  • What does Transparent Networking Substrate (TNS) mean ?

    Hello,
what does Transparent Networking Substrate (TNS) mean?
I searched several Oracle documentations but couldn't find a plain explanation!
    Thanks
    Axel

In addition to the glossary definition...
For what most people care about, TNS is a layer that transparently allows you to use a variety of different methods to resolve database aliases. You can configure a tnsnames.ora file, you can set up Oracle Names, an LDAP directory, or you can use host names.

  • What does "untrusted" network connection mean?

If your airport comes on with full service but has an "untrusted" network connection what does that mean?

I believe the "untrusted" network your are referring to means that this type of network is open or unsecured. In essence, anything you send/receive over an untrusted network could be see by anyone.
For WiFi, we use encryption to "trust" or secure a wireless network connection. The most common encryption used today are WEP, WPA & WPA2. (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107921)

  • Mobile Network Search Problems/Problemen Mobiel Netwerk

    Good afternoon everybody,
My telephone is automatic searching for network every 5minutes. I am missing alot of calls by this.
does some one know what this is and a selution ?
    Goedemiddag iedereen,
mijn telefoon zoekt iederen 5minuten automatische opnieuw naar mijn HI netwerk. hierdoor mis ik bizar veel telefoontjes en kan ik iedereen gaan terug bellen.
weet iemand wat dit probleem is en de oplossing?

Thanks, but it is now three months without a solution, and I have stopped paying Vodafone. They have graciously offered a rebate of one month´s internet charges, rather less than the time it took them to even start offering solutions and not allowing anything forthe time and expense of me taking the computer into their shops at their request, only for them not to bother talking to me. or the other hours spent hanging on while they waited to put the phone down on me (about 20 times). They also are not sending bills. Apparently they are sending messages to my vodafone e mail address, but since that stopped working months ago, that isn´t getting us anywhere either.
I hope things go ok with you. As for me I am exploring the possibility of unlocking the modem and going to Orange or Movistar

  • What does system network password mean.

I have just updated to Mountain Lion.  I had to change my Apple I.D. password.  Most things seem to have gone well.
I now have an intercept.  It says, Enter your system Network Password.  What is that?
It is not my Apple password,  It is not my computer password.  What is it?  Where do I find it?

Sounds like it is asking for a password to join a wifi network.

  • What does safari networking do?

Excuse me, but I'm new to the world of Mac and just wanted an explanation. I'm trying to monitor internet usage via an activity monitor, as I seem to be going through a lot of GB and one thing that pops us as consuming a lot is Safari Networking. Is that just simply internet browsing, and therefore will always be there running along?

I've been watching the same activity and am puzzled by what is going on. Sometimes, when I am not browsing, Safari receives an immense amount of data at a very high rate.  For example, since I last booted early this morning, Safari received 262.5MB and sent 10.8MB; over the same period Mail received 2.6MB and sent 282KB. (and since I wrote the last sentence Safari received another 18.2MB). What is going on? I'm a little more than curious and ready to switch to Chrome or Firefox.

  • What Does Mail "Continue Search on Server..." Mean?

When searching in iPhone Mail, you have the option of continuing the search on the iMap server. It doesn't seem to search the whole server, otherwise it would really find my stuff which I know is there and can be found in Mac Mail.
So if iPhone Mail is through searching on the iPhone, and it doesn't REALLY search the server, what is it searching?

Ask your email provider for the correct settings to use to set it up on your phone.

We appreciate you reaching out to us, ammjr71. We can understand how this message would be confusing. Let's get you the app you desire.  Have you been able to buy the app yet?  Have you already purchased $25 to be billed to the account? • What does it mean when you are signed in as a guest on a wi fi network?

My sister is in the hospital and would like to use her ipad.  The only network that lets her sign in is guest network and it doesnt let her get much of anything.  What does guest network mean?

A "guest" network is typically for visitors to use free of charge, as opposed to a "private" network that employees use by entering a special password.
The administrator that set up the guest network controls what guests can access, so it would not be possible to say what you can and cannot do on the guest network.
It might allow an Internet connection, or only email for example. Ask for a guide to the network from a supervisor on the floor for more details.
If there are too many users trying to use the network at the same time, connections may be very slow, or may not work.

  • What does the Cell Network Search do on the iPhone 4s?

What may happen if I turn Cell Network Search off on my iPhone 4s. It's under location services scroll all the way down to system services. Will I not be able make or receive calls?

Yes, go ahead and turn it off.  It SENDS location based information to Apple for their use (marketing, trouble shooting, who knows all or what).  Basically it records the tower ID of the towers within range of your phone as you move around throught the day and sends that back to Apple.  Since the location of the towers is known, they then get information about where people are most using iPhones during the day, what the loads in different areas are, and other stuff that lets them learn about how and where iPhones are being used.
It has NOTHING to do with how your iPhone actually functions normally, so you can disable all of the services listed there ifyou wish.
Compass calibration MAY be useful in some cases - I know when I was trying Waze, it often could not get a reliable position fix until I re-enabled compass calibration.  I don't know why that was, as all I know about compass calibration is it supposedly allows for a more accurate correction between geographic and magnetic north.  But at least with Waze, it clearly assisted Waze in getting and holding a location fix when driving, in areas and at times when without it on, Waze was unable to track my movement, or sometimes even get a fix at all.
Setting time zone - IF you were traveling across time zones, and were out of range of a cell tower (so no cell signal to correct your clock) or your clock failed to change correctly once you had cell signal again, then turning this on may help correct the clock.  Note that from posts here, usually you just need turn it on, let the clock correct itself, and then can turn it off and the clock will be fine (it just helps when you've shifted multiple time zones with no cell signal for the phone to correct itself by during the journey).
The other four in that list, I have never enabled as you just don't need them for anything, and they do use power every time they use location services and everytime they send data.

  • Issue with mobile network signal ("Searching")

I recently purchased 2 iPad from Singapore and upon retuning to Malaysia, i applied for 2 mobile broadband package from the same mobile provider.
Issue i am facing is, on one of the ipad, the mobile network signal bar displays "Searching" almost all the time; only a few times it displays strong signal with 3G icon then it drops to "Searching" again. I tried to swap the micro sim around between both ipad but no such issue on the 2nd ipad which is consistenly strong signal.
I even restored the ipad (factory shipped 3.2.2) but no success.
    What should i do?

After further test, I noticed the unit can't find any mobile provider under Settings > Carrier when signal bar displays "Searching".
Enabling airplane mode does not help either; only workaround is to disable Cellular Data under Settings > Cellular Data then Enable it again.

  • How does turning off "Cell Network Search" affect "Find My iPhone"?

I have turned Cell Network Search off in an effort to reduce battery drain under iOS 7.1.  Does this in any way affect Find My iPhone?
I have Location Services on for Find My iPhone.  I turn Background App Refresh off when I'm at home and on when I'm out; I believe this doesn't affect Find My iPhone.
I'd be interested in Apple's official description (which I wasn't able to locate) as well as any personal experiences.
    Thanks.

You can find out the answer yourself.
Log into icloud.com and use the find my iphone feature and see what it says.
BTW there is no Apple in this forum, just apple device users like you and I.

  • I baught a new iphone (no contracts) and i found a t mobile sim card inside of it ! What does it mean ?

I Found a t mobile sim card in my new iphone 6 but i baught it without a contract what does it mean ?

You don't have a lot of choices. There is no Apple presence in Lebanon, so if you want an iPhone then any phone you get will be gray market. The T-Mobile appears to be unlocked, so it will work on GSM networks. Among gray market phones the US Verizon phone would be a better choice, as it will support LTE (4G) in the Middle East. The other choice is to get a phone in a neighboring country where Apple does have a presence (KSA, UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Jordan). The disadvantage of that, however, is that the phone will not have FaceTime, as those governments have banned it. So in summary, the phone you bought is probably the best choice.
There are likely independent shops that will repair the phone if it needs repair. Did the shop where you bought it offer a warranty?
EDIT: Added Jordan to the list of neighboring countries
