Whats the keyboard power on? password? ctrl-f1?

hello,
i'm using bios 2.4, there's this part in the bios where you can choose how to turn the computer on, or is it only me who thought it was?
by default, button only is selected, but when i chose password, and entered my password, rebooted, the system wont post.  cleared cmos, nothing, took off battery, then its okay again.  when i tried to choose ctrl-f1, i could still turn the computer on by the power button but not by pressing ctrl-f1
what is it for anyway?
thanks,
edison

'll try to answer the questions I understood from your post 8)
The +5Vsb is part of the PSU specs.  If you know what PSU you have, you can do a quick search for it.  Otherwise, it may be printed on the side of the PSU- NOT on a STICKER.  Don't trust STICKERS.  Anyone (including the people you bought it from) can put it there.
In the BIOS, you can only choose one option.  Someone else posted that theirs fails sometimes to come on with the password option, so I use the Ctrl-F# (one or twelve, since I can do this easiest :D ).
If you shut down the computer, Ctrl-F# will be able to turn it back on anytime.  Even if it doesn't work, pressing the Power On button on the computer will get the computer running again, so don't worry that you're at the mercy of the keyboard :D
Some people have cordless keyboards connected via PS/2.  This means you can work with your PC from 6 feet away :D and turn it on and off by just using the keyboard :D
You need the set the "JKBAT"  (IIRC) jumper correctly otherwise it will not work.

  • Suddenly strange French characters appearing instead of what the keyboard shows

I have a brand new HP Touchless 520-1050 with a wireless keyboard.  I have the language set to Canadian English (and I double checked that by checking via the control panel).  There is a button on the keyboard (2nd from the left bottom row) that says Fn which I assume has something to do with French.  I have touched some combination of keys on the keyboard and now I am getting characters that differ from what appears on the keyboard.  For example, instead of getting a question mark when I hit that key, I get this: É. or this é depending whether or not I hit the shift key.  How to I undo what I have unwittingly doneÉ

Now look for Region and Language click on it. It should open Formats screen. Now click on Keyboard and Languages (Tab on top) You will see Choose a display language . It is the bottom one if it is written in French. Select your language you like to use. If you whant to check your keyboard lay out. • I deleted the keyboard language my password is in.  Now I am locked out of the device.  What can I do?

Accidentally, I deleted the language that I set my password in.  Now I can't get in my iPad,

Oops, you will have to connect to a computer and iTunes and restore as new.

  • Brand New MacB Air and i haven't been able to get passed the format which has had to be done twice because, I have a French Numeric Keyboard and Language in English.  The minute I type in my password, the keyboard gives me letters that i did NOT type.

I live in Switzerland and can only buy a Mac Air with a French or German keyboard, no chance to buy an English keyboard Mac here,.  When setting up  I chose the French numerique keyboard, although there are two choices French or French numerique.  I put in my language as English.  When all was set up I came to the start page and had to put in my password, by the grace of g....I just happened to see the first letter I typed before it turned into a dot.  My password which was supposed to start with the number 2 showed a french e with accent before it quikly became a dot.
Because of the dot system, this meant that I had no clue what the keyboard was typing as my password ...........and true enough my password was not accepted despite my trying all combinations.  I have had to reformat twice now thanks to Apple Chat and both times my password was not accepted.  I am in the process of formatting it again, this time on my own.  If the Start page does not accept my password again this can only mean that the Mac left the factory with faults.  I could not be more disappointed with the money spent and the time and trouble that Apple Chat and I have spent in trying to correct a brand new out of the box Mac.  I have a cheap Toshiba laptop also with a french keyboard and english language which gave me no trouble at all.  I am not impressed with the so called King of computers!  First of all the dot system is daft.  People want to be able to see and confirm their passwords before they are set for good.  Second,  this problem is going to give me a lot of grief.  Switzerland business is not renowned for its after sales service or the time it takes to do repairs.  When I had an issue with my Vaio laptop which was still under warranty, they kindly picked it up from my house, repaired and promptly returned it.  How's that for good proper service.

i didn't read a lot of your 2nd paragraph, but it seems like the password is the issue, right?
    do a true clean install
reboot your machine and hold down command+option+r, you should see a spinning globe - if you don't see the globe or anything that reads internet recovery, shut down and try again
at menu, chose disk utility and once there, find your HD on the left side, select the physical name and erase it as mac journaled
    exit disk utlity
    at menu, choose install OSX
this time, when it asks for a password just hit continue, it will let you complete without a password
you should be able to get into your laptop, now figure out what password you'll be able to use with your kb issue

  • What is the keyboard part number for Portege Z30-A-1E5?

    Hello,
I want the Toshiba Portege Z30-A-1E5, but it is apparently only available to buy from German and Austrian vendors with the QWERTZ keyboard. I would like to buy one and swap over the keyboard to either AZERTY or QWERTY (UK).
However I spoke with a company that does this and they cannot confirm that they can get a part unless I can provide them with a keyboard part number (they also can't give me a quote without it), but this number does not seem to be easy to get a hold of without actually having the computer and taking the keyboard off and looking underneath! I feel a bit nervous spending so much money when there is a chance that I won't be able to swap the keyboard over.
So my question is, can anybody tell me what the keyboard part number is for the portege z30-a-1e5?
Any assistance would be much appreciated!!!!!
    Kate

    Hi Kate
Im wondering why you want to purchase a Portege Z30-A-1E5 which isnt available in UK?
The notebooks are preinstalled with a Windows system in different languages. In case of Portege Z30-A-1E5 available in Germany, the system language would be German.
Also the keyboard supports different layout.
Portege Z30-A-1E5 was equipped with an i7 CPU, 512GB SSD drive and 16GB RAM.
Very similar notebook Portege Z30-A-1D6 was released in UK. Its preinstalled with Windows system in English language and English keyboard layout.
Of course the hardware specifications are a little bit lower (256GB SSD drive and 8GB RAM) but I think this could be upgraded much easier as to replace the keyboard.
However, in case you would purchase the Portege Z30-A-1E5, I recommend you to contact the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country for keyboard replacement. The guys could order the right keyboard from Toshiba and could perform the replacement.
Just one note: the replacement should be done by authorized service provider because of warranty validity. The replacement must be performed by authorized engineer to keep the warranty valid.

  • Help Please - X200 will not boot after Bios Upgrade - keeps asking for power on password

    Hi there,
I am new to this forum and please let me say a big Thank You for your help in advance.
I am using a lenovo thinkpad x200 running windows vista with service pack 1.
The laptop has always been running fine and has never given me any issues. Unfortunately, all this came to an end yesterday when I ran the system assistant which did a round of updates and it prompted me to reflash my bios.
I did what was instructed and closed all open applications and after the laptop restarted, there was a noise from the harddisk (the sound was basically like what happens if the harddisk suddenly loses power). Then, all i got was a black screen, no harddisk acitvity with only the power cable LED and another LED (with the shape of a N tiled at 20 degrees) on.
I searched the forum and did what was suggested in this entry: http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Blank-screen-after-Bios-Upgrade-on-X200/ta-p/29...
This is what I did so far"
I turned off the power, took out the backup battery and waited for about 30 minutes (repeated this step several times, also removing the harddisk) but to no avail.
I removed the RAM and tried booting and there was that characteristic beeping sound.
I replaced the RAM, redid the CMOS clearing, and now there is the Lenovo startup screen. However, there would be an error code 0271 (no date time) and 0251 (something about default configuration). Then, these disappear and all I am left with is the Bios Power On password prompt. Somehow no matter what I type nothing can be input into the field (and I did not create any password as far as I can remember).
I redid the clearing for the power on password by removing the backup battery as suggested at the bottom of this page http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=migr-59377   but it is no use. Each time I restart, even if I press the blue Think Vantage button or F1 or F11, I still get the same 0271 and 0251 error messages and am left with the power on password prompt.
I am really desperate as I really like my lenovo x200 and there is important data on the laptop. I would appreciate any suggestions on how I can solve this. Its amazing how a simple update can turn into such a disaster. Now i know i should never upgrade or update my Bios (or at least proceed with extreme caution).
Anyone can provide some help to get my laptop workin again?
    Thank you very much,
    Mark

  • T61 Power On Password ... can`t reset it

I used to have 2 passwords, one on the hard drive and one for the Power On. But I was never asked about them, every time using the fingerprint. Yesteday I have just re-installed the Windows. I shutted down the laptop and when I need it opened I found that I need to put my passwords. I couldn`t remember the Power On Password.
I searched on the net and found this link
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-59377
    Turn off the computer.
    Remove the battery pack.
    Remove the backup battery.
Turn on the computer and wait until the POST ends. After the POST ends, the password prompt does not appear. The POP has been removed.
Reinstall the backup battery and the battery pack.
I did exactly what they say for reseting the Power On Password. Or maybe I might missunderstand the POST meaning. I thought this means the Icon where I am asked about the Power On Password. Am I right? If not, what does "POST ends" means? Because I am sure that this message for the password won`t dissapear.
Please let me know what should I do in this case.

I'm really sorry,   but we are dealing with the supervisor password, the most secure password on a ThinkPad. The pictures on the site you linked to are unfortunately a little outdated.
You will need to remember this password and delete it in BIOS. The forum rules forbid discussion on this subject. Discussion of the POP, (Power On Password), is permitted as this is openly published for all to see. e.g. the site you linked to.
You may be able to get some assistance from support if you call them.
Unfortunately, in accordance with the rules, I am locking this thread.
I wish you luck and hope you can resolve this.
    Regards

  • Select discontiguous rows in a table with the keyboard

I am using jdk 1.3.1 and have tried this on 1.4 as well. I don't seem to be able to select discontiguous rows in a table using the keyboard. I can Ctrl-click with the mouse to do this but can't find a way to do this with the keyboard. I searched and found somebody asked this same question before and the reply was it works in 1.3.1. I am not seeing this. What could I be missing? The Ctrl-Up and Ctrl-Down keys don't do anything and neither does the spacebar.

I'm pretty sure you can't do this using the standard JTable interface.
You might be able to write your own keyboard listener and fake focus events for up&down arrow, but making this work seamlessly with JTable seemss like it would not be trivial.

  • T43-W7 (new install) Fingerprint Software not interfacing with power-on password

Went through a remarkably painless upgrade of my old T-43 to W7 yesterday.  After the W7 install, I added the Lenovo Toolkit, and let it load the recommended drivers/updates.  Then to regain use of the fingerprint function, I d/l'd the latest version of CSS, which seemed to install just fine (per upgrade recommendations, I uninstalled the fingerprints/power-on password prior to upgrade).
In going through the enrollment process, the only checkboxes that appear above each "finger" are for Windows, not for the power-on password.  The power-on password isenabled and set in BIOS for both the computer and the hard drive (password identical to the Windows User password).  Tried with the Security Chip both Enabled and Disabled, and also tried "Clearing" the security Chip, to no avail.
The result so far is that fingerprint login is working great for W7, but no longer works at all for power on, as it did under W2k.  I have an X301 that I upgraded from Vista to W7 on which all of this works perfectly, so I am pretty sure I know what should be possible, but maybe this is beyond the hardware function of W7 with the T43? Am I missing something?

    Vince69,
Thank you again for your suggestion.  I tried updating the driver using the package you pointed to, and did not have any luck.  Kept getting "Driver not found", (and include subdirs was checked).  Also tried manually dropping into each subir in the file, and still no luck.
I came across an entry in http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprohardware/thread/aa965e55-de21-4dd0-93e2-05e6d14... which seems to address the "Unkown Device" issue.  Go about halfway down the page, and the instructions provided by James Norman seemed to work for me--at least it made the error message go away.
But the original problem of the Fingerprint s/w interfacing with power-on password is still there.  After fixing the device driver problem, I reinstalled Fingerprint Software (I had uninstalled it before fixing the Device Driver issue), and I have the same behavior and selection choices under "Settings" as I had before--none of the settings include anything to do with power-on password.
    Any more suggestions?

  • KeyBoard Power On???

I'm trying to enable the keyboard power on function via password but I can't seem to get it working. I went into the bios and input a password but it doesn't seem to work. The pc still boots via the power button. Any ideas?
    Specs in my sig...

    Read this in the manual:
"These fields specify whether the system will be awakened from Power
saving modes when activity or input signaö of the specified hardware
peripheral or component is dtected. Settings: Enabled, Dissabled.
So it seems like it's not even intended for an alternetive to the power botton.

  • Which RAM can K8N Neo2 Platinum stands + keyboard power on ?

    Hi,
I got a K8N Neo Platinum (ref MS 7030)  to build up a new system. At first I set up my PC with NO NAME RAM (PC2100 - 512 Mo - Cas unknow). Everything was fine.
I tried yesterday  to replace my RAM with a new one : Kingston brand PC3200 512 Mo DDR Cas 3. In the bios, I set  all the relevant parameters to "auto" (ie : the items in the menu "DRAM configuration"). I manage to boot up my XP but after a couple of seconds : windows return a blue screen and reboot automatically. If I switch back to my old PC2100 RAM everything works fine. I tried up the new RAM on another computer and it works fine (I tested it with Memtest)
So, my question is : is there a way to get this RAM work with my mobo ? what shall I check ?
Another prob is how do you active the keyboard power on, it is set up in the bios but doesn't work.
    thank you for your help,
    Stéphane

    Stéphane,
Remove the Power Cord from the Power Supply and the Battery from the Mobo. Leave them both out for a good 15 to 20 minutes before putting them back in again.
    Take Care,
    Richard

    You're very welcome.
I cannot find any official documentation on your specific model or product number on HP's website but I did find a few other 110-005 models.
They all seem to have the same motherboard.
Below is the link to the motherboard specs I believe your PC has.
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-110-000-Desktop-PC-series/5359000/model/5392642/document/c037...
Look under the Jumper Settings section, and read the instructions for Clearing the Password Settings.
