Whats a "management server" ?

i just installed personal Oracle 8i on notebook with win2000 (not part of network). Install went smooth, but i thought logging to "Enterprise Manager" and that asks 3 things: "Administrator, Password, Management Server". Now what is my management server ? - got no clue.
I tried entering my computer name, then the global database name, sid, but nothing helped ? In the Administrator and password fields, i'm entering SYS and in password (change_on_install), i've even tried the SYSTEM and its password (whatever that was). But I think, my main problem is: what could be the name of MANAGEMENT SERVER (i know in sql server, if its stand-alone, we just use a "." if we are not part of network), any clues ?

Dear Mohammad,
Oracle Enterprise Manager architecture consists of a three-tier framework. Unlike a two-tier client-server structure, where a client tier responsible for the presentation of information accesses data from a server, Oracle Enterprise Manager utilizes a three-tier architecture which includes:
Console and management applications - first tier
Oracle Management Server(s) - second tier
Managed nodes containing databases and other services - third tier
If you are installing all the components on a single machine (your notebook), then the management server will be running on the same computer as the client and the database. To login to the Management Server for the first time (after a successful installation), enter the following credentials:
Administrator: sysman
Password: oem_temp
Management Server: <Your computer name>
But before you login, open the Services Applet in your Windows Control Panel and start the Management Server.
Ciao!

  • What's the name of my Oracle Management Server?

I have just completed a new installation of Oracle 9i DB Ver 9.01 along with the related Oracle Management Server. I can log into the Oracle Enterprise Manager OK, but I can't log in to the Oracle Management Server.
The problem is that the login requires me to provide the name of the Management Server, and I don't recall ever being asked to assign a name to the Management Server during the installation process.
The names relevant to my database installation are:
    Host server name: Tower100
    Database name: TOWER
    Service_Name: Tower.LinFamily
    Repository DB Name: TowerRep
    Repository SID: TowerRep
I have tried all these names, and they don't work. I have tried logging using the user names 'system' and 'RepAdmin' (the user name I assigned for the repository), and they don't work.
I have looked through the installation documentation and I can't find anything on this subject.
I would appreciate any help on this problem. Thanks.
    Tony Lin

    David,
    Thanks for your response.
Yes, I am running Win2000 Server. I checked Component Services and verified that both Management Server and Agent are processes set in automatic mode and started.
David, my problem is that logging in to Management Server requires me to enter the Name of the Management Server. What is the "Name" of my Management Server? I don't understand what this means as I do not recall ever being asked to name my Management Server when I installed it.
The names relevant to my database installation are:
    Host server name: Tower100
    Database name: TOWER
    Service_Name: Tower.LinFamily
    Repository DB Name: TowerRep
    Repository SID: TowerRep
Are any of these the "Name" of my Management Server?
I have tried all these names, and they don't seem to work.
Also, when you say the default account name, do you mean the account "SERVICE" with the default password?
    Tony Lin
    Tony,
If you installed on Windows then you will want to make sure that the Management Server and Intelligent Agent services are started in the Services Control Panel first.
Otherwise if you are using a UNIX server, you may need to start the mangement server manually. Here is a script I use to automate the startup process on Solaris:
    http://www.dotcomsolutionsinc.net/products/installgen/sol_901_32bit_files/installgen_sol901_12_.html
From the Enterprise Manager Console login window you can click on the icon to the right of the Management Server field, click on the Add button, then enter the hostname of the management server to add it.
If the Management server is running, then you should be able to log in using the default account the first time, then create your administrator accounts.

  • What is oracle management server 9i

when i install the oracle database 9i, does management server is installed by default or not? what are the steps required to install management server?
Please anybody put some light on this issue.

9i Oracle Management Server is not configured by default. It is an option for using 9i EM

  • WHAT IS ORACLE MANAGEMENT SERVER (OMS)

    Hi,
    every one,
what is OMS (ORACLE MANAGEMENT SERVER ) ,
    Why is it necessary
    plz reply me
    regards rehan

It functions as a middle tier beteen 'Oracle Intelligent Agents' and management consoles, where DBAs view and control their OEM domain.

  • What is the OMS(Oracle Management Server) ?

    Hi All,
Anyone can explain me what is the OMS (Oracle Management Server)
in Oracle Enterprise Manager(OEM),may be it is the server where OEM resided on when install program I'm not sure?
    Thank you,
    Mcka

Enterprise manager has two ways of operating: direct attach and three-tier
In Oracle9i, the direct attach is 'stand alone console'. In 10g it is 'db console'
In Oracle9i, the three tier is using an OMS. In 10g, it is called the grid control.
Basically the OMS or Grid Control has the following configuration:
    - On each database server, there is an Enterprise Manager Agent. It 'manages' all database instances on that server;
    - there is a central application server (Oracle Management Server/OMS) that communicates with all agents. It tells the agent to performan actions (such as collecting operating stats) and it gets the results from those actions;
    - there is a central OMS repository (schema in a database) used the the OMS, that is used to store configuration and information retrieved by the agents;
    - the OMS responds to user (administrator) requests from the [9i] java console or the [10g] browser. The requested information may be retrieved from the repository or retrieved in real time directly from the instance via the agent.
The OMS can be installed on any machine. The OMS repository can be installed on any machine with a database instance.
Often the database, the OMS and the OMS repository are both installed on a single 'DBA-only machine'. (This makes sense as the information collected could have a SarbOx impact.)

  • What causes a managed server to start or not to start

    Hi,
I'm investigating a problem we have with an environment where a managed server was not running after the machine was restarted. Now I am testing it on a standalone testing environment and I can boot the machine and everything is starting automatically. Is a node manager configured automatically to start a managed server by default when installing weblogic? Until now we mostly started the managed server through the console. We use WLS 8.1.

  • What's the function of the null transactional manager server?

how to use the null transactional manager server?

If you need to call a service while in a transaction, but that service
does not use a resource manager (database), then it should be in a group
    with the null TMS.
If it is a leaf service, you could call it with TPNOTRAN, but if it has
to call other services that are part of the transaction, then it too
must be part of the transaction.
The first service called by a client that initiated a transaction will
become the coordinator, so it needs to have a TMS even if it is not
    using a database.

  • What effect would re-installing the management server (with DBs intact) have on my configuration?

    Hi,
If I have to re-install SCOM (the management server components) on the same Windows Server (i.e. uninstall/re-install) and re-connect to the same SQL Server and DBs, would I lose anything?
My understanding is that nothing is lost in terms of management packs, overrides, views, etc, as everything is stored in the DBs. However, I am not sure about things such as the configuration to connect to Azure Ops Insights.
    Does anyone know for sure?

    Hi
Uninstalling a Management Server and reinstalling ist no big deal and you should not experince any issue, but there are few things. I would assign the agents before uninstalling to the persistent Management Server, make sure all Management packs are redundant,
Keep track of the ressource pool Membership, scripts running on the Management Server etc. before removing the server

No this is not a clustered environment.
yeah but under domains there are two domains we have created.
    i.e. domains/ domain1 domain2
both are having soa servers as managed server.
in one domain soa is up but in domain2 it is not getting up causing above errors while starting.
FYI : It is causing problem now only.. before this , soa server on both the server have been up & running simultaneously.

  • Nodemanager does not restart managed server after Linux OS reboot

Running Linux 2.6.18, Sun JDK 1.6.0_14, and WebLogic 10.3, we have a correctly functioning nodemanager watching a single managed server. If I kill -9 the managed server, the nodemanager fires up a new one immediately. If, however, we reboot the box, the nodemanager will start cleanly and will not start the managed server. It appears to believe the node should remain down and reports its status as UNKNOWN.
I've seen where this is a known problem on Windows boxes, easily gotten around by supplying the -Xrs parameter to the startup parms for the managed server. (Section 5 of the general nodemanager config doc.) I don't see, however, where there's an equally clean solution for Linux.
    Things I've tried:
+ When I set the server to DEBUG, it shows zero sign of receiving a shutdown signal. It's dumping loads of cluster messages, etc, into the log and then suddenly the log just ends so it's dying via kill -9. If the nodemanager is still running at that time, it might try to restart the managed server and log it somewhere as permanently failed.
+ The nodemanager only logs to INFO level, and logs no evidence of deciding to leave the node down. (DEBUG is an invalid LogLevel, so that's all I've got.)
+ A restart signal sent from our AdminServer (on another Linux box) successfully starts the managed node through the nodemanager. Nothing unusual occurs or is logged.
    Things I'm curious about:
+ Is there some way to see in what state the nodemanager believes the managed server to be?
+ Is there some value in some doc somewhere that might say the server should not be restarted?
+ Is there not a log of NodeManager client actions? I don't see anything in domain.log or AdminServer.log except when the NM is down.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

can you set NativeVersionEnabled to true. We have faced this in windows which was fixed by changing this property. Some notes from that issue:
Faced this interesting issue in Windows 2008 environment. Managed Servers were started by node manager and it was expected that on a system restart after a crash, the node manager will restore the state of the managed servers to the state it was before the crash. Node Manger was configured to run as a windows service. Hence it started after the server restart. But the individual managed servers were not getting started. Interestingly, for the managed servers started by the node manager there were no <Managed_Server_Name>.lck file in the <Server>/data/NodeManger folder.
To fix this always set the following properties in the nodemanager.properties on the node maager home directory.
CrashRecoveryEnabled=true /* This by default is set to false. This needs to be turned for auto restart after crash to work */
NativeVersionEnabled=true /* This is by default set to true and it should be set as such. If you turn this off on platforms for which weblogic provide native JNI libraries ( e.g. as in Windows 2008) then this wont create the .lck file and hence node manager wont restart the managed server after the crash.
Note: As per official documentation .lck files are required for weblogic node managers to do auto restart after system crash
    From Official documentation:
After the system is restarted, Node Manager checks each managed domain specified in the nodemanager.domains file to determine if there are any server instances that were not cleanly shutdown. This is determined by the presence of any lock files which are created by Node Manager when a WebLogic Server process is created. This lock file contains the process identifier for WebLogic Server startup script. If the lock file exists, but the process ID is not running, Node Manager will attempt to automatically restart the server.
If the process is running, Node Manager performs an additional check to access the management servlet running in the process to verify that the process corresponding to the process ID is a WebLogic Server instance.

  • Cannot deploy SOA composite to a managed server

My problem: cannot deploy SOA composite to a managed server.
The following is what I did:
    1. I created a domain "devDomain". admin server is created automatically for me.
*2. I created a manged server (soa_server1) on my domain after.*
    2. started the admin server
    3. started soa_server1
    4. see both servers in WLS control, both server state=running
    5. see both server in EM console, both server status are up
    6. in JDev(11.1.1.5.0), created an application server connection, and tested the connection successfully
    7. when I tried to deploy my composite from JDev, I selected the application server connection, on step "SOA servers", it only lists AdminServer.
    8. Then I tried to deploy the composite from EM by right-click soa_server1, but "SOA deployment" is not in the list.
My guess: there should be some libraries or other resources applied to soa_server1 before it could accept soa deployment. What are these libraries/resources?
I tried to target all 10 libraries under the path "oracle.soa." to soa_server1, and checked the config.xml and found the file was updated correcly, reboot my pc, restarted the servers, but still face the same problem.
    My environment is weblogic 10.3.5.
    Basically, my question is:
after a domain is created and admin server is there, if I want to add a managed server which will host soa composites, what should I do to configure the managed server?

    Hello,
I have a problem when trying to connect managed server to cluster's

I get the same result when testing the connection setup with
java weblogic.Admin -url 192.168.14.15:7001 -username system -password xyz
    CONNECT 1
    Background for this problem:
I'm trying to evaluate WLS6.0 clustering for my RMI services. I have two
machines setup with my test domain (DEdomain) and one cluster (DECluster)
    within it.
In administration server (machine A) I defined two servers to be run in
    machine A and machine B:
DEserver2 in machine B (to be started as managed server) and DEserver3
    in machine A
I'm going to bind a same service into these above servers of my DECluster.
    In machine B's startManagedWeblogic.sh I have:
    java -ms64m -mx64m -classpath
    $CLASSPATH -Dweblogic.Domain=DEdomain -Dweblogic.Name=$SERVER_NAME -Dweblogi
    c.management.server=$ADMIN_URL -Djava.security.policy==$WL_HOME/lib/weblogic
    .policy -Dweblogic.management.username=system -Dweblogic.management.password
    =$WLS_PW weblogic.Server
In machine A I have administration server DEserver1 listening port 7001.
And for the domain and cluster building I followed all relevant e-docs
manual pages. It's still somewhat blurry what kind of preparations I have to
make in managed server side to join the domain; for example do I have to
have identical domain directory structure within machine B and do I have to
configure something with admin console or is everything handled by
connecting to the administation server and reading the domain's config.xml
    from machine A.
I'm sure I have missed some fundamental idea for building clustered services
and would greatly appreciate if someone had any good tips or ideas.

    Hi Kumar,
and thank you. That fixed my problem

It appears you had set the administration port & listen port on the admin
    server.
Logging onto admin server via admin port is broken currently. I wouldsuggest
you to set only listen port
    and see how that goes.

    Background for this problem:
I'm trying to evaluate WLS6.0 clustering for my RMI services. I have two
machines setup with my test domain (DEdomain) and one cluster(DECluster)
    within it.
In administration server (machine A) I defined two servers to be run in
    machine A and machine B:
DEserver2 in machine B (to be started as managed server) andDEserver3
    in machine A
I'm going to bind a same service into these above servers of myDECluster.

    In machine B's startManagedWeblogic.sh I have:

  • Error 401--Unauthorized when deployed on WL Managed server (10.3.3)

    Hi,
I created & started a WL-Managed server on my window desktop machine. I deployed to this Managed server, an application which is running without problem on Admin Server. (The managed server is created in the same Domain as that of Admin Server)
However, when I log on to the application on Managed server & enter the UID & PW I get the Error 401--Unauthorized page. The same security works perfectly well for Admin Server.
Any clues what could be going wrong.
    Thanks in advance.
