Whatever Happened to TechNote fb1634cb?

I'm fairly certain I need this Technote fb1634cb which explains:
"A damaged Windows system registry or incorrect permissions in the registry may prevent Flash Player from installing or registering correctly."
and
"SUPPORT ALERT Do you have problems installing or running Adobe® Flash® Player for Internet Explorer? Most of these problems can be attributed to Windows Registry permission issues. See our technical documents on Flash Player and Windows Registry permission errors."
Both of these notes link to Technote fb1634cb, but the links always result in "Error 404:  Site not available."
It's been like this for over a month.  Surely I'm not the only one who needs this information.

Any document including a Word or another word processing application document?
The Mail.app shows all image/picture and smaller PDF documents (1-2 pages) inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default which cannot be turned off. This should not occur when attaching a Word or another word processing application document.
You can control-click on a viewed in place attachment and select View as Icon but regardless, Mail.app attachments are sent as true attachments to the message and depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, such an attachment may appear inline or viewed in place when the message is opened by the recipient (as with the Mail.app) or as an attached file only which must be opened separately for which we have no control over.
You can also use a 3rd party plugin for the Mail.app called Mail Attachments Iconizer.

Whatever happened to the File: Place: In InDesign Script?! I want it back!

I think Configurator will happen for InDesign CC, just not yet.
For now, you could write a startup script.
I only suggest these as alternatives. It would have been better if Adobe had made it an option. Very heavy handed and another thing that is going to P loyal users off.

Whatever happened to the songs of the week. It dissapeared. Can someone help or point me where it was moved to? Thank you.

It looks like it's no longer being done (whether permanent or only temporary I don't know), there have been a number of other posts about it no longer showing in various countries stores

Whatever happened to file icons as attachments? Now, whenever I attach a document to my email, the entire document appears in the body of the message. Can I turn this off and just have the message show the file icon?

  • Whatever happened to Kepler?

Years ago I purchased Kepler MM and quickly became very fond of it. I loved its combination of modern and humanist characteristics -- the high contrast with the soft, lachrymal and wedge-shaped serifs on characters such as "c," "a," and "r." But technology moved on and Adobe stopped supporting Multiple Master fonts. Compatibility problems with OS X, etc., meant that the font had to be put away for several years.
Recently I had a chance to redesign a magazine and chose Kepler as the main text and display font. Since Leopard now supports MM fonts, I installed it and used it successfully for the first issue.
For various reasons, now I would like to convert the MM fonts to the OpenType version of Kepler.
But Kepler Std is a MUCH different typface than Kepler MM. Gone are the old serifs, replaced with more traditional modern ball-shaped serifs on the "r" and "a." The lowercase "a" now even sports a full tail, instead of the truncated one found on Kepler MM.
I'm sure I'll continue with the conversion, and will grow to appreciate the new character forms. But I will miss the old Kepler. It was a unique and beautiful typeface.
What happened? Can anyone explain why these two versions of the font would be so different?
    -- SB

    John, Thomas --
Thank you for your comments and for the link. I might suggest editing that page to specifically mention the changes to Kepler -- as far as I can tell from the sample sheets, they are significant. At large sizes they may change the entire look and feel of the typeface -- to the extant that, had I been aware of them, I may not have chosen Kepler for this particular project.
Live and learn. Using Multiple Master fonts is not a good practice these days; there are many good reasons to convert to OpenType. I'm sure the revised typeface will work just as well (if not better) once I get used to working with it.

  • Whatever happened to call frame action

Flash contintues to get worse with every improvement to the
point where it's almost as useless as the online manual whiich
takes half an hour to open and finds trillions of results for every
keyword and none for what I want to know. I spent ages learning
Flash a couple of versions ago and its so different its like a new
    program. I really hate it.
So what the bleep happened to the bleeping "call frame"
action. And what do I do now, except throw out this bleeping
    program.

    dkd;alkje;oihp[oihjl,
    > Flash contintues to get worse with every

    > as useless as ...
So use an older version, right? Or go outside and play
    badminton or
something. ;) Take a jog, maybe; clear your head.
    > I spent ages learning Flash a couple of versions
    > ago and its so different its like a new program.
    > I really hate it.
Honestly, I'm sorry to hear you're so upset by it. In truth,
    the
program has become a lot more powerful. It does so much
    *more* than it ever
used to, which means it allows *me* to do so much more than I
    ever used to.
I can't think of another program that does cartoons, web
    stuff, CD-ROM
stuff, titling and overlays for video, rich Internet
    applications, games,
and the list goes on. Thanks to Flash, I was able to quit my
    day job,
believe it or not, and make even more money working from
    home.
    > So what the bleep happened to the bleeping "call
    > frame" action. And what do I do now, except
    > throw out this bleeping program.
Well, you mentioned the documentation that "takes half an
    hour to open,"
but all I had to do was hit the F1 key. The Help files opened
    in less than
a second. I searched the word "call" and found the "call
    function" entry
right away. According to the documentation, this action was
    deprecated in
favor of the function statement since Flash 5. You can still
    use it, of
course, and the details are right there at your finger tips.

  • Whatever Happened to Blinkbits

I had the RSS feeds that populated my website

powered via blinkbits using their RSS to javascript tool, but

  • Whatever happened to oracle.gss.util?

In the 9.2.0.x thin JDBC drivers there was a package oracle.gss.util.
In the ojdbc14.jar of 10.2.0.1 I cannot find the package. What happened to it?
    Sascha

oracle.gss.util is now part of a separate product, Oracle Globalization Support. Since it is required by JDBC to support some character sets, there has been some confusion as to whether it should be part of the JDBC download or not. Since it is a separate product you should get it by downloading that product, but since historically everything you need comes with the JDBC download, it should perhaps be included there. I don't recall what the Product Management team finally decided on this. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Whatever happened to my Apple support account?

    Hi everyone!
I am a person who enjoys visiting the Apple support page and try to help people who post their iPod problems on here. Every time someone said anything in the same post I had responded before I get an e-mail letting me know a new post was added to the thread, this no longer happens; I have not received any e-mails from any new posts in about 3 days. I have wondered what happened. Is there a post moderator or something that could explain to me what settings I have to modify so I would get those e-mails again?? They were so helpful.
    Thanks!!!

If you click on "preferences" under your name, then "subscriptions", that's where you choose the email settings.
You should note however that there is currently a problem with email subscriptions (and has been for a few days). Apple are aware of the problem, but there is no indication of when it will be resolved.

  • Return to Space: Whatever happened to Gnuffy Linux?

Long ago there seems to have been some awesome Arch derivative called Gnuffy Linux. It had a bash-based package manager named Spaceman, which is pacman-compatible. Here's a quote that summarizes the thing:
Gnuffy can use any of Arch Linux’s repos in addition to its own, and can use the standard PKGBUILDs in addition to its own improved version of PKGBUILD, which includes some Gentoo-style USE flags and other enhancements. Packages on Gnuffy’s repos are GPG signed with the key of the packager, and Spaceman checks signatures.
Spaceman is a monster of a bash script, with over 9000 lines of code. Literally. There are just way too many features for me to talk about, so read up on Spaceman's full specification list if you're interested. The source code for Spaceman is here. If you're going to try it out, don't forget to get the compatibility patch.
The big feature in Spaceman is the USEflags, from Gentoo. "Basically, a useflag controls an optional build feature a source-code supports. If the useflag is set, the support will be included, if it is not set, the support will be left out." Useflags may be controversial, but there's no doubt that it can be quite useful in certain situations.
There are Gnuffy Repositories, which are GPG-signed user repos that anyone can make. Spaceman could install a binary from such a repo, or compile from the source file: ".src.pkg.tar.xz". This works similarly to srcman.
Also, it had something called Comamain, a program included with Spaceman which would automatically compile and update new packages, maintaining your packages for you.
It had a bash script that converted an Arch Linux install into a Gnuffy one I'd have more to say about this if I could find it... Does anyone have a copy? People do talk about it here: http://bbs.archbang.org/viewtopic.php?id=517
What happened to it? It seems to have dropped off the face of the earth sometime after 4/04/2011. That would be a shame, it seemed like an awesome project.
Does anyone have a link to it, or a copy of it's SVN? I'd like to check it out, maybe resurrect it if it has good features.

I had a look at this a while back and it had not had any substantial SVN commits for a _long_ time before that.

  • Whatever happened to Alt+F6 (to switch between modeless dialogs)?

In all versions of Windows until Vista (I think that was when it went
missing) you used to be able to press the standard defined accelerator
Alt+F6 to switch between an application's main window and any modeless
    dialogs it had.
It's still documented as such here:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb246447(v=vs.85).aspx
    "ALT+F6
Switch to next window within application (between modeless secondary
    windows and their primary window).
For example, in Notepad, when you have its Find dialog open, under
XP/Windows 2003 (and all earlier Windows versions) you can press
Alt+F6 to switch between the main window and the Find dialog.
This keystroke was particularly useful when an application's modeless
dialog was positioned off the screen and couldn't be clicked on it
with the mouse. You could press Alt+F6 to activate the modeless
dialog, then Alt+Space to popup the modeless dialog's menu, then
invoke the move operation - and get the modeless dialog back on
    screen.
On all versions of Windows subsequent to XP/W2K3, as far as I know
there's no way of activating a modeless dialog with the keyboard.
Does anyone know if there's a substitute keystroke, and if not, out of
interest why we lost that keystroke?
    Dave

    Are you using KMS?
I'm not sure but you could try launching your WM from .xinitrc:
    'exec ck-launch-session WM'
Instead of WM you can try 'startxfce4' 'xfce' or wait for somebody smarter than me :-)

  • Whatever happened to previews.db in Lightroom 5 Catalog Previews.lrdata?

In earlier versions of Lightroom, there used to be a file called previews.db inside a directory called "Lightroom 5 Catalog Previews.lrdata" , but in Lightroom 5.7, I see that "Lightroom 5 Catalog Previews.lrdata" has become a file (no longer a directory) and there is no previews.db. I had a plugin that needed to read previews.db in order to generate thumbnails. Now I don't know what to do.  (Rob Cole, you wrote the function that did this, and it worked great while there was a previews.db -- perhaps you know what is up.)  If anyone can point me to where a file similar to previews.db can be found (it has to be parseable by sqlite), that would be very helpful. Thanks!

I don't use a Mac, so cannot answer definitively, but perhaps this folder was compressed either via selecting some option on the folder, itself, or by running some maintenance function that automatically compressed folders that were deemed as wasting space.  I would think you'd want this to be an compressed folder so as not to use up an inorfinate amount of time to work with the previews contained inside.  Can you make an uncompressed copy and then rename the compressed original as something else and rename the copy to the correct folder name?
Here is some info on compressed folders on Macs I found by Googling:
OS X Mavericks: Compress and uncompress files and folders
