Whats it worth ?

My 13 inch Black Macbook purchased in June 2006, just went kabutz, I think it's the logic board, took to apple store, nothing from good battery or from outlet, took the hard drive out and it works fine. opinion seems to be logic board, a small amount of coffee was spelt on upper left keys. I purchased a new white 13 inch. I'm keeping the hard drive from black MacBook, should I sell parts from Black MacBook or is it worth more intact ?
Thank You ! anyone interested ?

Hi Rich,
here is link of third party service center and you can compare price if you want to make the black macbook get fixed:
http://www.macservice.com/macbook.html
But if you said that if you took the hard drive out the n it work just fine, then maybe the hard drive inly that need to be replaced. Or if the Hard drive controller from the macbook logic board went bad, you can still boot up from external HD.
Also check on online auction and see how much each of macbook part will be valued and you can go from there.
Good Luck.

  • What's worth keeping from old Laptops?

I have an original Titanium PowerBook (1x) and a first release Aluminum PowerBook (2x). 1x doesn't boot, 2x's screen hinge and cable are broken.
I have just removed the HDs from both in order to fully erase them to destroy any data on them. Are there any parts worth salvaging, such as the optical drives or RAM or screens?
I also have a PowerBook 540 B&W. Is it worth anything, either whole or for parts?

Put them on eBay and sell as is. Remember one man's junk is another man's treasure.

We are doing the best we can to deliver Froyo/2.2 for Fascinate owners.

I'm a little frustrated but I am also still willing to give them a chance. It is surprising that the Froyo/Bing/CDMA/Google or whatever is causing the delay is still an issue, and I do think there is an issue..either a coding problem, conflict with Bing, the CDMA radio or even a small skirmish between Verizon and Google.
Unlike some others here I have a Fascinate that is working great so my reason for wanting Froyo tends to be somewhat different.
I am the network admin at the corporate office I work at. I am also the Alpha Geek for my friends, family, etc... I have learned through hard experience what not having timely updates can do. Android now has 1/3 of the smartphone market, it will become a target for exploits and remember everyone - Linux isn't exploit-proof it is just harder to exploit and it hasn't really been on the bad guy's radar. The people who compete at Pwn2Own and the other contests will tell you nothing is unexploitable. As our financial worlds become more intertwined with our phones the criminals' desire to access smartphones will become overwhelming.
The entire cell phone industry needs to understand and get into the mindset that smartphones need to be updated regularly, just like desktops and laptops or in the near future using a unpatched cellphone will be like going online with a Win98 computer - when you go offline you probably won't be the one in control of your device.

Seriously Why did Verizon have to put bing on this phone I bet that is the only problem with this phone being updated. Their was no point in putting something as worthless as bing on this google operated phone
And may I ask what is wrong with Bing? Answer that one  GPS 10? You can still use Google on phone
I for one could care less about Bing being on the phone. I just don't use it. I think the point being made here is that Google may be pi**ed off about it, after all all, Android phones are supposed to be Google phones. Maybe that is what is holding up the update(?) Hard to believe that is the reason, at least I hope it's not the reason. I hope the reason is they are trying to release a stable update, not a bug ridden one.
Ironically then one could say the IE problem on computers back in the day when people complained about it can be applied to Android devices.  Android is supposed to be open source and that's one of the problems with being open source.  Fragmentation at an accelerated level.
Not all Android phones are supposed to be Google phones.  IF Google wanted them to be all Google phones they could have licensed them different, but allow the source code.  They chose to go "Apache Software License" which is part open and part closed.  Welcome to Marketing which is slowly backfiring.  Give it a few and then everyone will slowly migrate to Meego(a lot of developers already switched that used to work on Android).
That's what they are probably doing.  The one major bug people are having and affects ALL samsung CDMA devices is that it looks for GSM signal and that eats battery.  It still plagues the Epic 4G, and Verizon may be delaying to increase battery life and to get rid of it.  Who's to say...  Rather have them do it right the first time around...

  • Is there an app to scan gift cards to see what their worth

    thats pretty much it

I doubt it. I don't know of any store that will give out technical information about how their cards are coded (none in their right minds, anyway), since that would make the card too easy to alter or counterfeit, and without that coding information, no developer could create an app that could read the balance. There are apps that help you track the balance on your cards, but it's a manual entry; the apps don't scan the card.

  • Is the G3 worth giving up my unlimited data plan?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus with unlimited data (grandfathered in when I replaced my original Motorola Droid).  I've been waiting for the "perfect" phone to replace it, and it looks like the G3 might be it.   The Nexus was a great phone in its time, but I've always disliked the really rotten battery life and the difficulty it has finding a data signal and also staying connected to wifi (both, it turns out, common issues with this phone, especially the data signal issue).
So, those of you who have this phone, what do you think?   Do you love the phone?   Worth sacrificing my unlimited data to buy on the $99 special and give up my unlimited data (I've never even used 1 GB of data in a month, but I hate giving it up on principle) or wait until I can afford the full off-contract price (which will be a while) and do one of the "hacks" to keep the unlimited?

In my opinion, I'm sure others would disagree, if you have never even used 1 GB in a month, you are crazy to not give up the unlimited data in exchange for a ~$500 discount on your phone.
For what its worth, if you purchase the phone at full retail, you DO NOT need to do a "hack" to keep unlimited. Verizon allows you to keep unlimited if you pay full retail for your phone. The only exception would be if you purchase it on the Edge plan, then you would not keep unlimited.

  • More than 25k songs - What Now?

I have been collecting music for a couple of decades now. In fact my CD collection is very large and have been putting CDs into cases on the shelf for years. It took me six months transferring all my CDs to a (192k) mp3 iTunes library. iTunes Match has brought new excitement for my music library as I receive upgraded fidelity (256k) and the ability to access it anywhere on my iPhone or iPad. But, there is a bump in the road for me.
I started a brand new iTunes library and have all my music in one folder on an external 1TB hard drive. I have been adding my music one folder at a time and all has been working perfectly. You could say I am starting from scratch but also have a back up of the main folder in case all goes south on me. The issue I see coming up is the fact I think I will run out of space in the cloud. Big question is what will really happen when I hit 25k limit? What will I have to do in order to get access to all my music?
Apple.. Is there any way you can allow users to purchase another 25k for $25? Having iTunes Match is an amazing opportunity to have an entire music collection of backed-up music in a cloud so one can access it from anywhere. The only drawback is the 25k limit. Either way, for whats it worth, the service seems to be working for me, but the limit is making me drop 7k songs. That is a real downside.
The ability to travel around with many genres of music is amazing.
Any help Apple would be greatly appricated.
    Thanks.

At the moment the 25k limit is applied very strictly, and there is no option to increase it. Many of us are very hopeful that some options will be added in the future, but I doubt it will be for a while.
I have got round his by setting up a separate library which will be less than 25,000 songs, but the only way you can have more songs than that is if the extras are purchased from iTunes.
Leave feedback for Apple. The more that do so, the more likely they will make this change.
Until then, as I understand it, when you reach 25,000 songs then iTunes will just stop matching or uploading them.

  • Ssl_error_rx_record_too_long keep getting this error message when trying to access amazon secure pages also on IE and on firefox android what is it?

thought problem was solved but keeps recurring; v frustrating since at times all works fine while at others...
    I have a direct connection and the no proxy option selected on firefox connection settings;

    I spoke too soon,
    I reckon the main feature of the problem is its fickleness;
a minute ago I managed a purchase on amazon, now I can't even log in.
Checked with isp provider; MTU size is correct ; they don't think there is an issue with them; they advised to check firewall settings; but this doesn't account for the problem being on and off. For what is worth I use windows firewall and norton as antivirus.
    Any ideas?

  • What's the deal with large white blocks in exported jpegs

I just exported my first job I ran through Aperture. Out of 736 files, 9 were flawed. When opened, the exported jpeg had a missing section of the photo, that was all white. The white block appeared in random spots but always on the edges. The problem didn't occur the second time around with the same 9 files/ this time processed in a batch of 9.
I need to know how to export files reliably - in my workflow, I don't have time to double check file quality.
Has anyone seen this issue? I've seen it with 1.1.1 and 1.1.2.
    I'm shooting with a 1ds mrkII.
    MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

i've seen this too, in other odd ways. it seems to affect the images that i've spotted (with the patch tool) and have other corrections/adjustment applied. its almost like the GPU gets too overloaded to accurately recreate all of the image mods. the image seems to be segmented into smaller rectangular sections that probably get loaded into the video card's memeory and the adjustments and corrections are applied on smaller, more managable sections. when the image is stitched back together something goes horribly wrong!
the sections tend to be mis-matched with some completely black, some that have black spots where the patch tool was applied, other sections have what looks like a white overlay that's 50% opaque. sometimes even my thumbnails come up with the same results as these malformed exports. i've been able to shake them back to normalcy by toggling one of the corrections (spot/patch, highligh/shadow, etc). after the thumbnail updates properly, the export usually works fine.
this is definitely a bug with aperture and i would report it as such. attach and send the image to the bug report if you can!

ps: for what its worth, i'm usually shooting with my Nikon D200 these days.

  • What's a better deal, refubished or EDU discount?

    Yet another choice to make.

I just looked into this for the basic 1.25GHz mini. Apple store with Ed Discount 479.-, Amazon.com: 479.-. Both free shipping. Apple will add state taxes, Amazon apparently not - that's the difference in the end. I believe that the warranty is the same for both.
There is (or was last week) a refurb version of the 1.25 GHz mini that after Ed discount ended up at 427.- but that one only had a 256 RAM stick vs, the current standard 512 if you buy it new. Since Tiger seems to really need 512 that option would require buying an extra 512 stick which just about brings it back up to 479.- even if you crack the case and put in the stick yourself.
For what its worth, I went with the Ed discount at the Apple store after I read a few recent posts on these boards where people received scratched and banged up minis from Amazon. I'm very happy with it so far.

  • "I wish I knew then what I know now" - tips from Zen Xtra Veterans to Newb

I've just purchased a 60 GB Zen Xtra and very much looking forward to building a library... I've been perusing the forum here and was hoping that some Zen Xtra veterans might offer their top 5 tips to a newbie
While this is my first Mp3 player, I've been downloading and burning concerts to CDs for years, so I'm sure I'll be able to figure out the basics on my own... really looking for those tips that "they don't tell you about" that often make a big difference in a positi've experience
FYI - for what its worth, the majority of what I'll be putting on my Zen Xtra will be free and legal concerts available at www.archi've.org -
While it seems like many of these shows are "tagged" with song title, artist and date of show, it seems that many simply retain only the file and track number designation
for example, the 5th track from a 2-25-990 Grateful Dead concert will probably appear as gd90-02-25dt05_vbr.mp3
So rather than "renaming" each track I think I'm just going to have to accept the fact that the name of the song itself will not appear - and I can deal with that as I expect to have my player set to a random shuffle for the most part anyway, or will otherwise listen to any concert straight through
So if there are any other helpfulf hints from Zen Xtra vets who have a lot of jambands downloaded, I'd appreciate your input and advice...
For example - as with burning a show to CD, in listening to a concert I'd prefer not to endure a 2 second delay from song to song within a sho - is there a setting so that there is no "gap" between songs in a concert, as the tunes often run together?
    Any tips would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback - I'll look into this and at least learn how to properly tag, determine how much time and effort it takes (I'm somewhat lazy)
From a practical standpoint however, the jamband concerts I will listen to will have songs that are played on numerous nights (the draw for fans is that no two versions are ever the same, and in fact are often quite different)
As such the same song will appear many many times in my library - I don't expect to go "looking" for a particular song and and although I might consider bookmarking some better performances, ultimately I imagine I'll cue up a show and simply skip ahead past any songs I don't like
In that sense I think I'm different from a lot of users who use the Zen Xtra - and with the file names already reflecting band name, and the date of the concert - I expect that should be good enough for me as I would likely be inclined to listen to an entire show
Really appreciate the feedback though - thanks... and still am wondering whether or not there are going to be "gaps" between songs and if there's any way around that

  • What file format is needed to import images files from Lightroom or CC directory?

I have tried accessing psd, tiff and jpeg files to import them into Adobe Shape.  All have received an error message saying that the file format isn't supported. What file format should I be using for my images in order to import them?
    Thank you!

If your not going to do any individual layer effects or animation then TIFF's would be generally easier and faster to work with. If you are gong to do some effects and layer animation you should do that in Motion then bring the Motion project into FCP.
My Opinion, My Two Cents, That's might be what its worth.

  • Restored OS 9.2 - but uncertain what else needs upgrading

For reasons I'll get to later, I ran the "Restore OS9" cd on my Sawtooth powermac. Having saved the upgrades necessary to do this (9.1, 9.2.1, 9.2.2)  I am back to OS 9.2.2.
My question is, I am PRESUMING I do not have to also restore the firmware upgrades - but I am correct in that? I have pretty much saved them all to CDs, but am not sure if reinstalling the OS has anything to do with the firmware. If I DO need to do the firmware upgrades, do they need to be done version by version or can I just run the most recent ones?
Another question, I ran the 'restore' by saving the data on a backup file. Are all the applications saved in the backup to their upgraded state or do I also have to go through reinstalling them again? Should I drag the applications from the saved folder into the new OS folder?
Back when this was my everyday computer 12 years ago or so,  I would usually erase the HD every year and resinstall everything - but I so rarely use it now I barely remember the whole process - and as anyone reading this knows, even finding info about OS9 on the web is hard. Even all the documentation on apple.com seems to be gone. I dread having to figure out how to build back up from my early photoshop application through all the upgrades and updates and new versions.
For what its worth, I keep this compouter going to run OS9 graphics programs I cannot afford to replace in their current forms (which is why I'm not running 10.4 on it).
As for how I ''busted' my computer, I hooked up a newish monitor to the computer - had no idea that switching around to unrecognized monitor resolutions could COMPLETELY screw up the OS  - but it does so BEWARE.  After many headaches and troubleshooting techniques that did not work, I came to realize I didn't even HAVE to reinstall the OS - could have just thrown out a bunch of preference files, but oh well.

My question is, I am PRESUMING I do not have to also restore the firmware upgrades - but I am correct in that?
    Yes, you are correct.
Firmware updates change the coding on one or more chips on the logic board. These changes are not reversible, and are not undone by restoring the OS from CD, or even by replacing the hard drive.
Another question, I ran the 'restore' by saving the data on a backup file. Are all the applications saved in the backup to their upgraded state or do I also have to go through reinstalling them again? Should I drag the applications from the saved folder into the new OS folder?
The copies in the backupshould be in the same state (same version, etc.) they were in/at prior to the restore.
They should be moved to the same location relative to the restored OS, which is  probably not in the System Folder. Most should probably be in the "Applications (Mac OS 9)" folder or the "Utilities" folder.
Note - you may also need or want to move the spcific Preferences files used by those apps from the preferences folder in the old System Folder to the same location in the new System Folder. A few programs may also need to have extensions moved.
Yes. Old prefs settings can bollix things up when the OS tries to apply them to a new monitor. The typical major issue is an 'out of range' condition.
The quick solution tor that is to boot the machine to a CD (typically an OS install CD), then go into the System Folder on the hard drive and throw away the two Preferences files named Display Preferences and Monitors Preferences.
In the case of many CRT monitors, it may also be necessary to purge ("zap") the PRAM in the monitor. This is usually accomplished by the following: Power everything down, disconnect the video cable from the Mac. Then turn the monitor on, wait 15 to 20 seconds, then turn it off, wait about 10 seconds, and repeat the cycle 3 or 4 times. Then reconnect the video cable and boot back up.
I don't know if flat-screen (LCD or other) monitors behave the same way.
