Whats the best method to burn a DVD?

Anyone have good success with iDVD? or can anyone tell me how using a disk image works, and is it better?

Sure:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006
Use Apple's Disc Utilities to Lower the speed like this:
Or you can use Roxio Toast ...
Test the disk image for proper playback like this using Apple's DVD Player prior to burning to Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R at 4x or lower (slower is better).

  • What's the best method of burning CD/DVD using MBP?

As per my title, what is the best method of burning CD/DVD using my MBP? Can I use iDVD, disk utility etc? I'm referring to burning stuff like music, photos, doc etc. I used Toast Titanium (shd be version 6) with my iBook G4 but it doesn't seem to work with MBP after data migration. Guess the version is too old and not supported in Snow Leopard. Is there any upgrade for Toast Titanium and how much would it cost?

    Hi tanvivien,
The best method is really going to depend on what you're burning. All of the iLife applications (iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie, etc.) make it pretty easy to burn with the click of a couple of buttons via the "Share" menu drop down.
You can use Finder for files/data as well as media but if it's multimedia then usually the programs where they're managed or stored is easier.
Information on Toast and how to upgrade would be found here - http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/titanium/overview.html

If  you're trying to copy a commercial movie and burn it to disc, then it is expressly against the Terms of Use of this community to describe any method to illegally copy or circumvent copy protection DVD's
If you've made a movie and want to author a DVD, then you should use iDVD, Toast or, if  you're really skilled, Final Cut Pro X.
If you just want to move a movie to a DVD, which probably won't play on a DVD player, then just insert a blank DVD, and move it over from the finder.  Click burn.

  • Whats the best method to cut out hair?

Im using photoshop Cs4 - whats the best method to cut out hair from a background?

I just had to do a quick search, because I was not sure when the Refine Edge was introduced, but it appears you do have it in CS4.  Check out this tutorial, but ignore all the stuff about paths.  Make a rough selection with Quick select - it shares a location on the tool bar with the Magic Wand, so don't confuse the two.
Having made the rough selection, open Refine Edge.  I remember it took me a while to get the hang of it, but tutorials will help
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxKPUW1vYEg
The above tutorial deals specifically with CS4.  This next one is probably the best real world use of Refine Edge I've seen, because it uses a difficult subject (as opposed to the easy selections so many tutorials fob you off with)

  • Whats the best method to deploy sccm 2012 client

Hello what is the best method to deploy SCCM 2012 client, is there a script that should be used as sometimes the client push fails. In particular pushing the client to server 03 /08/12 types.
    Thankyou
    SCCM Deployment Technician

Ultimately, the best method is whatever works for you. Every environment is different and has unique constraints and requirements. You first need to learn out each of the methods and what they do to be able to properly evaluate which will work best for you.
Kind of like mining for gold, who cares how you got it out of the ground, once you get it out, you're rich :-) But if you rely on someone else telling you what the best way was for their mine, you may not be doing it the best way for your mine thus you need
to geological surveys, exploration, trial and error, etc. In other words, you need to do some real grunt work.
Often, using multiple methods is best though because each has its pros and cons (yes, even my startup script -- thanks for the cheerleading Michael and Tim). But as mentioned, it all comes down to you learning about your environment and the different
methods available to make the best choice. If there was only one "best" way to do it, there wouldn't be multiple available and none of us would really be needed.

  • Newbie Question - Best Method of Burning to DVD?

Hi, I apologize in advance for how easy this question may be. I recently edited 20 minutes of footage for a friend and I'd like to have it burned to a DVD.
In the past, I've burned plenty of video files with Nero but this project exports as a 4.3gb file, which won't fit on the DVD. I know next to nothign about codecs and such. The file type I used was Microsoft DV AVI and the Compressor was DV NTSC, frame size is 720 by 480 and pixel aspect ratio is D1/DV NTSC (0.9). I hope this helps... I believe these were chosen by default.
I just want to be able to burn it to a DVD or export it as a manageable file size to burn later, without sacrificing too much quality, as the quality is already pretty poor.
    Thanks for any help :D

Encore will compress the file to MPEG for you.

  • What the best format for compression to DVD

I have a 18.91gb .mov file that I made of FCP and I want to compress it with out losing to mush quality, to be able to fit on to a DVD.
So my question is which of the compression settings should I pick to start of with.
    Thanks
Message was edited by: Jon 2050

Compressor is doing a HD to SD conversion in addition to creating a MPG-2 file.
I have had video turn out wonderful using this work flow and other times I have not.
In worst case scenarios I have ended up doing the SD conversion in FC and then creating the MPG-2 from the SD FC export.
If you have problems or are not happy with the final compression you may want to do a test on a problem scene with the above work flow and see if you get better results. Whenever I have had compressor issues this has solved it.

  • What is the best method for multiple language interface?

    Hi,
I need to adapt my CVI application to multiple languages.  But I have to be able to do this on the fly.  The Localizer is great for all the panel objects and this works great.  But I was wondering what the best method is for all the dialog box text?  Right now I'm using const char defines for the text. For exampl:
    const char *CONST_NO_STRING         = "No";
Is there a simple method, or best practice method, to load different language dialog text at run time or on the fly?
    Thanks,
    Andy

Not sure if Andy's original concern was settled... but let's try and button this up:
    - The UI Localizer does use a text file with manually-written translated strings for each supported language
    - From the Localizer help: this will only aid in translating the panel labels.
Use this instrument driver to easily display user interfaces in different languages. When loading a panel or menu bar, you can specify a language file that contains translations for all the labels on the panel and all the menu items. You can create different language files for the user interfaces by translating them with the User Interface Localizer utility (localui.exe).
    - If you have additional content to be translated (like the text inside a drop down box), manually loading from .lwl, or similar, files and programmatically setting those dialog box entries would be the solution. - Looks like CVI should handle multibyte languages just fine (see below), though I have never used them.

  • Best way to burn a DVD+R DL disc?

I was wondering what everyone thought was the best way to burn a DVD+R DL disc.
This is how i do it and let me know if you have better results doing it a different way.
    1. Never burn from DVD SP, always use Toast instead.
    2. Select All Regions (including #7) in DVD SP
    3. Build/Format, then select Harddrive, .img file
    4. Use Toast and select Copy, then Image File.
    1. I never burn in DVD SP because it uses the fastest write speed that your disc/burner does and this seems to have issues.
2&3. I always select All Region because DVD SP by default doesn't select #7 (no clue to why that is) and if you got to harddrive using .img, then that is CMF format and CMF needs all region (RCM Value of 0). Otherwise DVD SP will have different region codes in the MAIN.DAT vs. the CONTROL.DAT. 0 and possibly 64 or 40.
    4. With Toast you can set the write speed. I just use 2X and this takes 40 minutes or so for a full DVD+R DL disc.
    But..
    Is this the best way?
Or is the DVD-ROM (UDF) option a better way?
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Brian,
Not that this really helps you solve the dvdsp thing but if they are regular clients maybe buy a cheap(ish) dvd player that plays your discs fine and send them it. Explain the ±DL issues. Say the authoring is fine but the ±DL media thing is a mine field so here is a player so proofing goes smoother in the future.
If Toast is working better then send a media input form with the proof stating where the LB will be on the master etc.
I'd like to hear anything anyone else has to say but I'm sure we're aware of most of the options already.
FWIW, if you're running 10.4.x you can type drutil info in Terminal and hit enter to see what types of media the attached drives can burn,
    Good luck,
    -Jake

  • I finally was successful in burning a CD of a slideshow I created in iPhoto, however, it is blurry. What is the best way to burn to a CD or DVD for clarity. Also, I realize if burned in iPhoto it will only be playable in iPhoto. Help! This is needed soon!

I finally was successful in burning a CD of a slideshow I created in iPhoto, however, it is blurry. What is the best way to burn to a CD or DVD for clarity. Also, I realize if burned in iPhoto it will only be playable in iPhoto. Help! This is needed soon for a wedding reception!

What version of iPhoto are you using?  How do you plan to view the slideshow at the wedding reception, on a TV screen?  If so then you will need to send the slideshow to iDVD and burn a disk from there.
If you're in iPhoto 11 and the slideshow was created in the slideshow mode and not from an album, then go to the Share menu and select iDVD.  That will create a QT movie of the slideshow and import it into iDVD.
In iDVD select your theme and setup the menu as you'd like.  If you want the movie to begin plahying immediately when the disk is inserted into the DVD player go into the Gallery mode and drag the movie into the Autostart  bin at the left.
If you want the movie to loop continuously go to the Advanced menu and select Loop.
When you're finished setting upb the iDVD project save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will allow you to check it with DVD Player before tryingto burn to disk.  Mount the disk imnage by double clicking on it and launch DVD Player and play.  If the movie plays as you want and everything is good you can  burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Cd or dvd? rw or r? what is the best way to burn disk?

Im almost just lost all my songs, trying to do this before, so what is the best way for burning a cd from itunes?
I've heard its better with a cd and r (i believe that means you can only put songs on it once?)
please help! i rather not lose my hard earned and searched ituens music!

As long as you're not having to use too many CDs, and don't care that you can't erase them, then CD-Rs would be fine. If you want to try DVDs and you had problems before, first confirm what format your drive takes - some use only DVD+R (or RW), some use only DVD-R, and some can take both - and perhaps try a different brand of disk; some brands just don't work well, and some drives just seem to prefer different brands.

What is the best software for burning a large slideshow with 500 photos and music to DVD?

Are you talking about strictly burning an already put-together slideshow or composing one and then burning it?
My all time favorite slide show maker is Photo to Movie; you can then burn it from there or get it into iMovie and/or iDVD for the "finishing" touch. My favorite burn software is Toast, although you can use iMovie, iDVD, and Finder as well.

I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • What is the best way to burn full hd movie to dvd

Hi i need to find the best way to burn full hd movie from panasonic camcorder to dvd thanks

    Hi
    There is NON !
as DVD is as Standard (Whatever program used) - only Interlaced SD-Video Quality
So if You need better then
    • Use Blu-Ray (Roxio Toast™ + BD-Burner and Disks)
    • or Save out to an USB-Memory stick and play this
What's worse is that iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - Can not deliver even DVD-Standard but degrades the quality by discarding every second line in the picture. This happens when going from Eventy's to Project's - Ther is no way around this but to use another program that can deliver as
    • iMovie up to HD6 - or -
    • FinalCut any version
If iMovie 08-11 are only option then do not
    • Share to iDVD - as this also degrades the final DVD - but -
    • Share to Media Browser - and as MEDIUM (or ev. as Large) - NOT HD or other resolution as this too degrades the final DVD due to BAD downscaling in iDVD program.
    My notes on DVD quality:
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
    2. Video from
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos and the Ken Burns effect NOT is used. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x4 or x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application when burning from a DiskImage.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc). For SD-Video - if HD-material is used I guess that 4 to 5 times more would do.
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW) - DVD-R play’s on more and older DVD-Players
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
(I use JES_Deinterlacer to keep frame per sec. same from editing to the Video-DVD result.)
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVDs at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
    deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
    _ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
    • Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
    • Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
to get this to work I
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
    • Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
    • Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices
    • No other process running in background as - ScreenSaver, EnergySaver OR TIMEMACHINE etc
    • and I'm very careful on what kind of video-codecs, audio file format and photo file formats I use
    • and I consider the iDVD Bug - never go back to video-editor to change/up-date - if so Start  a brand new iDVD project
    • Chapters set as they should - NO one at very beginning and no one in any transition or within 2 sec from it
    • Lay-out - Turn on TV-Safe area and keep everything buttons, titles etc WELL INSIDE not even touching it !
Try to break the process up into two stages
    • Save as a DiskImage (calculating part)
    • Burn from this .img file (burning stage)
To isolate where the problem starts.
Another thing is - Playing it onto a Blu-Ray Player. My PlayStation3 can play BD-disks but not all of my home made DVDs so to get this to work I
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
    • Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
    • Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices

TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
    • Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
    • No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
    • Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
    • Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
    • Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
    • Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show
    • No File Vault on - Important
    • NO - TimeMachine - during iMovie/iDVD work either ! IMPORTANT
    • Lot's of icons on DeaskTop/Finder also slows down the Mac noticeably
    • Start a new User-Account and log into this and iMovie get's faster too - if a project is in a hurry
    • And let Mac run on Mains - not just on battery
