What .xml or .itl  file do I delete so I can re-load my library?

I opened iTunes today and although all my music was listed under "Music" in the Library, every time I tried to play a song I am told that the original cannot be found.  So what do I need to do to clear out iTunes "memory" so I can re-load the library?

Preferences just tells iTunes where to store music (in the future) it does not add it to your library. The media folder you point to (unecessarily since it is the faefault setting) can be loaded chock-full of media but you have to add it to your library before any of it will show in iTunes.  Deleting those two library files just got rid of all reference to yur having those media files as far as iTunes was concerned, and now you need to have it lern about them again by adding them.

  • What is the maximum file size Flash Catalyst beta 2 can import?

I have designed the webpage in Illustrator cs2 and tried to import to Flash Catalyst beta 2 (FC), however it does not respond to me at all. I think maybe my AI file size is too big. Therefore I reduced my AI file down to 1 page only and now FC has no problem importing my file. I would like to know what is the maximum file size that FC beta 2 can import? thanks

In beta1 I believe the max size was 15megs, I am not 100% for Beta2 but I doubt they would have changed the amount.
I created an online menu for a fake restraunt for fun, the file was quite large with the high-res photos in it. How I got the whole file into Catalyst from Photoshop is I removed the large background images and then imported them individually into the Catalyst project.
    Hope that helped

  • IPhoto: After I've changed the file name/format in Finder iPhoto can't load/relink to the referenced file.

After I've changed the file name/format in Finder iPhoto can't load/relink to the referenced file anymore. For some reasons I don't like to reimport the file.

Hmm the advice has been not to use referenced libraries - you ignored and did it anyway and you find the advise not helpful
Furthermore the advice is that if you choose to use a referenced library that you assure that the path never changes - you also choose to ignore that advice and do it anyway - and you blame the peopson trying to help you
once again - you have one choice - change the file names back and put the files back in the exact same place - and again you are totally ignoring the advice and instead name calling and attacking the person giving you advice
Maybe life would be easier if you followed advice rather than ignoring it and then complaining that things no longer work
change the name back and you will be fine until the next problem you hit that is caused by choosing a referenced library
    Have a nice day

  • Damaged XML and ITL files

Okay I can't recreate my iTunes library, what do I need to delete from iTunes on my computer, and whats the best way to re-create my iTunes music library, I have 10,000 plus songs, plus purchased music, and pod casts, and TV shows... Please help me out

That's what's stumping me, why does it want to try to import the xml file to begin with? (Don't know what iLife is but doubt that I am running it.) It doesn't do it EVERY time I start iTunes but it's been more than 50% of the time! Doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason as to when it will do it and when it won't. Upon iTunes startup it will start "importing the xml file" and then after a while it will decide that the itl file is damaged and will rename the itl file as such and then create a new one that's then missing all play counts, ratings, playlists etc. Since this isn't what I want I close iTunes, delete this new itl file and xml file and copy back my backup itl file (renaming it back to itunes library.itl). I am then back in business. It's just annoying that I have to remember to backup the itl file every time I close iTunes now. But I'll do it rather than lose my ratings, play counts etc.
At this point I don't think it's the iPod but something about this version of iTunes and the xml/itl files that's not working right together. Beats me as to what it is. I see there's a new iTunes version up now but think I'll wait a few days at least before installing it
    Thanks for the help.

  • What is the maximum file size for CSV that Excel can open ? (Excel 2013 64bit)

    Hello,
Before anyone jumps in, I am not talking about the maximum worksheet size of 1048576 rows by 16384 columns.
    I have  client whom has a 1.5 Gb CSV file, 1.9, 2.6, 5, 17 and 89 Gb file (Huge).
If I open the 1.5 Gb, the file opens (After waiting 5 minutes) and then a warning pops up that only the first 1048576 rows have loaded. That is fair enough.
If I try and open any of the others, Excel comes up to a blank worksheet. No errors. It just seems to ignore the file I tried to open. This happens from within Excel (File - open) or from double clicking the file in explorer.
Excel goes to this blank page almost imeadiatly. It does not even try to open the file.
If I try with Ms Access, I get a size warning and it refuses to load the file. (At least I get a warning)
I would have expected Excel to load at least the first 1048576 rows  (If that is what there are in the file), and give an error.
The computer is more than capable (Xeon processors, 16 Gb ram, SSD hard disks top of the line HP Z820 power workstation).
With the 1.5 Gb file loaded to 1048576 rows, it uses 15% ram/pagefile. CPU's hit about 5%.
I have confirmed it is Win 7 64bit, Excel 64bit. I am fairly confident we are over the file size but without an error message, I don't know what to tell my client whom is looking to me for answers.
I have already discussed that the 89gb file in Excel is unreasonable and they are looking at a stat's package but I need an answer on these smaller files.
    Anyone got any ides ?

    Hi,
The 1,048,576 rows & 16,384 columns is the
workbook size limitation in Excel 2013. Thus, I recommend we try the Mr. Bernie's suggestions to import the large CSV file.
    1. Use VBA to read the file line by line and split/examine the import file in sections. If you have further question about the VBA, please post your question to the MSDN forum for Excel
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=exceldev&filter=alltypes&sort=lastpostdesc
    2. Use Excel 2013 add-ins. Power Pivot and Power Query. For more detailed information, please see the below articles:

  • HT4101 What to do if you accidentally pressed delete all? Can you retrieve those photos ?

Can you still retrieve the photos ?

If you asking me, I would suggest to additonally use a second storage service which also allows you to store your pictures over the 30 days period. I personally use Dropbox with automatic upload for that (https://db.tt/cMEgDUFZ), but there are also other storage services like Flickr for example.

  • One of my apps is "waiting" for an update.  Its been "waiting" for 4 days.   It wont delete (so I can re load it).   Sadly its not in i tunes as I put it on after the last sync and it wont for some reason sync either.   Any ideas?

One of my apps (actually on my daughters i phone 5) has been "waiting for 4 days to update.   Rebooting doesnt cure it nor does trying to delete it - it wont delete.   I have looked at her i tunes account but she hasnt sync that for ages and the actual app isnt in i tunes but just on the phone.  For some reason the syncing isnt working either in realtion to this app. There is adeqaute memory - good strong wifi signal.   Any ideas??

Download the app on iTunes under her account (you've already paid - you won't have to again), then sync the app across to the phone that way and it should clear it up.
It's possible the app is too large to do over the air and it started on wifi but wasn't able to continue and got corrupted.

  • ITunes automatically imports music after re-boots (damaged .itl file)

Every time I start ITunes after my computer has been re-booted, ITunes starts importing my music library and says I have a damaged Music Library file (itl). If I allow ITunes to import my music files then it works fine (all playlists and ratings intact) even if I exit & re-enter the Itunes Application. However, as soon as I reboot the system I get the same damaged file dialog box. Also, I've tried waiting after I have booted the system for a long time to make sure it isn't conflicting with startup processes.
I have a lot of songs and it takes ITunes a long time to import each time, and it is really frustrating. A temporary work-around is that I make a backup copy of the "itl" and "xml" files each time after I exit Itunes when I have made changes. Then after a reboot when I start Itunes, I stop it from importing the library, finding artwork, gapless scan, etc... I copy the previously saved "itl" & "xml" files into the ITunes folder and the ITunes program will then start up correctly with all my music files, ratings & playlists.
    _*A. COMMENTS*_
    1. Since the "itl" file I copy into itunes folder (as per my work-around)is an exact copy of the "itl" file that was originally in the ITunes folder after a reboot, I don't think the ITunes file is actually damaged, since ITunes will boot from this file after Itunes is started a 2nd time. This also shows me that it is not a path issue.
    _*B. SETUP*_
    1. Dell 3.4Ghz Pentium 4
    2. MS Windows XP Home Edition (service pack 3)
    3. Recently upgraded to ITunes 9.0.3.15 (did not resolve problem)
    4. McAfee Security Center virus/firewall software
    5. Ad-Aware spyware checker(resident)
    6. Spy-bot Search and Destroy spyware checker(resident)
    5. My Music files are located in C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\My Documents\My Music\ (itunes folder is also in same folder)
    6. My Itunes Library .itl file is 2,842 KB
    7. My Itunes Music Library .xml file is 16,580 KB
_*C. WHAT I HAVE TRIED SO FAR*_
    1. I have re-installed ITunes
    2. I ran scan disk (fixed errors & checked physical disk). It did say it repaired something with an "XML" extension, but I didn't write it down because I thought it fixed the issue, but I don't think it was the itunes xml file
    3. I cleaned a bunch of junk files (internet cache, etc) and defragged
    4. I completely un-installed ITunes and ran a registry cleaner to remove all references to Itunes, Then I installed ITunes. ITunes imported my library and lost all my ratings & playlists however it found all of my artwork (not just automatically created from internet) I re-used an old .itl file for ratings/playlists. However I did try with the newly imported "itl" file and the same problem was persistent
    5. I tried restoring my computer to month ago when everything was working correctly
    6. I tried for hours looking through multiple forums and the ones that I found that have the same problem (only after reboots) were never resolved. Most of the others just tell people how to get their library back
    7. I tried to call Apple Itunes tech support on the phone and was told that Apple does not provide Itunes phone support for PC's. I did pay good money for 30Gb & 16Gb Iphones, so I am giving Apple Money. I would own a Mac however my profession uses software not supported by Apple.
    _*D. QUESTIONS*_
    1. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I'm going to try to figure out how to start in some sort of safe mode and log the processes to see if there are any conflicts, but I'm running out of options.
    2. I did copy rather large 1200x12000 artwork from the internet into some of the CD's because I was printing them, however I later removed the artwork and replaced it with 300x300. I noticed the Album artwork Cache & Download folders seems rather large and convoluted. I was thinking about possibly deleting all artwork from my library and deleting these folders to see if there is something in there.
Please Help, I've spent far too many hours trying to resolve this issue. I just don't understand that after uninstalling, and cleaning registry that re-installing didn't fix this issue.

    Followup:
The link you posted wasn't really any help, but I believe I have finally resolved the issue (after 2 consecutive reboots without problems -- knocks on wood). I wish I could single out exactly what resolved the issue, but I went crazy and did a lot of things last night/this morning (and didn't have the patience to reboot after each single change).
Here's a list of a few things I remember doing
    1. Installed updated hardware drivers using Uniblue driver update software (a couple were bundles that affected quite a few things). I booted up this morning only to get a repeated "REFMONINITIALIZATIONFAILED" dialog with the blue screen of death. I wasn't worried as I did a complete backup of all my personal files last night, anticipating a full rebuild today. So the next time I rebooted I used the "last known good configuration".
    2. I don't have any indexing programs (that I'm aware of), but I clicked the library file, xml files and all other files in the itunes library root directory and unchecked the "For fast searching, allow Indexing Service to index this file" box after right clicking and selecting "properties" and then "advanced"
    3. I rolled back ALL Uniblue SpeedUPMYPC2009 system tweaks (except internet) that were automatically done when I ran the program on 1/10/10.
I have a strong inclination that one (or more) of the Uniblue system tweaks did something that prevented my library file from being accessed the first time after after a boot that I started ITunes. I apparently hadn't accessed ITunes for a couple weeks after I ran the Uniblue program, so it didn't register that it could have caused the issue. At some point in the future I'll try to pin down which tweak caused the problem, but for now I've wasted far too much dealing with this and don't care if my computer runs a few milliseconds slower.
    Thank you for responding

  • Says my library.itl file is locked after upgrade?

hi there.. i am hoping someone can help me, i had to format comp due to virus, so i reinstalled windows (xp home) and installed itunes from the original ipod disk, all went well, imported all my music back into the library and so far so good.. i then upgrade itunes by following prompts set in the program... installs fine, so no prob with mcafee firewall or virus protection, but when i try to open itunes after install i get a message saying:
the itunes music library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk or you do not have write permission for this file.
please help me!! i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes no prob, in itunes 4. something it all works fine, but as soon as i upgrade i am locked out.
thanks in advance!! i would be much appreciative of any tips to help figure this prob out...
    pentium4   Windows XP

Your libary.itl probably got locked by McAfee and never got saved properly during the virus incident/debacle.
    - Stop itunes
    - Delete C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
    -Start iTunes
You are totally going to lose all your ratings and other great stuff from your previous iTunes, but I don't know what else would fix it.
When you restart iTunes, it will rebuild your ITL file, since you deleted it.
What are the iTunes library files?

  • How do i find/create a missing itunes library .itl file?

I'm trying to transfer my itunes account from my old laptop to my new one and I have done this succesfully twice over the last couple of years but for some reason it's not working. I copy the whole itunes file to the new laptop but when I open itunes it says it can't find the ,itl file and it's right, I can't see it in there either. The only thing thats worked for me is using one the previous itunes library files but that is from two months ago and doesn't seem to be transfering my album artwork.
Has anyone else had this same problem? Can I created an .itl file?
    Any help would be fantastic!

That's exactly what I thought but it's not there and I have transfered the entire itunes folder, including atrwork etc, over to the new laptop.
I can find a previous itunes Library but that is from november. Is there a way to create the .itl file for my itunes library on my old laptop?
    Thanks

  • Is there a way to compare two .itl files?

I recently uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes on my Vista machine. I then re-imported all by music, which resulted in a new .itl file. I then realized I could use my old .itl file and preserve some data, such as date added, play count, etc. I notice, however, that the new .itl file says that there are seven more items in the library than were in the old one (out of over 11,000 items). I am curious as to what these 11 items are, since I didn't make any additions to the library between the date of the old .itl file and the new one (they both have the same date stamp, in fact, though the new one is several hours newer than the old one). Is there any way to compare these .itl files and see what the additional items are? Thanks.
    Howard

You have to do it on a field-by-field basis in a formula using the Previous() function.  However, you cannot "nest" calls to either Previous() or Next() - in other words, you can't do something like Previous(Previous(<some field>))  You'll also need to look at OnFirstRecord and/or PreviousIsNull() to work with data on the first row of the report.

  • Hard drive failed - have music files but not library.itl file

So here's the situation. The hard drive on my husband's laptop recently failed. It is now fixed, but his data is lost. Luckily, we had moved his music files to an external drive. It appears that we only moved the music files and not the library.itl file. We have a backup from November of the library.itl file.
    1. His ipod is fine. He wants to be able to pull the playlist info from his ipod to restore the info on the library.itl file. Is that possible?
    2. If that is not possible, what are the ramifications of restoring the library.itl file from November? Will he "lose" the music that was added since then?

    1. Not with itunes, sadly. It will try to wipe the ipod since it is a 'new 'library.
    2. Yes, he'll lose everything added since November.

  • What is the max file size that a Adapter Engine [J2SE] can handle ?

We are having a scenario where a 4 GB compressed file needs to be sent across without mapping, I'm trying to explore the possible options to tackle this scenario.
Some of the options, we are considering :
    - Sending a file from one Adapter Engine [J2SE] to another Adapter Engine [J2SE] bypassing PI. Adapter Logs will be monitored. What is the maximum file size that can be then handled assuming a standard installation ?
    - What is the max file size that Adapter Engine [J2SE] can send through PI without mapping?
Any help with the above options or with any other possible solutions to handle extremely large file transfers will be much appreciated.

    Hi,
j2se is not a good option here
if you have 4gb then you need a copy solution
    a) build an proxy that will just copy the file from sender dest to receiver
    b) build an adapter that will do the same as proxy)
this way processing of this message will be controlled with SAP PI/XI
it will be as quick as copy & paste of the 4gb file
I did the a) for one of the flow for 300 mb and it works perfectly

  • Is there a way to compare the contents of a library by comparing itl files or some other files?

Is there a way to compare the contents of a library by comparing itl files or some other files?
I need to compare the contents of my current library to one that existed 2 months ago but ALL I have is the itl file from 2 months ago.  Can this be done?

You are correct, many people have noticed over the years that Sound Check does not work as advertised.
A more effective approach is to treat the files with a 3rd party volume normalization program. Although I have not personally used it, many users on this Forum have reported good results from an inexpensive program called iVolume.
