"What You Hear" Not work

Alright so I know how "What You Hear" is supposed to work, but sometimes it doesn't.. Sometimes rebooting the PC helps, sometimes it doesn't it's very odd.
I have what you hear selected, and I have Music playing through WAVE, I'm saying stuff on the Micrphone and It's not recording anything. [Yes I have Both the WAVE / MICROPHONE enable to play on the playback so that I can hear it myself for the WHAT YOU HEAR to record them... Nothing is muted]
When I switch recording setting to WAV or just MICROPHONE, the input is taken just fine, but when I switch to "WHAT YOU HEAR" nothing is heard. Any Ideas?
I tried re-installing my Drivers before, it did a temp fix really reinstall>

anyone? any thoughts? please?

  • Audio Recording "What you Hear" not available!

I have recently assembled my system with MSI-X58-PRO-E. And installed Windows 7.
When I tried to record audio that is playing on my system, the "What you Hear" option could not be selected in Audacity. Or any other recording software.
Is this because of Realtek drivers? Could this be solved by installing new drivers, or I have to buy a discrete sound card?!?!!!
    Any help is appreciated...

thanks for suggestion, will try it and post thje results soon.

  • Windows7 64 bit and Audigy 2 choppy sound while recording what you hear

Driver version I have currently installed 6.0..37 I tried to record off youtube in "What You hear" while using Wavelab5 mode and the sound is very choppy, I tried every setting I could think of but am unable to record, I managed to get one recording but tnext one with same settings is coming up rearry choppy. Another problem when browsing the support I click on "If your product is not listed above, please click here" I choose Audigy-->Audigy2 but I get nothing in the next window, I tried on FF and IE8 but nothing populates in the next field, found another way to get to the drivers but when I choose Windows 7 64 bit and choose drivers it takes me to the main support page here <a rel="nofollow" href="http://support.creative.com/welcome.aspx"]http://support.creative.com/welcome.aspx[/url]
    I am on:
    Intel Q2600
    Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6
    2 x 2GB DDR2 - 800 CL4 Ballistix
    Windows7 Ultimate 64 bit
    Kaspersky Internet Security 200.
All current Windows7 updates are installed.
Oh yeah I can hear music (mp3, avi, youtube or any online source) no problem in either winamp, WMP2 or in Wavelab5 while monitoring. It's only the recording that is giving me trouble.
    Cheers

Right where do I start...... I got the latest drivers installed, "What You Hear" was working for about oh four recordings then stopped and back to choppy recorded sound, I went through alll options and nada. So I downloaded Audacity to see if this was a problem with Wavelab and re-tried. Well same thing choppy sound and even rebooting did not help. So I will be taking EVERYTHING!!!!!! CREATIVE off my machine, if these idiots cannot be bothered to release drivers that work then I'm going elsewhere. My music creating will have to be put on hold, my 22m will still have to sit in it's box.
Creative you are all a bunch of ?$"?%$%" idiots period. You have ALWAYS (till now in my case anyway) had good drivers. Even though Windows 7 has been in RC for ages you (absolutely missed that boat, hell you didn't even get up to try to catch it) cannot be bothered to write drivers that work and your idiotic half cooked attempts at customer service to give your bread and butter (that's right your customers who keep you in business) solid drivers are an absolute joke. YOU CAN KISS MY SHINY METAL HINEY!!!!! (thanks Bender lol). I am going to my onboard drivers. Thanks Creative (the name "creative" is kind of contradiction in itself, you should look up the meaning of the word lol). Oh and I will be advising EVERYONe who thinks of upgrading to Windows7 to avoid Creative hardware.

  • Found the Secret of Recording with What You Hear.

This website tells you how to setup Vista so that What You Hear will work with your SoundBlaster Card. http://www.downloadsquad.com/2007/0/...ding-in-vista/. Do you see the date. Jan 5, 2007 how did this not get out before now. It works great.

Only problem is that I CAN'T get the 'Wave Out Mix' to show up in the Sound Recording Tab Window.

  • "What you hear" recording volume is too

I have Soundblaster Audigy 2 on Vista 64-bit. I recently downloaded new drivers (6.0..242). This is after converting from XP and old drivers.
My "What you hear" settings work and will record using MediaSource Player, but the volume on the recorded file is about 25% the volume of the original file. This is verified upon replaying both the original and newly-recorded files side-by-side or right after one another.
When opening the Sound Panel>Recording Devices>"What You Hear">Levels, the levels are to the max and the balance is to the max for both right and left channels.
Although probably irrelevent, under Sound Panel>Playback Devices>Speakers>Levels, play control levels are max, and all other sublevels are?maxed, balanced maxed, and unmuted. (Sorry for my lack of technical description.)
I play the file on Windows Media Player and volume is maxed on the player as well. The interesting thing is when you look in the Sound Panel, the speakers show maxed volume and the "What you hear" only shows, again 25% of the volume.
Previously, I had no problems with XP and old drivers. I also was once able to revert to old drivers (which I can no longer do) and the problem went away. The difference was that the old drivers had a "Wav" level setting (under Sound Panel>Playback Devices>Speakers>Levels) where you could increase the level. These drivers don't appear to provide this setting.
Is there some setting I'm missing? Any help would be great. Thanks!

Where abouts is this located? I can only see "Microphone, Line in, CD Player, Video, AUX, Stereo Mix, Mono Mix"
    Which card/software you got there?
If you use "Creative Surround Mixer" --> you can set the .REC source by pressing the icon located above recording level slider.
If you can't see the "W-U-H" option listed there, then check if it's already selected (ear icon).

I do not have 'what you hear' as an option any longer with the new Titanium; I had it with my older X-Fi Fatalty, but not this new card.
I would imagine it has something to do with Microsoft trying to limit recording of DRM-protected content, and Creative bowing to their wishes.

  • How does "what you hear" work with my surround 5.1 externa

    Hi,
    I am using a usb soundblaster surround 5. external soundcard and recording lp's through the line-in socket of it. I am confused about the setting "what you hear" as opposed the "line-in" setting;
I thought that the purpose of "what you hear" is that you are recording what you hear, i.e. with the altered sound of the graphic eq, eax, cmss 3d etc, but this seems not to be the case as the sound is the same on line-in as it is on what you hear. I want to be able to alter the sound quality/tone and in particular, the width of the stereo, i.e. make it wider, and can't seem to with this system. Shouldn't I be able to change the tonal quality and it be reflected in the recording if I am using "what you hear" as the input ?
Any help on this would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
P.S. Does anyone know of a software that can slightly alter the stereo i.e. make it wider, given the fact that I would be recording in 24 bit 96k of the soundblaster ? I have audio cleaning lab, and although it works, I think I need a better software for my needs, as the sound quality is very important to me.
    Thanks very much in advance.

I just don't understand the bolted part after reading your post .
By keeping the recording untouched gives you the best possible quality. If you then want to "play" with effects as like spreading the stereo image, then do it on-the-fly rather than 'hard-code' into recorded audio data.
How to-do this while playing ... just use some audio/media software which supports addons (effects).
I could recommend you some players like
Winamp + VSTHost plug-in, MediaMonkey + VSTHost plug-in, Foobar + VSThost plug-in, Steinberg MYMP3PRO, WMP + some plug-ins (though, I don't know if there are this type as you would like of), etc. (there are couple more).
VST/DX EFFECTS plug-ins can be found from KVR - http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php
24-bit/96kHz would give you the best quality but, as you have an external Soundblaster there ... IMO, just use nati've samplerate then (AFAIK, it's 6-bit/48kHz) and if you don't want to use 48kHz wav/mp3 format then just convert Wave files 48->44. using Voxengo r8brain Free and then transfer to mp3 or wma if needed.
For quality sake I would recommend you to get least E-MU 0202 USB.

  • Does "What You Hear" work in Windows Vis

Does record?"What You Hear" work in Windows Vista?

It works (in 32 bit anyway), but not that well by my experience. I only have the windows sound recorder to use, and the sound it captures distorts slightly. I ususally use the Creative WaveStudio for recording, so I'm not doing much recording while I wait for a Vista version to be released.

  • "what you hear" playing all the t

I have a onboard soundblaster 24-bit li've. I am not sure exactly what the problem is, but whenever I use a mic I can always hear the background system sounds of my computer on top of my voice (ex. system ding, and music I am playing). I found it hard to believe that my mic was picking it up. So I turned down my speakers and played a sound file on my computer while recording it with "sound recorder" (the basic one that comes with windows). and sure enough even though I turned my speakers off it still played through.
Looking for a solution as I use voice communication software almost daily to coordinate with project leaders. It is very annoying not being able to hear anything without it being echoed back to them.
I hope this post makes sence to you as I am not all that versed in english =(.
Thanks in advance for your help
Edit: just realized I should probably add the fact that I do have "mic" checked under recording devices and not "what you hear"Message Edited by Spyder226 on 08-30-2006 07:24 PM

In order to hear people talking I will need my wave output unmuted...
so I dont think this will work.
As for that yes, It does not record anything (sndrec32) when I play music or something but then again I cannot hear anyone so it somewhat defeats the purpose. Let me take another crack at explaining this
    Example:
) I will connect to ventrilo while playing music on my headphones.
    2) I will then try and talk to my team leader by pressing PTT (push to talk hotkey). When I press this key, he will hear all of my music as well as my voice all at once. So it makes it very hard to understand me.
    3) Once I turn off the music he can hear me ok again, but every little system sound that occurs he can hear at double the volume.
Also just to clarify, I only have the microphone input selected in recording and I have all the playback selections muted except for "wave" and "playback"Message Edited by Spyder226 on 08-30-200608:22 PM

  • Xfi - xtreme/vista - no "what you hear" - please h

I have puchased new Dell pc, with Vista ultimate, and soundblaster xfi xtreme card in. Looking at the forums i am not the only person with the problem of locating "what you hear", i have gone through process of right clicking and showing disbled functions but alas it is not there. I have uninstalled drivers and reinstalled and it makes no difference at all. My soundcard was put in by Dell and i am little reluctant having had this pc only a week to take out the soundcard to check for product number, therefore although i get 90 day help from Creative i cant use this service. I spend a lot of time playing music triv on paltalk and without "what you hear" i cant do this - i have gone through all forums to try find solution but none found so far, but there must be one.Would i be better off getting rid of Vista and putting XP on, will this work ??Many thanks

Many thanks for response, it is X-FI XTREME MUSIC PCI SOUNDCARD, it is Vista Ultimate I am running. I have tried absolutely everything have reinstalled sound card/drivers but still the same, and there is no "what you hear" available. Even paltalk have tried to help me and they say it should be there but alas no.
If you have link to drivers please let me know, any help at the moment would be appreciated. ThanksCharlie
The drivers are on the Creative website. The only way I know to restore the "What You Hear" is to uninstall the driver and all the software, install an older version of the driver that had the "What you Hear" component (I don?t know where you?re going to get an older version of the driver), then update the driver to the latest one without uninstalling the old one unless prompted to during the update. After that you can install the software and whatever else you need.
This was how I got the option back after the driver update from the Microsoft Windows site installed the driver which removed the ?What You Hear? form my system.

  • Lost audio capture 'what you hear' from conexant

I have an HP Pavilion DV2278ea laptop running Vista 32bit and have all OS updates apart from those announced in the last few weeks. I recently upgraded the software for the Conexant High Definition onboard sound card to the latest August 08 version 4.36.7.60 C. All seemed fine until I came to do an audio capture from an internet stream using Roxio. The only capture device listed was the microphone - there used to be one that said Conexant Audio 'What you Hear' to capture anything heard through the speakers. On checking Sounds in Control Panel the only recording device is the microphone. Sound works okay from both the internal and external speakers. I've tried rolling back the drivers but its still the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Ok this has driven me mad for the last few days but I found the solution:
Windows Vista Recording Input Source selections for recording streaming audio, sound from media players or just about anything you can hear coming through your speakers are Hidden from view and Disabled by Default. (I'm sorry - but why!!?!   )
If your sound card/system supports recording streaming audio Input Source selections such as: Stereo Mix, What U Hear, Wave Out Mix, Wave or a similar selection, here's what you need to do to Enable it for recording:
Right-Click on your Speaker Icon in your System Tray, (near your clock), select "Recording Devices".
In the Sound window that opens, near the top, select the "Recording" TAB.
Move your cursor down to where devices are shown.
Right-Click in the blank white area and select "Show Disabled Devices".
If supported, new selections will appear such as: Stereo Mix, What U Hear, etc. Right-Click on "Stereo Mix", "What U Hear" or similar and select "Enable".
Right-Click on the same item again and select "Set as Default Device". Click OK.
Now in the recorder's Options in the "Input Source" box, you should have the "Stereo Mix", "What U Hear" or similar source available to select for recording streaming, etc.
(You can also Enable other hidden selections like Microphone, Line In, etc. if they are not already shown).

  • What ever happened to the "What you Hear" device for XFi Exteme Audio for Vi

I thought for sure the mixer device would be added back in as part of these new driver, but apparently the minds of creative feel it is ok to take options away from a purchased product? Does anyone know of a good work around to allow for recording "What You Hear" in Vista?

wclampet,I have same problem with my X-fi extremeGamer card in vista. It means i can't use any other sound recording software to record anything off the net since there is no recording device such as 'what u hear' for it to use. Can't get support from Creative and they won't even answer the simple question of whether it's supposed to be there or not because mine is an oem dell system. For the some reason i cant?install the latest drivers from the Creative site either ( because i have an oem version ?) - though i?dont think it would solve the issue anyway really. [color="#0033ff">Anyway just to let u know there is a workround - u can record basically 'what u hear'?using?the Creative Mediasource?5 Player using the Digital -in (the only record device i have) and choosing Wav,multi-channels as the recording format. You will end up with a wav. file (big) which you can then convert using the?Creative Mediasource 5 Converter (after a lot of trial and error in choosing the right destination?format - WMA?Pro -28kbps 44kHz?5. Channel for me -
I thought it was not possible for a long while). You end up with a Windows Media Audio WMA file. If you want to convert to Mp3 is seems you have to buy another program off them. ?I am a bit annoyed at not being able to use any other?streaming audio recorder program with this soundcard? that could record direct to MP3. Would appreciate it if anyone (including anyone at Creative - I am in Singapore U know!) could tell me if?there should be a 'what u hear' recording device or not - and if not why not ???

  • Error when recording with "What you hear" opt

    Hi there fellow Creative Fans,
I see that a similar thread already exists for this topic, however it does not seem to be resolved yet...and, my situation is a bit different. I run a pretty standard setup (Intel P4 .6 Ghz, 52 MB RAM, Windows XP Pro SP2) and of course a Sound Blaster Audigy 2. I have been running this setup for approxiamately 5 months now with no changes whatsoever (hardware/software). I have been making extensi've use of the "What you hear" functionality in the Creative Media Go Player. Two nights ago, I wanted to record sound from a DVD and I got this message "The recording process was aborted".
As stated before, I have not added or removed hardware, installed service packs or any new software for that matter. I have reinstalled all the drivers and software, checked and re-checked settings. I have downloaded the latest drivers from Creative's site...all in vain.
Can anyone please help. If acker25 is reading this: "Have you resolved your problem yet?"
    Regards
    Steyn

Problem resolved. Follow Creatives FAQ advice on uninstalling the Soundblaster device drivers...it's on this web site. Follow all the steps, but include deleting "Creative" out of the registry. This worked for me. I can not guarantee this on any other users machines. I'm assuming that the drivers get's damaged.
    Good luck.

  • 6Controling recording through "What you hear",

Dear community, Breif question, Is there any way to control what i record through "what you hear"?
Im using "Creative MediaSource 5" to record. I'm recording a radio show through Internet Explorer 8, and its two hours long. I've turned off windows sounds, but if i play a game, or video it will record that sound aswell through "what you hear", obviously which i do not want. I feel restricted on my computer while recording and don't think i should be with a product from top developer like creative. I found small fix by using windows 7's sound mixer and turning down volume on all other open apps but it would be ncie to implenet this into a seperate "what you hear" mixer recording. If you know of any third party apps i would be much obliged if not don't you think this would be something to implement in the future?
Thanks for taking the time to read my issue and hope you can solve my answer and look forward to your comments.
    Regards
