Whats that noise?!? Crunching sound from fan?

Hi people,
Got a nasty crunching sound coming from, I think, one of the fans inside my Macbook Pro.
It sounds like electrical sparking but it only happens when the laptop is tipped i.e. not flat, which makes me think its the fan scraping on something.
Has anybody had this problem before?

Take it in for diagnosis.

  • Clicking sound from fan

My pavilion g7 1002sa which is only 8 months old has always had an annoying clicking sound from when it was purchased from new.
I thought that it would disappear with usage, but after altering the BIOS Settings to disable the continual fan running option it is still
there. While on Skype friends have complained and described it like someone using an old typewriter in the background.
    This question was solved.

Sounds like the fan needs to be replaced. Since you are under warranty that is going to mean sending it in for repair. Call HP Service and make arrangements to do so.

  • Making video in Mac Air. Get shhhh sound from fan. Help

    Hello Cezar
Issue as described you should clarify with your local dealer or Toshiba service directly. I have Satellite A200 too and my notebook is pretty quiet and described issue is not normal for me.
Sorry but to say for sure if there is something strange or not I should have the notebook in front of me. Second issue with battery is also strange and it is definitely the second reason for contacting ASP.

  • What causes that nasty clicking sound from a Logic VI?

You know the kind I mean? Especially in the ES1 or ES2. It's right at the key on. Adjusting the attack doesn't work because then you lose the punch. Is it an LFO out of whack. I really need to learn how to use the routers in those but such a pain in the a**.

Assuming you are not talking about low audio buffer performance glitching, a small click when (and only when) the amp env attack time is zero, is normal, because these envelopes are impossibly fast - way faster than a hardware synths envelopes in general.
It's equivalent to the waveform jump from zero to 1 in one sample - it will sound like a click, because that's what it is.
Just increase the attack time a tiny amount, and you'll still have a superfast attack, but not fast enough for the audio to click.

  • Quiet 'zip' sound from fan?

    Hi there,
I recently bought the new 2013 macbook air 13" version. It's a great machine and I'm really enjoying it. However, when I wake the MBA from sleep, it makes a 'zip' sound - it's very quiet. I already returned the first one because of this issue and now the new one does the same. Other people have had the same issue - and it could be normal (I'm just a little OCD about these things) - but I would just like some clarification.
    Thanks in advance

This is pone of those situations where one must behold the issue to comment on it.
I would say it is bizzarre that two sucessive units would have the same problem such as this, and it being related to an actual flaw.
I would suppose that there exists the strong possibility that your last supposition is indeeed true. What you may be hearing is simply the fan "whirring" up to speed, albiet it is very faint", and your OCD is setting you off.
When you returned the other unit, did the dealer verify the problem, or just take your word for it, no questions asked?

  • Weird sounds from fan or hard disk?

    Hi,
I have got my Mac book pro in Nov06 and unfortunately on New Years Eve, i discovered another problem with my 15" MBP.
When i was tilting it and putting it on my lap, the fan started to have weird clicking like sounds. It last only for a few seconds and did not carry on for more. I don't think this is normal.
I have heard my fan working and it does not sound same nor does it seem to come from the same position.
This sound comes from the top left side it sound like a mechanical spring that went loose. I read other forums and they mention it could be is the hard disk it that true?
Could anyone advise please if I could get this fan to change and fixed?
Is currently the Apple diligently conducting their quality checks?
Other than this is the screen. This was fixed now the fan.
How much more common problems can there be and I should look out for.
    Please advise.
    Thanks you all.
    Happy New Year

I had the exact same problem. I was using the macbook on my lap and the fans started clicking. It eventually went away as you mentioned. I have not heard it since. I would not worry about it unless you hear it again.

  • Loud noise/crackling sound from speakers

I have a CoreDuo 2ghz MacBook that is about 5 months old. It's already been in the shop to have a faulty heat sensor replaced (it was randomly just shutting down).
I also have to take it in because the case has become really discolored in areas.
But now I have this awful problem whereby the speakers are sending out really loud crackly noise. It just sitts there sending out this awful noise. Even if I turn the sound off, the crackling still comes from the area of the speakers.
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Chris

The problems been noted on this forum before - For Example ...but there's been no proposed solution. Perhaps when you bring your top case in for the discoloration issue you can have them check the wiring around the speakers.

  • Rattling sound from fan, continuously the last week (1 yr old mac book pro).

The fan seems to work at normal speed. I've tried to reset SMC and checked the activity monitor, but nothing wrong. Any suggestions?

Either the fan is dirty, in which case you can probably clean it with canned compressed air after removing the bottom pan from your machine, or some bit of debris has found its way in through the vent slots and the fan is hitting it as it spins. If you aren't comfortable opening the machine up yourself, take it in for service.

  • My macbook pro 2014 is starting to make a sound (sounds from fan) and it is getting hot, should I get it checked out?

I just bought this in August and recently I noticed a noise that would come about every now and then and then the bottom started to heat up. This is my first macbook pro (retina) and I would like to know if this is normal or I should get it checked out. Thanks.

I think it's not normal. You'd better make Genius Bar appointment.

  • I lost my sound when firefox updated on my computer. Also said something like not compatible to AVG . Does this mean my security is no longer working? What happened to my sound from internet sites????

Sound doesn't work when on the internet. Only has happened since firefox updated on my computer Aug. 25-26 sometime. All of my sound divices work fine off the net.

Reset the SMC and PRAM each at least 2-3 times. I don't know where you got instructions for these resets so please navigate to Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets for correct instructions just in case.

  • Problems with sound from Nomad II Juxe

Recently I have been having sounds problems with my Nomad II juxebox. Every couple of seconds the sounds spikes or just skips, making it sound sometimes as If I am listening to a shaking CD player without antishock. However, my Juxebox player is at rest, so shaking can't be the cause. Also, interestingly enough, it seems that only the sound from the head phone jack spikes randomly, but the sound from the output jack at the back sounds fine!! Which makes me assume that it's not a hard dri've, or memmory reading problem either. So what is it then? Any Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Joseph

You should take it to an Apple store or an AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) Carefully inspect the hinge joint and make sure there is no debris that you can see, you can try carefully sliding some sticky tape thru the joint to clear any loose stuff out. But this sounds like there might be more going on here, and the hinge is something that you do not want to fool with.

  • What can be wrong with my iPhone 4?  There is no sound from incoming calls, SMS and even when I play music.  I already checked that it's not muted, volume is high and not set to "vibrate mode."

strange "tang" noise that seems to come from nowere very annoying anyone know whats the source

I feel your pain, so many sales stuff to work through to get to the good stuff
    here's my very simplistic interpretation
Cloud control = anything with a "c" behind the name - eg 12c
Grid control = anything with a "g" behind the name - eg 11g
oracle enterprise manager is the product that comes from Oracle to manage the database layer from the operating system upwards , (eg software components) - latest version 12c something
ops center, or oracle enterprise manager ops center is a product that came from Sun to manage the OS, hardware level and down (eg hardware components) - latest version 11g update 1 release 3
currently these two products, OEM and OEM Ops Center are 2 seperate installs
I also believe that Oracle only make roadmaps available on request
The only sites where you are going to get any official info is from the oracle websites
