Hi,
Apple mice have always been awful; I only ever liked the +ADB Mouse II+.
I'm very happy with my Microsoft Intellimouse Optical six years on. The five buttons work really well with Dashboard, Exposé (and Spaces) and worked just as well back in OS9. The cable is also a decent length. I've also got a wireless version (1000) in grey/white with just three buttons, although the transceiver is quite chunky.
Here's a five button Bluetooth version (link) that I've got my eye on at the moment.

BT SD card is not on the market for years now and this device is not supported anymore so I think you will not be able to find driver to get it work with Win7.

P45 Platinum IEEE1394 drivers for Win7 x64

I just reinstalled my PC with P45 Platinum mainboard and everything installs fine with the drivers from the MSI website, however there is no driver for IEEE1394 controller there.
I installed Win7 x64 now, before I installed WinXP and at the time of that installation it installed fine.
I am not using the IEEE1394 controller at the moment but there is a exclamation point in the device manager I want to get rid of.
Can anyone point me to the driver, thnx.

In windows 7 there's no Firewire driver needed it should automatically install it as already integrated. Is it already installed and exclamation mark on it like it isn't working correctly or unknown device?

I'm having some problems with no sound in the Windows Partition of my Computer and I'm talking to Windows people about it. They're asking me for the type of soundcard I have and I don't know that. What section of System Profiler tells me what the sound card is?

The onboard sound uses the "Realtek High Definition Audio" drivers. You can either grab them off the DVDs that your Mac Pro came with or download them from Realtek's site:

What are good settings for a QT movie on .Mac?

I post movies edited in FCPro 3 on a .Mac web site for the in-laws. They are on a DSL line. When I export the finished video from FCP to a QT movie, I face a vast array of choices that I don't understand. I can choose from many video codecs, and I have to choose a key frame rate, and a size (I chose 320x240). The movie I did today came in at 27Mb, and it's only a minute in length!
Can someone recommend some settings that will not create huge files?

So long as the recipients have QT7 try the H.264 codec. I have a couple of movies which I've exported at 384x288 (half size PAL) at 256kbps video data rate, 128kbps audio, full frame rate (25fps) with key frames every 50 frames and, while they're not absolutely perfect, they are very acceptible. One is 5.5 minutes and is 15Mb long, the other is 1 minute long and is 2.8Mb. They'll play over a 512kbps connection so long as the .Mac servers are behaving themselves (they're rather slow at times). H.264 /does/ take a long time to encode the video though - my five minute movie took about 35 minutes to encode on a dual 2.3GHz G5 directly from Final Cut Express.
You could also try the MP4 and Sorenson 3 codecs but you're not going to get anything like the same quality at the same data rates (at least not with what comes as standard with QT).
It all seems to be something of a black art doesn't it? I started doing this only a few weeks ago. At first I fiddled around more or less at random before approaching it more sensibly using short clips and changing one thing at a time. Eventually, I arrived at settings which satisfied me.

What is good practice for playing multiple video's in a single swf?

I have build in the past a video wall with video's inside. After building this i came across some problems.
If you have too many video players loading at once it takes a lot of processing and the tweens in the
page while loading the video's where not moving fluidly, but more in a stuttering way.
After lot's of test i found a good working solution. I imported the flv video's into flash en exported them on the timeline
as a embedded swf. Then i externally loaded these swf files and that performed much better.
Is it even good practice to load multiple video instances at once? I used this time the LoaderMax of greensock but the video's
only play after it's completely loaded. I would like to find a way to progressive play all video's at.
Does someone has experience with this?

As it happens, if you ever watch 'The Photoshop Guys' on Kelby TV, they nearly all use MBPs exclusively. I believe one of them also uses a desktop — maybe Cory Barker because he does all the 3D stuff. I'd worry that a laptop that does not specify video RAM, is using onboard video, and not a dedicated video card. The GPU is an important component regards Photoshop performance, so make sure you get it right.

I'm want to build a Logic Pro 8 studio for mixing television audio, film scores, and record original music. Can anyone recomend a great sound card to work with my Mac and Logic studio? I've seached online and havent been able to find much info.

That's right. The new Intel Macs don't have PCI slots. So if you buy a PCI card, and you upgrade your Mac, then you render your PCI card useless, and nearly valueless by the time you upgrade.
Also, it seems many people are complaining about how Logic 8 runs on the G5s. This is no surprise. The upgrade is designed to take advantage of the Intel Mac, and this, in turn, causes you to upgrade your hardware.
Since I've been having my high-frequency problem with the MOTU card, I used an M-Audio Profire Lightbridge. Now, I don't do any recording here in my Logic room, so I can't attest to that. But as a playback machine, it was sketchy. Finicky, even. And the converters are horrific. For myself, that didn't matter so much, because I have 24 channels of external converters. But I did check out the converters on the Lightbridge, and they were probably--I'm not exagerating here--the worst converters I've ever heard.
PCI cards are the only way to go if you are running a pro facility..
The problem is, there are only a few cards on the market for PCIe slots.
The MOTU-424, which so-far doesn't seem to be compatible with the Intel Mac. I'm sure they'll figure it out, the question is when?
The RME HDSPe, which was recalled for what I suspect is the same problem as the MOTU card had with the Intel Mac.
The RME MADI card, which is an expensive solution, with high output abilities. More thn you need for your situation, methinks.
And the Apogee card, which goes with the Apogee interface (Symphony?). Another expensive solution, but certainly easy. And if you have no converters, that might be the best option. However, I've never listened to these particular converters, so I'm just guessing. Frankly, I've never thought Apogee converters have been anything beyond adequate, but I'm sure they'll be better than any of the other solutions I've laid out above.

PrE-10 Will not start in Win7(x64)

I sincerely hope this is not redundant, but I have spent days on this forum looking for answers, but with no luck. I have seen many similar questions, but none of the 'fixes' proposed are relevant, or do not work for me.
History:
I have been running PrE-10 since its release, on Win-7(32-bit). I recently had a system crash after installing Windows-8 Beta and had to wipe my hard drive and start from scratch. This time I loaded Win-7 (x64). All my original apps I had stored on an external drive. Some re-installed, some not. I had to re-download PSE-10, and PrE-10 as 64-bit apps.
PSE-10 and the associated Organizer, work fine as before. PrE-10 however does not start. I get the splash screen, with the options of NEW, OPEN and Organizer. Of these, only Organizer opens. The other two options either bring up a Windows Error box 'Pre-10 has failed to start', or it just sits and does nothing.
It is not a system limitation as I have far more than the requirements needed to run it and as I said, it worked fine in the 32-bit version, and nothing else has changed (that I have input), so I am baffled.
As I said, I have done many of the proposed fixes I have seen on the forum, if they are pertinent to my system, and even some that were not. I have now completed the reinstallation of most of my applications, and so far only PrE is causing a problem, but it is very important to me as I am working on a project that requires it.
I have done a Belarc report, but I do not see a link to upload it. I see links for images, videos, tables and weblinks, but nothing for files (pdf). I will attempt to load it as an image and see if this works. I do not want to post it as text or HTML as it is 7 pages long! (Nope, it does not insert). Perhaps someone can tell me how to upload the file.

No, it is a desktop. However it is an HP 'hybrid' all-in-one, and uses a lot of laptop hardware and software to keep the low profile case.

Another interesting story, that! Nvidia/GeForce does an auto detect and correctly identifies the graphics card, and sends me to a link to upgrade the driver. The driver page says it is for Vista x64 and Win7 x64 (even its long name has 'win7-x64' in it). I download and attempt an install, and it comes back with "you are running Windows 7 64-bit. This driver is for Vista only. Installer closing." I went back and tried 4 other Win-7 x64 drivers, all reported the same thing, even though they state on the site they are for Win7 x-64. I then went to the Device Manager and tried to update the driver, but it reported using 'the most current driver available'. So I uninstalled the current Nvidia driver, which put me into VGA mode. I then went to Windows Update and did a search for updates. It found a missing Nvidia driver and called it 'Nvidia Driver for Win7 x64'. I downoaded and installed it and my system returned to normal 1440 x 900 display. I checked the driver info and it is the same driver as the original, including the release date, so apparently the original driver was in fact x64 compatible, and there does not appear to be an updated driver for it.

It is not a laptop, but as it uses many laptop softwares and hardware, I will check these and see if they help. I will post the results.
