little white jump drive?

I actually uninstalled/removed/deleted any and all reference to Verizon, IHA, and VZ in my computer files(that I could find and recognize as verizon files). Then went to activate my FiOS.   Now, In Home Agent actually shows my TV and Phone as well as my internet(it would only show internet). So I believe my guess was right that previous Verizon DSL files that remained on my computer were interfering with In Home Agent.    I'm pleased to have fixed the issue.    I have this "Resume FiOS activation" icon on my desktop that won't go away, no matter how many times I click it and apparently finish the activation.   And In Home Agent keeps asking me to update to the newer version. I click yes, it reloads, asks again, click yes, reloads, asks again.   So I just click no.    Also In Home Agent keeps telling me that my password is incorrect.   I'll change it, the program will automatically insert the NEW password into the box, and it will say it's incorrect again.   Eish! I want to bang my head against a wall right now!
Also, Verizon.com under my services still shows that my set top boxes are not activated, and any widgets I try to apply don't show up on the TV. As well as it only gives me the option of adding widgets to one STB, and not the other two. As in, only one of my three STB's in the drop down box.
This all is prett silly as far as I'm concerned.   A lot of bugs and kinks in the system and no one at Verizon seems to know how to fix any of it.   I love the faster more reliable internet, more reliable TV, more phone features than I had for one price comparable to all three as separate services(Dish, DSL, Home phone). But I am not in love with the technical problems for which there are no answers. From anyone.   Thinking Verizon's going to have to up the ante to compensate for all the headaches that have been caused by technical problems. Like a lower price. I think I deserve a couple people's hourly wage for figuring out what 3 support techs couldn't.

BTW, I got another issue, hope can help me, I'm updating my OS X maverick to new one 10.9.2, while updating I need to restart my laptop to update, however i got this error message, "Install Failed! OS X could not be installed on your computer. The installer encounter an error that caused the installation fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. Click Restart to restart your computerand try installing again." I did that so many times, unfortunately, nothing happens. This is the 1st time Ive ever encounter that issue while updating my Mac. Now, i cannot even go to my main menu, coz everytime I turn on my laptop it's shows the updating process and go back to failed installation. Thanks.
