What would you do??    ( Question away from is Aperture pro or not)

A client came and asked to do a slide show for him. He wants to have the highest resolution possible and wants to play it on a 1080p 50 inch LCD TV and have it on DVD. He wants to have transitions some FX and credits. How would you do that and what format would you chose. We tried to export from Iphoto and import in FCP Studio2 for the FX but the quality didn't convince. Any ideas???

just do all the work in FCP or DVD SP
the problem you will run into is that unless they have a HD-DVD player they won't be able to get best quality
try asking on the DVDSP forum

Okay everybody...so I'm on the struggle bus so I'm going from Photoshop cs6 off my old broken laptop to trying to dwn Photoshop Cs2...either way I love PS. Now when I tried downloading it for free from Adobe...succeeded...but when I went to the download folder to install it, it said "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?" I mean....what would you do? Is it safe to click yes....(Don Don Don...*sound effect*)..please help...

If you already have a license for photoshop cs6, why do you want photoshop cs2?
You can just install photoshop cs6 on your new computer provided both operating systems are the same kind (both mac or both windows)
If you don't have an install dvd for cs6, you can download photoshop cs6 from here and use your serial:

Question:  Do I need to run and anti virus program with MAC OSX Lion? Have heard different opinions! If so what would you recommend? Was looking at Sophos. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks

Do I need to run and anti virus program with MAC OSX Lion? Have heard different opinions!
You will continue to hear different opinions here, where thoughts range everywhere between "anti-virus software is the evil spawn of Satan" to "anyone not running anti-virus software is a fool."
Truth is, this is still a very personal decision on a Mac. Depending on circumstances, it is still very easily possible to stay safe without using anti-virus software, but circumstances and personal preferences vary widely. Besides which, anti-virus software cannot even remotely provide you a guarantee of protection!
To learn how to stay safe (with or without anti-virus software), and how to decide whether to use anti-virus software, see my Mac Malware Guide.

  • STS question, what would you answer. NO STS employees pls!

You have written a procedure that checks for the existence of students registered for a course. This code must be executed whenever a course is deleted. Which type of trigger should be used to call this procedure?
    Key trigger
    Mouse trigger
    Validation trigger
    Transactional trigger
What would you reply, i personally went for the last one
    Gus

if this code has to be executed every time a course is deleted, then use a BEFORE-EACH-ROW-Trigger on the table directly.
Only if you need the code in the forms you should write it there.
Watch out for mutating and constraining-trigger-problems in the database.
    try it

  • If you traded in your mac mini for a windows pc, what would you get?

I have a late 2009 Mac Mini and am just chafing to upgrade. It's slow as molasses.  But at the same time, I'm not willing to pay full price for 2012 model, and Apple is way behind in releasing an update. In fact I'm hearing speculation that Apple may be just discontinuing the Mac Mini.
I don't know... But I'm getting tired of waiting. And getting a different model of Mac doens't work for me, because I want to use my own screens. (I'm running two large screens in "portrait" mode.)
Also, I have a Windows 7 PC at work, and I've come to realize that I don't mind Windows 7 and don't see it as intrinsically better than the Apple OS. In fact Windows & has generally been mariginally more stable, and a lot faster then the OS on my Mac. In fact I got both systems around the same time and the Windows 7 system did better with less RAM and is "aging" better.
HOWEVER, what I really love about the Mac Mini is how QUIET it is. I have it in my bedroom, next to my bed, and it's noise is barely noticeable. So I guess I should look into seeing if there area any desktop PC's that are as quiet.
Have you considered switching back to a PC, and if you did what would you get?

I moved away from Apple in 2007 and have never looked back !
    I use the ASRock Vision X 420D  http://www.asrock.com/nettop/Intel/VisionX%20Series%20(Haswell)/
Its the same size as the current Mini but a bit taller - BUT it is FULLY user upgradeable and about the same price once you make a mini upto the same spec.
I run Windows 8.1 on it and love it - yes there are lots of people bleating on about the 'metro' style of Win 8 but if you configure it (which has been a feature from launch, not a 3rd party hack) you never have to see the metro interface and you have a standard desktop.
As to woodmeister50 comment of : Also, with Win8, many third party add on companies have dropped support etc. is that not the same for Mavericks ?!

  • Why do you force us away from genius iweb? Where can I get iweb to my mbook pro with Lion? Upgrade and loose iweb?

    Hi
I´m new here so I don´t know if theese questions are reacheing the Apples staff or only for the community useres..
But I put my frustration out here anyway.. :-) (and sry for my norwegian/eng)
I have like 12 differerent wen sites that I manage, very simple made, but working, thats why I like iweb cos it´s simple and it works.
I have now finnaly taken the step away for PC laptop also, so I went buying a brand new macbook pro weith Lion the other day.
Wanted to work on the websites while and travelling, so I copied all the domain info from myc stationary mac to a USB, ready to put into my new friend..
    What????
    No iweb in the programs..
So there goes that plan into pieces... How to I fix that case? Buying an old ilife and try to intall it?
Then I wanted to upgrad my stationary mac... but reading forums before I do so... DO NOT UPGRADE IF YOU ARE USING IWEB!!!!
Well, thats enough said for me to cancel upgrading for me..
WHY ARE YOU FORCING US AWAY FROM YOUR IWEB???
WHY NOT MAKE A PROGRAM THAT CAN COVERT OUR IWEB INFO TO ANOTHER PROGRAM?
I THINK YOU APPLE GUY´S NOW ARE FORCING US TO DO MOORE AND MOORE STUFF... AND I DON´T LIKE IT ONE BIT!
YOU ARE FORCING US TO LOOK OVER OUR SHOULDER AND BACK TO WERE PC IS AT THE MOMENT.. HAVE THEY IMPROVED SO I CAN GO BACK??
So, as you can understand here, I don´t like the direction that where Apple is going, it´s very roude and to much business now a days..
Not taking care of it´s customers I think..
If you take my point here in basic norw/ eng...
Ok, that smy frustrations, have a nice day all!

That will work.  The latest version of iWeb does run on Lion (with a couple of quirks).
But be aware that iWeb is clearly a dead end;  fixes/updates/improvements are highly unlikely, and it may quit working with new versions of OSX (possibly even future updates to Lion).
If you're using MobileMe as a host, that will stop in June of 2011, so you'll have to move your site elsewhere.  You can still use iWeb with it; a few changes are required on the Site Publishing Settings page, of course, but they're pretty simple.  And a few features won't work, but there are workarounds for them.
I recently moved my iWeb site from MobileMe to GoDaddy, and it was relatively painless.
See https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/iweb for much more discussion.

  • Photo/Video editing PC build; what would you change and why?

I'm in the planning phase of my first photo/video editing PC build.  I've done quite a bit of research to this point, and I've finally come to a decision on all of the components (I think).  After seeing how helpful everyone is on this forum, I decided to post my plan and see what everyone thinks.
Miscellaneous info:  I am an amateur photographer looking to expand my horizons and venture into the video realm.  I will be running Windows 7 64bit with Adobe CS5 Production Premium and Lightroom 3 on a singe solid state drive and everything else will be on a 3 drive RAID 0 config.  Eventually I plan on purchasing a RAID card and a few more drives for a RAID 3 (or 5) config, but that won't be for a while.
    Ok, here's my planned build...

So, what would you change and why?
I'm looking forward to your responses!

"I'll take your advice and go with Samsung F3s.  With the money I save  (by not getting the WD Caviar Blacks), I'll add a 4th drive and use the  RAID5 on the mobo until I can afford to upgrade to a proper RAID  controller."
I might be a bit late, but wanted to let you know about motherboard software RAID configs (at least mine):
I have an older system running an ASUS P5AD2-E Premium MB containing a Silicon Image 3114 RAID chip. I originally configured a RAID 10 array with four 74 G Raptors for speed and redundancy. Figured if I lost a disc, I could just rebuid the array. Come to find out, the Sil 3114 chip does not support rebuilding the RAID 10 array.
I had lost a disc (disc was okay, just power to the disc was interupted) so was running on three. Fixed my power problem, went to rebuild the array and couldn't. So I figured what is the point of having a RAID 10 that I couldn't rebuild. Went to a RAID 0 with a backup disk.
Never checked the documentation to see if software RAID 5 through the SIl 3114 was rebuildable.
Mind you, I am not a computer guru nor all knowledgable about software/harware based RAID configs. But after talking to others who are the guru's, I found that I should stay away from the motherboard software RAID arrays and they mirror what Harm said about hardware RAID boards. But on a budget, the RAID 0 with a backup drive works for me.
Just my 2 cents to help.

  • What would you say my gaming rig is worth?

    Bluedevil58 wrote:
I've been offered $700 for the entire set up.If that's true, take it. You're not going to get anything near that from someone who knows how to shop.

I know this is a high level question but just throw a ball park figure at me.  This rig was built in 2010.  But has been upgraded several times.  It's a custom built gaming setup and I have had no hard ware issues what so ever as to date aside from a occasional format due to blue screen of death issues.
    It has:
    - A gaming case that has room for growth.  Not sure of the name.
    - First gen i7 processor
    - 8GB RAM
    - 120 GB SSD and 500 GB HD
    - RADEON 7800 HD Graphics card.
    - 1 24 inch LCD monitor and 1 24 inch IPS monitor.
    - Naga Razer gaming mouse.
At a rough estimate.  What would you expect to spend on a rig like this?  I am looking to sell this.

  • What would you do with a PowerBook 1400cs?

    Hi!
What would you do with a PowerBook 1400cs? Sell it for almost nothing? Give it away to somebody?..
I just thought you may share some ideas about it!..
It was my first portable mac (before I had a LCII), but I have to move away from a place and I have a lot of stuff..
    Thanks!!

    Give it away to somebody?..
Yes, why not? As you know, this computer is perfectly good for word processing. With a modem, it can be used for email and light web surfing during travels. Someone might even want to try to use it wirelessly.

  • What would you do with Intel iMacs with WM97/Thus-T in Word ?

In a school in Marin County there are 20 Intel iMacs running 10.4.11 (512 MB RAM) all networked and running fine.  Several students reported a Macro warning notice when launching a Word (Mac 2004 Student edition) document (.doc).    Have looked over the current available anti-viral programs running under 10.4.11 and submitted several files to three different websites which analyze the file against 20 or more virus detectors.  Most sites and local apps found the WM97/Thus-T virus in all the offending files.   The only free application which cured the files, rather than quarantining them or deleting them, and ran with 10.4.11 was Sophos.   Sampled only one of the iMacs with a full Sophos scan of the User folder, and it found 47  "WM97/Thus-T" infected files, and cured all of them.  Repeat scan of Home folder ----> no threats found.   Some of these infected Word files go back three years, and the machines are running fine.
The students are not supposed to bring files from home, nor are they supposed to take files home.  There are a few PC towers and PC laptops on site, all with anti-viral software. The students do not currently e-mail this files nor receive e-mailed files.  For fun, I tried e-mailing one of the infected files to myself, and aol and gmail both blocked the transmission.
QUESTION:   What would you now do ?  It doesn't seem this WM97/Thus-T is a threat to Macs.  Would you feel compelled or it's mandatory to run Sophos on all the Macs on site ?
What about liability ?   If one of these infected Word files found its way on a Windows PC would the school be liable ?   What is the worst case scenario of this virus on the Mac platform ?    On the Windows platform ?

Thank you for your time and help.

No viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions.
It is possible, however, to pass on a Windows virus to another Windows user, for example through an email attachment. To prevent this all you need is the free anti-virus utility ClamXav, which you can download from:

and for Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion from here:  http://www.clamxav.com/

  • One Accesspoint and two server...what would you suggest?

    Hello!
I'm developing an application which handles two wireless barcodereaders. There are two computers, and one of them is connected with the accesspoint.
The communication to and from the accesspoint is managed with an COM Component, which is used from Java.
The barcodescanners should interact with my application , for excample if the salesman scanns a customer-ticket, the customers data should be displayed on the screen. The barcodereaders can be identified with an uniqu id, so it's no problem to know where the data came from.
But my problem is...I'm getting all of the events to the computer which is connected with the accesspoint....
How do I tell the other computer to display the customers data which have been scanned with the other barcodereader?
How can I get the event handled on the other computer???
Sockets would be a possible way, but I think that might get very complex - than i thought i could call with RMI a fireEvent Method on the 2nd computer...!?!
What would you do to solve this problem?
I'd be happy for your help!
    Greetings Martin G.

Nobody out there who knows how to solve this problem?
My main problem is how to get events which occure on on computer handled on the other computer!?!
I'd be very happy for your help

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

  • I have a great number of Hi8 video tapes and I would like to burn them onto CDs through MacBook Pro (ME665LL/A), but I do not know how to transfer those footage into Mac. What would you recommend?

Hello everybody! My question is; my parents and I have a great number of video tapes (Hi8 and mini DV) and since I purchased a MacBook Pro (ME665LL/A) I would like to burn them onto CDs, but I do not know how to transfer those footage into Mac. What would you recommend(it can be a software, a hardware or combination of both)? By the way, I also purchased an external DVD-RW(Asus SDRW-08D2S) separately.

Just Google "convert hi8 to dvd" and you'll find a number of software/hardware combinations that will allow you to do what you want. One important piece of the puzzle is whether or not you still have access to the video recorder(s) that the movies were shot on.
    Good luck,

  • CS4 and consistent crashing...what would you advise?

    Hi,
I have recently installed Windows 7 32 bit and have been suffering significant crashing and instability with Premiere Pro CS4.
These issues occur consistently with 1 to 20 minutes of using the software...usually every 2-7 minutes.
Sometimes I receive the message: "The system is running very low on system memory"...followed by a crash some minutes later.
Sometimes I don't receive a message at all...Premiere Pro just instantly stops....sometimes a message.."Premiere Pro has encountered an error."
I previously used Premiere Pro CS2 on this same computer but with a Windows XP install...this worked very well and was stable (SD editing not HD)
I have tried a range of "fixes" but the problem still continues...
it seems to crash no matter what footage I use..or what I am doing.
    Fixes tried:
    Defrag of all HD's
Placing Scratch disks etc. on different drives.
    Turning off virus protection.
    Tweaking of memory settings
Updating to latest graphics driver available.
    Freeing up hard drive space
Running CS4 in Comptibility mode for Win XP Pro sp3
In summary Premiere Pro CS4 is very unstable on my system and I don't know what to do.
    My current system is:
Premiere Pro CS 4 version 4.2.1
    Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
    Version    6.1.7600 Build 7600
    System Model    P5K-E
    Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU    Q6600  @ 2.40GHz, 2394 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM)    4.00 GB
    Total Physical Memory    3.25 GB
    Available Physical Memory    1.79 GB
    Total Virtual Memory    6.50 GB
    Graphics: NVIDIA 8800GT
    Hard Drives: (all 7200 RPM)
    Local Disk C: 1.81 TB (650GB Free)
    Disk E: 698 GB (34.4 GB Free)
    Disk F: 931 GB (41.5 GB free)
    Options I can think of:
1.) Format drive C and install Windows 7 64 Bit..reinstall just Premiere Pro and key drivers.
2.) Upgrade to CS5 and give up on Cs4.
3.) Build another computer and give up on my old system.
4.) Format drive and return to Windows XP Professional
5.) Install Premiere Pro CS2 again and give up on CS4.
    Any other clues?
    What would you do?
Which of these options should I try?
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

  • What would you advise....

Upgrade time is here and I have been lurking on this forum watching for issues etc with the N97
Firstly, would you advise against me getting the phone? If so, what would you advise I replace my N95 8gb with?
Secondly, assuming the geek in me wins the argument and I get the N97, I was thinking the first thing to do would be a hard reset to get rid of the unwanted software and then an upgrade to the V11 firmware. Is this correct?
    Cheers in advance
    PP

There is a lot of confusion about this unwanted software issue on the N97. There is essentially 3 types of storage on the device:
The most obvious is the 32Gig of flash.. this is treated a bit like a USB disk.. Nokia don't put much on there and in some cases installing certain applications to this drive is not possbile. Further to this, when you use the phone in USB storage mode, the "drive" is disconnected from the phone and attached to the PC.. this means the phone has to close any applications that are running on the "e:" and looses its ability to read/write from there. This is a serious problem if you store your message repository on the e: as the phone will revert back to C: and you *may* loose all your messages
Then there is the z:. This is the ROM. and it is just that.. read-only.. If an application is installed there, you won't be able to remove it.. this goes for Quick Office and that boingo thing.. both are terrible apps.. You won't gain anything by removing them BUT there's the problem.. The boingo app is running all the time using RAM in the phone.. Since you can't disable it, it uses RAM rather than storage..
Lastly there's the c:.. this is flash that is always available to the phone. It is where your contacts, message, config, internet/browser cache and most things are stored by default. A bit like c:\windows on a PC.. So, Nokia in their infinite wisdom made it 70meg or so.. Brilliant.. I cannot stress how mind-blowing stupid that decision is and how it continues to ruin everyone's lives.
Many applications are installed on the c: by default. Why? because the 32Gig e: is not always available (see above about USB storage mode). When I transfered all my messages from my previous handset (using the sync thing) I was left with less than 5meg free..
This problem is NEVER going to be fixed.. there simply isn't enough storage on the phone to do this..
This is not the same as the low RAM problem.. the fact that, for example, you receive a text message or email with a hyper-link. you click open.. the web browser opens.. the phone runs out of memory and closes the messages app.. so now when you close the browser, the message app is also closed.. **bleep**?!?!?!?!?!?!
Nokia never fix their products.. ever.. anyone who claims they do is lying! Ok, that's harsh.. but..
In my experience (and I've owned many first gen Nokia products (7110, 7650, 770, 7710, 5800, N97) when Nokia sell a broken product, particularly if it is broken by design, they may release firmware fixes that update SOME stuff.. but they'll never fix most of them.. Instead they'll wait a few months and release a new product that doesn't suffer the same problems..
You'd think the N97 was fixing the problems with the 5800.. but the N97 is a very different beast.. It runs a different not entirely compatible version of S60.. They must know it was flawed from the start, though.. they introduced a Low memory set of features into S60 especially for N97.. Riiiight, Nokia.. you spent time and effort developing a way to handle low memory that actually isn't that good rather than just doubling the RAM in the phone.. how much is a 1Gig dimm these days?
This phone is terribly beta.. Even after v11 has been released it has a truely inconsistent look and feel.. You could get an N97, or you could wait for this fabled n97-mini there's recently been talk of.. or you could opt for a vendor that is trying to compete with Nokia in the smart phone market and so is actually making an effort to produce a phone that doesn't make their quality-assurance department look like kinder-garten nap time..
I've been disappointed with Nokia products before.. but NEVER so much as with the N97.. And in todays market are you going to pick a poor product in the hope that software may fix it later (bearing in mind it took over 3 weeks for Nokia to release the v11 firmware to all the phone versions.. that's right there are 100s of different versions of the N97) or are you going to opt for something the industry already accepts as a stable handset..
It's a shame.. I want to love it.. I've loved Symbian since its EPOC days.. but this phone is terrible in every aspect..
Quick office and Boingo.. that's a bit like bundling AOL and compuserv CD's with windows 95.. It feels that old!
