Whats the best guide out right now to installing windows 8

I have bootcamp 5.0.1 and I am really tired of waiting for Apple's support of Windows 8. So what is the best guide that ya'll have seen for installing windows 8 on a mac (more specifically a late 2012 macbook air)? Also, I would love some help on figuring out how to get the best drivers while we wait for Apple to get their crap together.

(Other customers have been able to install and use Acrobat 8 and 9 on Windows 7, but that isn't a supported configuration.)

I upgraded to Leopard the day it was released and I have had nothing but problems so I am wanting to do a fresh install. My question is, what is the best way to go about this whilst trying to make it as painless as possible... I am mostly concerned with all my logins.. I would have a few hundred FTP logins and though I have copied the keychain over in the past I found it to be a bit of a pain...
If there a way I can copy all of my home directory somewhere and then re-install Leopard and then copy my home directory back over so I don't have to worry about all of my preferences and logins??

Before you do anything I'd recommend that you create a new account, set the computer to log into that account automatically (or at least not to log into any account on startup) and the shut down the computer. Then restart and log into the new account. Go online, play a game, do the sort of thing that seems to bring on the crashing/freezing/problems. If the problem shows up you've confirmed that you need to work on the computer. If it doesn't show up you know your problem is in your account and you can move your documents and data - *but not your library!* into this new account.
If the problem does continue there are two ways to proceed. You could clone your current hard drive, erase it, reinstall the OS, and then migrate your applications. I'd recommend against using Migration Assistant on your data. I'd do that manually, again, ignoring your Library folder. You'll have to reserialize your programs and perhaps reinstall a couple. But at least part of your trouble might be in your library.
The above is a lot of work on your part and will take quite a few hours after the OS is installed which is about an hour itself. Before doing this, I'd try performing an Archive & Install. (After starting up with the Leopard disk, click on the options button to see this option.) It will replace the old System & Library with a new one. The downside is that it might not work - but if your first Leopard installation was a simple install and your problems have existed from day one, it probably will do the job. If it doesn't you've wasted a couple hours - none of it spent babysitting the computer. Once you've started the process you can walk away from it.

I just had to do a quick search, because I was not sure when the Refine Edge was introduced, but it appears you do have it in CS4. Check out this tutorial, but ignore all the stuff about paths. Make a rough selection with Quick select - it shares a location on the tool bar with the Magic Wand, so don't confuse the two.
Having made the rough selection, open Refine Edge. I remember it took me a while to get the hang of it, but tutorials will help

There is no such app. There are apps available that will periodically email the location but those have to be installed before it is lost.However, typically those do not works with iPods since iPod have to be connected to the internet via wifi to send the email.

Apps are permanently tied to the ID used to purchase them.
Go to https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/ and re-set th password for the old one.
Then, log into the app store with it and update the apps purchased with that ID.

Whats the best way to manage 100s of thumbnails?

I'm trying to build a simple photo management app in java, like Picasa2. I want to be able to scroll through 100s of thumbnails. Whats the best way to manage them from a memory standpoint?
a) can I load up 100s of thumbnails into a JScrollPane? If so, will it do anything special to manage memory for the thumbnails that are offscreen?
b) should I just draw up a grid of JLabels and page through them like you would in html?
Is there another approach? Is there any special way to manage the thumbnails that are offscreen (besides loading them all in memory ) and still get a fast response time?
BTW, if anyone wants to join me in this project, I'm happy to opensource and share.

Regardless, I've implemented JList for images, and it works really well. For those of you who are following in my footsteps, the answer is:
JList renders ImageIcons by default.
If you want to render a JLabel with an ImageIcon set to an image, you need to write a custom ListCellRenderer, but it turns out that is not too hard. But here is a follow-up problem:
My app has JLabels that subscribe to an ImageLoader that loads images in the background. On init() the JLabel just has the ImageIcon set to a placeholder image:
          myJLabel.imgIcon = new ImageIcon();
          myJLabel.imgIcon.setImage( myPlaceholderImage );
However, once the actual image is loaded, I call a refresh method to set the ImageIcon to a new image:
          myJLabel.imgIcon.setImage( myLoadedBufferedImage );
My problem is getting the JList to render the updated JLabel. Right now, I keep a reference to the JList with myJLabel and call revalidate() on refresh, but that doesn't seem very clean.
Is there an easy/natural place to get the JList to revalidate()?
Can I easily know which JLabels are in the viewport of the JList scrollpane? That way I could revalidate only the visible JLabels or when scrolling.

From Kappy (note: with this method, you will need to update to the present OS version using the appropriate Combo Update from Apple Downloads.)
Boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities (Installer menu if using Panther or Jaguar) menu. After DU loads select the startup volume from the left side list then click on the Erase tab. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then click on the Options button. Select the one pass Zero Data option and click on the OK button. Then click on the Erase button.
Note: You can skip the Zero Data option if you are not concerned about removing sensitive personal data from the hard drive. If you choose to skip this part of the process then it is possible for others to recover data from the hard drive. The Zero Data procedure will prevent others from getting access to your personal information.
This process will take 30 minutes to several hours depending upon the size of the hard drive. After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Now complete the OS X installation. At the completion of the installation do not restart the computer. Instead just shut it off. The next user will be presented with the Setup Assistant when they turn on the computer just as it would if new out of the box.

External drives... whats the best for video.... ?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to figure out what the best bang for the buck is in regards to external drives, and what works best for video.
I have considered the LaCie enclosures, I have also considered buying a 500 GB SATA to replace the 200 GB second drive I have inside the G5. The issue than is what enclosure works the best with a MAC and is 1394 and will the firm ware support huge video files, for render or exporting?
Can anyone give some advice based on what they have learned through past experience.

I've been using LaCie FW (800 & 400) drives for about three years now with only one problem - One of the first drives I bought (I think it was a 120 GB) fried itself a few months ago. I currently have 80GB, 120 GB, 400GB and 500 GB drives, all working fine, never have dropped frames. The LaCie drives are pretty tough too, as I've sent most of them back and forth across the country at least a few times with no problems.
However, be careful if you update the firmware for them - make sure the drive is clean as the firmware update can cause corruption of data on the drive (I found that out the hard way!). Also keep in mind that they do put off a fair amount of heat (especially the big ones) so I wouldn't consider stacking them on top of each other horizontally.

You may just restart your old computer right after/on the startsound press "cmd and r" this shuld get you to recoverymode. Here you can start up disk utilitys, chose your mac HD and press erase. After this close disk utilitys and install OS (you may connect the time capsul already and it will import with the install)

Apple isnt here. this is a user based forum for technical questions. The solution is to restart, reset, and restore as new which is in the manual after that get it replaced for hard ware failure. if your within your one year warranty its replaced if it is out of the warranty then it is 199$

You may want to ask this question in the GarageBand forums.
USB is cheaper but Firewire is generally better.
PreSonus is a good brand and I think they are class compliant, so no driver needed - plug and play.
M-Audio is another popular brand. Sometimes may have driver issues, though.
But a lot depends on your budget and what your needs are. How many input will you need, etc?
If just for solo recording then the PreSonus Inspire would be good. For a full band their FP10 (Firebox) is great.
