Hi,
The black screen problem on boot seems to be with the newer bios versions, seems to work fine on the original )

  • What The Deal With This Issue!

Ive recorded in Protools and currently using Logic 8 and my results are the same. My mixes are pretty good. But my issue is, my final song file is pretty small according to level meters.
I have friends using fruity loops and nuendo and their mixes are sup par at best but their final file is way greater than mine when comparing them meter wise. A few of my friends bounce straight out of their DAW with no further processing and the song is way greater than mine as far as volume.
Ive even tried to use some of Logics mastering features but cant seem to achieve greater volume. Its like my final mix is being smothered or something. In the bounce dialog box, normalize is unchecked! This has been the same for me when using Protools and now Logic.
A few of my friends dont have clue when it comes to mixing and others just do a quick bounce down with NO MIXING for demo purposes but yet when they bounce the song down, the song file is nice and up to zero when mine sounds better but flirting around -7dbs. I dont get this!

mine sounds better but flirting around -7dbs
    That's the point.......
Two friend of mine produce dance music and remixes and they usually mix and master at -12dB (with Duende and TC Electronic hardware...).
I've used Nuendo and Cubase too but I dislike their sound.
I think that the pushing part must be reserved to the mastering step so I'd be not so worry about the -7dB.
    Just my 2 cents.
    cheers

PVII has a slick solution that uses IE conditional comments.

  • What the Deal with MW ?

    Hi,
I've been using OMW since 2006 . The only prereqs was a 9i DB .
Since then the architecture changed and needed a Application Server 10gR2 as a prequisite.
Now in 2.16 , I see its back to 10gR2 database only.
Please could anyone educate us why all these changes??
Anyways I've installed 2.16 on top of 10gR2 and starting a R12 upgrade project.
In past i've used the tool to upgrade following combinations:
    11.0.3 on 8i to 11i / 9i
    11.5.9 on 8i to 11i/9i
    11.5.9 on 8i to 11i on 10gR2
    apps db upgrade 9i --> 10g R2
    Great Product !
    regards,
    Santosh

    Santosh,
I've been writing and maintaining MW since long before 2006. LOL
We historically have always required two ORACLE_HOME's. One for a DB; one for iAS. The version of the RDBMS has changed over the years, as new ones got released from ST.
The current version of the MW has removed the use of iAS, so now it only requires one OH, and it's for 10gR2 RDBMS.
The reason for this change is that customers wanted us to simplify and shorten the installation. One of the main ways to do this was to reduce our requirement for an iAS installation.
So "YOU" spoke, and we listened! ;-)
    Glad you're enjoying the product!

  • I can't hear when video chatting, whats the deal?

I live far away from my friend, and we video chat. Sometimes I can't hear her, but she always hears me! Everything says that audio is fine, and connection is great but I still can't hear her. WHATS THE DEAL WITH THAT?

    Hi,
Lets talk  in broad terms first.
For a Buddy to hear you the Mic as to be connected and turned On in iChat
Taking that it is going to be an Internal Mic we can presume it is connected.
In iChat it is turned On in the Video menu (It will read Audio if you have no camera) and is the one to the right of the Buddies menu.
In here, Microphone Enabled (Or Audio Chat Enabled in  Lion) needs to be ticked.
The Mic then needs to be chosen in System Preferences > Sound > Input AND in iChat as the input/Microphone choice.
In iChat the choice is made in iChat menu > Preferences > Video/Audio Section > Microphone drop down.
In the System Preferences > Sound > Input the volume has to be high enough for you to be heard.
This tends to be a setting that moves the blue bars to about 3/4s of the way across. (At least 1/2 way and not banging in to the right hand end when you talk)
If you are doing things in other apps that use the mic differently or even a different Mic you may have problems if you don't manually change things back for iChat.
    So...
Transferring this to the Other end, your Buddy may not have the Mic on.
May have been doing something else Audio-wise and not changed things back.
May have reduced the volume for Input for another App and not reset it.
She may also have issues with the OS "Seeing" the Mic
She should check the System Profiler (Information in Lion) and see if in Hardware > USB the mic shows up
You can access this from the Apple Icon Menu and holding the ALT key down.
If it does not show up here then a SMC/PMU reset may be in order.

  • What is the Deal with US Bank?

Hey Guys/Gals,        What is the Deal with US Bank? I applied and barely qualified for VISA Signature for a CL of 5K. Are they generally conservative? Fee

Congratulations on your approval! It's good to have your foot in the door with U.S. Bank; especially on the Visa Signature level. As others have mentioned, they are pretty conservative. I have had some hiccups with them in the past, but once you establish a rapport with them, they tend to loosen up.  Good luck in building up your relationship. I have had decent auto CLIs once in a blue moon and the last HP CLI increased my limits by 15K+ across two cards.

  • You can download past purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. This computer can be used with a different Apple ID in 71 days. Whats the deal???

You can download past purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. This computer can be used with a different Apple ID in 71 days. Whats the deal???

You can use multiple AppleIDs to purchase new music but you are limited as to how frequently you can change authorizations for re-downloading  past purchases.  It may well be a measure to deter piracy by stopping a group of people from going around to a friend's computer and downloading purchases on the other person's computer.  It is easy to avoid by making sure you have backup copies on drives at home so you never need to redownload anything.

  • I opened a file on my desktop that I don't remember putting there.  It turned out to be a keychain certificate from a client of ours.  Does this mean that they were spying on me?  What is the deal with that?  Any ideas?

I opened a file on my desktop that I don't remember putting there. We use many photos and I thought it was a photo file I was looking for. It turned out to be a keychain certificate from a client of ours.  Does this mean that they were spying on me?  What is the deal with that?  Any ideas?

Interesting tid bit.  I created an AAC of the original file, deleted the original MP3 from my library and also deleted the Clean matched track from the icloud.
Result is that it matched with the explicit version of Mrs. Officer this time.
What I am curious about is which songs this is happening for. I've went thru a few batched of about 500 songs at a time and redownloaded in 256k for many tracks. Sadly we don't have people to bring this to our attention and I have so much music that it's impossible to go thru every song to make sure I am getting the right version.

  • What's the deal with dual processors???

The whole dual processor thing has been bugging me for some time now. If I have a dual 500mhz processor, is it the same as a 1.0ghz processor, worse than one, better than one?! Are there other factors at play? In my limited scope, if you had a dual 500, 533, whatever, it would be the same as a single 1.0ghz - and yet these dual processors are priced much cheaper. I really am at a loss as to how computers do their processing, and how to compare single processor G4's and dual processor G4's when making a purchase.
    Insight would be greatly appreciated!

And you shouldn't forget, the future is multiprocessors. There is a limit to miniturization, and the solution seems to be multiplication. So operating systems and applications are increasingly going to be multiprocessor-aware. Maybe a perfect example is the upcoming MacOS release, Snowleopard. Apparently, there will be almost no cosmetic changes. The changes will essentially be 'under-the-hood'. And you can bet, that some of those changes will be increased efficiency with respect to multiple processors.
So what's the deal with airplane peanu...err, dual processors?
The advantage, theoretically is, having more workers to do the work. Your 1ghz processor is like a worker who can lift 100kg, and your 500mhz are like workers who can lift 50kg each.
So where's the advantage? If you have a farm with 40 kg hay bales in the field that you need to pick up, your better off with two workers than one right? Or 8 workers in the case of a 8-core MacPro. So an multiprocessor-aware operating system, doles out the work much more efficiently, spreading the tasks around, or spreading a single task around in pieces (if the app is so written).
You've heard of render farms? The multiple computers used to render the frames of animated movies? Its the same principle. Having computer 1 render the first 1000 frames and computer 2 the next, the project gets done within a lifetime. If they had had only one computer, ToyStory would still not be finished.
Its the future. Just wait till the end of this year for example. Nehalem chips will be sporting even more processors.

  • What's the deal with the battery?

I just bought a new video iPod a few days ago. I've loaded all of my songs onto it, and loaded a few videos on it also. I've FULLY charged it, and I watched about 15 minutes of video on it. After that video is done, it says the battery is at about 1/3rd full. 1/3rd battery life after 15 minutes of video, then I play a few songs, and the battery meter goes up to about half full. Then after a few songs I play another video and the battery meter immediately goes to 0% full. What in the world is the deal with this thing? Is it accurate? If it is, can this really be that I can only watch about 20 minutes of video on it until the battery is completely dead? Anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks in advance.
    Danny
    iMac

First you really need to try charging your ipod to full then run it empty then charge it again, do this three or four times and it will sync your meter to your ipod. Please note though that the meter is a guide and just a guide, it does not always acuratly display the correct charge of your battery. I have noticed when I have my video on, my meter is lower then when I am playing songs. But I have found that mine is fairly acurate when I first turn it on before I play songs or do anything. I always check it that way so I have a good idea of where I am at. It takes out all the variables, but I have had my nano in the red and gotten 5 hours out of it... so go figure... my video when it hits red, has maybe 1 hr tops.. depending on what I am doing, if it is video... like 20 mins or less.

  • What's the deal with applets running in IE?

    All
Can anybody set me straight on what the deal is with IE security and Java applets? I am supporting a few Java applications that run on an Intranet, currently in Netscape 4.x; It's my job to convert to Internet Explorer. There are some things that happen like reading the filesystem of the client which require "entrusted" code. I'd like to make this conversion seamless to the users. That is I don't want them to have to install any plug-in's or walk through any more installations on their client machines. I've done some research and it seems like there may be some deeper issues involved (certificates, RSA, Signed applets, CAB files, etc....) Or is it just a matter of changing some code in the source files?
    Any thoughts?? Please help

Signing your applet is an option. As far as I know, you'll have to pay for that to be done. Some places that do this charge a couple hundred dollars.
Another option, since your applets are running on an intranet, would be to add permissions in java.policy in c:\plug_in_dir\java\security or a directory close to that. For instance, if your applets needed access to the client's hard drive AND you're sure that the applet can't delete or mess with files in a malicious way, then at the bottom of the java.policy file, you can add something like this:
    grant codeBase "http://your_intranet_site/your_applet_dir/*" {
    permission java.io.FilePermission "c:/someModifiableFile", "read, write, delete, execute";
This would give your applets launching from 'your_applet_dir' access to 'someModifiableFile'.
I suggest the first option if your company will put the doe up for it.

  • What's the deal with the video format?

Hello! What is the deal with the video format? Does it mean I have to code the videos for 640*480 ? It won't accept any other size? What size do I need to select for widescreen format?
With Quicktime pro I've been able to encode videos with a very nice resolution and small size, then try to synch them to the ipod touch and then the error, it can't be played. I use the .mov format, I like it more but if I have to use .mp4 then I'll use it.
    Thanks for the help!

According to Apple's Specification, these are your video choices
H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.
H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.
MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.

  • What's the deal with the CC menubar panel?

What's the deal with the CC menubar panel? The tab to the apps are gone -- looks like it wants me to update the panel itself rather than list my installed apps. I've been on CC for about a month, is this common? Thankfully I can still open all apps normally, but the internet seems to think the "CC Way" is a horror show.
Do you guys have trouble after updating the updater? All this talk of running "the cleaner" (a mafia term?) and reinstalling everything with each version bump is kinda scary. It could be that people only post online when things go wrong, and 95% of people update just fine. But since I'm new I guess I'd want some reassurance before committing to a night of Cleaning and Reinstalling...
I'm one of those people who think app updates very 12 to 18 months was just fine (and stable). Would it be harmful to ignore updates for a few months? Lets see, I have a healing brush, smart objects, a blob tool, pretty good 3D in AE, ID seems to handle type pretty well… there's really no reason to update every month is there?
    -- Jim

Has anyone had a normal non-cleaning install of this week's update?

  • What's the deal with Quicktime?

What's the deal with Quicktime? In the past, there was just plain Quicktime. Then it was separated into two different versions: Standard and Pro. I bought the Pro version for my eMac. Then, when I moved to my 24" iMac, Quicktime was made into just one version again, and the features were rolled into it. Now that I have my 27" iMac running Lion, I find that a bunch of the menu items are greyed out and have the word "Pro" next to them. Also, I'm finding that it can't open many standard files, such as .MOV files that run fine on my older Mac, because "a required codec is not available." What's going on?

There are two versions of QuickTime Player available for Snow Leopard and Lion systems. The QuickTime Player X included with those versions of Mac OS X have some of the features previously only available with a Pro key to unlock QuickTime Player 7.
QuickTime Player 7 is an optional installation on SL and Lion, and apparently you installed it or it carried over across an update. If you wish the Pro features activated, you need to enter in your Pro key just as you did previously (you will need a key for QuickTime 7; an older key will not work). Then the Pro features will be available again, though support for some old codecs is no longer available. For more information, see:
