Whats the right Digital Camera to show video Clips on my new iMac OS X Lion

Hi, Can anybody tell me what Type or Model of Digital Camera (with Video Clip Facility) to purchase succesfully down loading on to my brand new iMac OS X Lion?? I'm new to Apple iMac, found out that my 2 year old Samsung camera when downloading Photos and video clips, only shows the photos but not the video clips in my iPhoto folder. the clips are just shown in a black blank square!! Please HELP...Thank You

Christa,
Have you tried using iMovie for your video clips? If you aren't familiar with iMovie here is a link to the iMovie tutorials. I would think your current camera should be just fine.

  • Help me find the right digital camera for my wife for Christmas!

    Hi guys,
I have been scouring Best Buy for days trying to figure out which digital camera to go with.  My wife wants a new one for Christmas, but she doesn't want a traditional point and shoot setup, nor a full DSLR (simply becuase I can't afford it!). Plus, my budget is $200-$300.
I've been looking at a factory refurbished Olympus SP-800UZ model for $230 in the outlet center, but I'm not sure if it's a good camera or not.
So, any ideas of which camera to get her?
She wants something with over 12 MP, something with a nice zoom, and something that has the look and feel of a DSLR.
Any suggestions in my price range?  Thanks!

As to the specific camera you mentioned - yes, it's excellent. Note the Lens Focal Length(s), 35mm equivalent 28-840mm and the 30x optical zoom. Impressive for the price range. You could stop here and be satisfied, assuming you added a memory card since it only has 2mb of internal memory. (don't worry, they are cheap, this one takes SD only).
Still, I would consider what I said above, take a quick look before going the 'Refurbished' route.

  • Need help finding the right digital camera, PLEASE! :0)

I am looking to upgrade from my current digital camera that is abou 6 yrs old.  While it is a good camera, I am not quite happy with the delay when taking pics.  I am looking for a camera that has a really good zoom (10x or greater) and has a fast shutter speed.  I am usually taking photos of my children who area always on the move whether it be sports or school plays.  Thank you in advance for any and all input!

Fast shutter speed or low shutter lag?  There's a difference.  Almost any camera is capable of very fast shutter speeds, but the shutter lag (from pressing the button to actually taking a picture) is a whole different story.
In general, with a few rare exceptions, if you want to reduce shutter lag significantly you need to purchase a DSLR.  Neary all point-and-shoots use an autofocus technique called "contrast detection autofocus" which is very slow.  DSLRs use a much more sophisticated (and faster) autofocus system.
You can sometimes work around this by getting a point and shoot that has manual focus.  Focus manually on the area you want to be in focus (such as the stage at a play) and shoot whenever your subject is in that area.

  • Whats the easiest way to move my iTunes library to my new iMac?

I have it backed up on an external firewire drive.
The 2 computers are linked via a wireless network.
    Thanks

i would not do that wirelessly. first it is less reliable and, second, depending on the size of your lib, it may take ages. instead, connect both macs via ethernet cable or firewire (starting up the "source" Mac in target disk mode).
either drag & drop the entire iTunes folder from the source to the target or use the recommended steps here.

When I try to open the EOS digital solution disk ver 24.1 for my new Canon Rebel T3i camera on my Mac 10.5.8 a notice "this software is not supported by the CPU you are using" comes up.   Do I need this software?  Can I just download the pictures to my Mac without using the Canon software?

When I try to open the EOS digital solution disk ver 24.1 for my new Canon Rebel T3i camera on my Mac 10.5.8 a notice "this software is not supported by the CPU you are using" comes up
You need to contact Canon - or read the software specs - it sounds like the software you got form them is not supported by your computer
    Do I need this software?
Probably not - exactly what about it do you want?
Can I just download the pictures to my Mac without using the Canon software?
Probably - if you are shooting JPEG - launch iPhoto and in the iPhoto preferences set action when a camera is connected to launch iPhoto and connect your camera - iPhoto should launch and you should be able to import
Some cameras need to be set to mass storage mode - read your camera manual for details and procedures
If you are using RAW then your camera needs to be on this list and you need the versions of software noted - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4757 - for older OS versions you can use google to find the list of supported cameras

  • Buffer Hit Ratio % -- Whats the right query ?

    Whats the right query to track Buffer Hit % ;
    Using this :
    prompt BUFFER HIT RATIO %
    prompt ===============
    select 100 * ((a.value+b.value)-c.value) / (a.value+b.value) "Buffer Hit Ratio"
    from v$sysstat a, v$sysstat b, v$sysstat c
    where
    a.statistic# = 38
    and
    b.statistic# = 39
    and
    c.statistic# = 40;
    Buffer Hit Ratio
    99.9678438
    However, using this :
    Select
    Round((Sum(Decode(name, 'consistent gets',value,0)) +
    Sum(Decode(name, 'db block gets',value,0)) -
    Sum(Decode(name, 'physical reads',value,0))) /
    (Sum(Decode(name, 'consistent gets',value,0)) +
    Sum(Decode(name, 'db block gets',value,0)) ) * 100, 4)
    from V$sysstat;
    Comes up as : 67.7069 %
So which is the right one ?
    Thanks.

Well, I recently joined this organisation and that was the script that was used since long to check Buffer Hit Ratio%.
But when I ran a TOAD report, using the other query, the value came up different.
So am confused .. Whats the difference and which is the right one ?
    Try running the following query:
    select
            statistic#, name
    from
            v$sysstat
    where
            statistic# in (38,39,40)
    or      name in (
                    'consistent gets',
                    'physical reads',
                    'db block gets'
;The you will understand the point the previous answer was making. It's a bad idea to rely on things like the statistic# being consistent across different versions of Oracle - names tend to be safer.
But neither query is correct. If you want any sort of vaguely meaningful "buffer cache hit ratio", you should be quering v$buffer_pool_statistics. See also: Re: Testing of buffer cache reveals these results: and http://jonathanlewis.wordpress.com/2007/09/02/hit-ratios/

iphoto will not import my photos from my digital camera because it says it is having a problem downloading my photos. I'm using the same digital camera I have always had and have the current version of iphoto and am using snowleapord 10.6.8. Any thoughts?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Since upgrading to ver. 24, I can no longer view the video clips from Fox News. the clip comes up but will not play. I don't have a problem using IE. I seldom use IE and FF is my main browser. What add-on or control do I need to rectify this situation? My e-mail is [email protected]

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''

'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''

Are you using the Adjust Date and Time option or the Batch Change option?  If it's the former try the latter.  If you get the same results  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import  the same video file and check to see if the same problem persists.
