When a 10" PlayBook tethered with a BB running BBX on LTE

When will a 10" PlayBook be available that can be tethered with a BB running BBX on LTE? * a 7" display is woefully inadequate. * if a 10" is being considered, will it have it's own email? * how soon will it be before we see PlayBook and a BB phone running BBX on an LTE network? Any thoughts, as the competition is blowing BB's shorts off and RIM seems to be standing still - like a deer in the headlights. Should we wait any longer or switch to Android or OSX? PS - when are true innovations from RIM going to materialize - RIM stock has been hammered - and it is endless delays while the completion moves to 2nd and 3rd generations and RIM stands still. RF.

Don't expect a 10" PlayBook in the next year.
Expect all the other things some time in the first half of next year.
RIM's not standing still, they're just working diligently away on the improvements and being rather quiet about it until it's ready.
Feel free to move to Android or iOS (not OSX), but I'm sticking with RIM for a while longer. Judging the PlayBook's future based on what you've seen so far is really just judging RIM's ability to execute, which has been very poor lately. That doesn't mean they can't fix things, or won't, it just means you need to have more patience before you'll see the end results.
Stock? The price of a stock isn't exactly a measure of the company's future success... Apple stock was extremely low many years ago, and most people had written them off. It's 100x as valuable now, and look what they've accomplished.
Also, the "generations" you're talking about are merely incremental steps with an existing product line. There's nothing about iPad2 that deserves the term "second generation", compared to the first. It won't be many years before people will be complaining that the iPad is a legacy product that should be replaced by the next big thing.
RIM, on the other hand, is already moving along to the next generation, with BBX. They're not done; it's a transition and it will continue for a while. Once they are done, however, they'll be back ahead of many of their competitors for a while. That's how these things work usually...

  • "uses a file type that is blocked from opening in this version" error message when opening a *.doc file with Word already running

Several customers running different versions of Office 2011 (14.4.1-14.4.5) on OSX varying from 10.7.5 to 10.9.5, running on various kinds of hardware (iMac/MacBook Pro/MacBook Air) of various ages are having issues opening *.doc files if the Word is already open. The error message that gets displayed is, "XXXX.doc uses a file type that is blocked from opening in this version"
When the customer tries to open the same file via File-Open, she gets "The file is locked for editing. you can open the file as read-only".
When trying to do so, she gets "Word cannot open this document. The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid Word document, or the file name might contain invalid characters".
If Word gets Force-quit, the same document opens without any problems.
    1. Repairing Disk permissions was ran several times. and the volume was found to be OK.
    2. I have noticed that in this scenario either deleting the normal.dotm or com.microsoft.word.plist (~/Library/Preferences) sometimes resolves the issue, sometimes it doesn’t. There is no pattern to follow. All versions of Office are affected, the fully updated and the non-updated ones.
    3. I have tried completely removing the suite using Office 2011 Uninstall.app and/or Remove Office 2011 Uninstaller.pkg, then going through customer's library and manually removing all the Office references.
    4. None of these systems had Office 2008 in the past.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Reboot both the Mac and the server. Word opens .DOC files and Excel opens .XLS files. As you have found out by copying the files to the computer. It is the connection between the 2 computer that is causing the error.

  • When will lightroom support tethered shooting with the NIKON D4S?

when will lightroom support tethered shooting with the NIKON D4S?

Okay so I should be asking Adobe direct, thanks.
I did find that Nikon released the developer software for the D4S back in february so just could'nt uderstand the delay especially as adobe never seems to be late taking my money each month.

  • MBP keeps crashing when using Internet Tethering with iPhone4

I have had 2 crashes today of my new 13" MBP (I7 CPU, 8 Gb RAM, SSD) while using Ethernet Tethering with iPhone4. This is really embarrassing. I have used PC all my life and this is my first Mac. It's been many years since I have seen Blue screen of death on my PC. I have always heard about super reliability of Mac and could not believed my eyes when I saw the black message. Software industry moved long way improving reliability but looks like Mac team is moving in other direction. Unacceptable!

    Same with my MacBook Pro!
I was really upset with this issue.
I got it in early March 2011, just only one month and a few days.
I always connected via USB tethering, it did work.
The problem just started yesterday, it almost 10 times after connect internet.
I called to the technical support and they told me to update to 10.6.7 (Mine was 10.6.6)
Then I updated and it went well (which I found out later that cuz I use the WiFi to connected) for the rest of the day.
But after I came back home and connected via USB , it crashed again.
Then I decided to go to the store at 5th ave. , they checked for a 10 minutes and told me to backup all my data and take it back to them.
Let see what is going to happen next.

  • Aperture 3 tethered with Nikon D300 trouble

I've been having trouble shooting tethered with Aperture 3 and the Nikon D300. It works for a few shots then it jams with the spinning wheel until i have to force quit. Also the inspector column gets messed up with type over type. I'm assuming apple will issue an update for this but i'm not very impressed. I have been using Capture one, trial version in the meantime to get by until a fix arrives and it has been working fine. Nice fast captures and no BS. <Edited By Host>

I gave up with shooting tethered in Aperture 3. I now use Capture one 5 Pro from phase one. I use Aperture for the image adjustment because i like the built in retouch tools and the image management (although my search does not work in Aperture 3, waiting for an update). I'm not impressed with Apple software right now.
Capture one works flawless tethered, the fastest importing i've ever had and didn't take long to get used to the focus tools etc. Try the 30 day free trial and you'll see. When I'm done a shooting session, i just drag the capture folder (with the NEF files) onto a flash drive and import them into Aperture for adjustment.

  • Aperture FREEZES WHILE TETHERED with Nikon D90

I shoot a lot in my studio, so shooting tethered with my Nikon D90 is very useful... UNTIL Aperture freezes every 10-15 captures, so I have to FORCE QUIT it and restart. This, of course, is SUPER ANNOYING, especially when CLIENTS are watching.
Can anyone please enlighten me what's going on, and how I could alleviate the problem? I'm running the latest version of Aperture on a MacBook Pro 17" with a 2.3GHz processor and 4GB of RAM. And I'm usually not running anything other than iTunes alongside Aperture while shooting. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I finally gave up on tethered shooting with my Nikon D3 and Aperture 3. Aperture crashed every fifth shot or so and made me crazy. I tried new libraries, new cables, faster computer, etc. I submitted countless bug reports. I waited patiently for a software fix, because I never had this problem with Aperture 2.
I gave up and rolled back to Aperture 2 on my laptop (which I use only for tethered shooting). Now tethering works perfectly again; it's a software issue. I've had one crash in maybe 2000 shots with Aperture 2, and I can live with that. It's a crummy solution, but it's either that or I buy Lightroom and scrap Aperture for good.
FYI: the raw converter is different in Ap2 than Ap3. What looks good in Ap2 looks underexposed in Ap3 (almost by a stop, looking at the histograms), and the color rendering is quite different between the two. If you try this Ap2 solution out, do some testing before you do a live shoot to make sure you're happy with your results.

  • Bluetooth tethering with Sprint is slowwwwww

Is this normal? I get fast speed on the mobile handset, but when bluetooth tethered with
the Mac...its super slow. I usually get like 700kbs on the handset, now im getting 100kbs the most.

I might have a solution for you, but its a crappy one.
I have the exact same problem with this phone and my new 17 Inch Macbook Pro.
What fixed it for me was using a Bluetooth Dongle instead of the built in Bluetooth. You need to add a second PAN connection in the Network Prefs and repair everything, but when you get it all configured correctly and use the Dongle instead of the built in Bluetooth, I bet it works flawlessly.
There is something wrong with how Apples newer Bluetooth hardware is interacting with this phone. I even went to an Apple Store and tested on another 17 inch Macbook to make sure it wasent just my computer. The older Macbooks worked fine, so its something in the newer hardware.
Call Apple, make them aware that this is an issue with all their newer stuff. Let them (and me) know if using an external bluetooth adapter fixed the issue for you.

  • Tethering with Nikon D600 - no camera found!!!!

This is incredibly frustrating to have a $2,000+ camera that cannot connect to Lightroom.  It really impacts the value of both Lightroom and my camera if they don't talk to each other.  Please advise when you anticipate this being fixed in an update.

    Lee Jay wrote:
Then why did you buy the camera?
Well ... considering Aperture and Capture One both support the D600 for tethering, some folks would think the world's leading graphics and imaging software developer would also have supported the D600 by now ... the idea we should be held hostage by a third party developer to base your equipment purchase decisions is just a tad ridiculous ... sometimes we are in need of upgrading equipment for more reasons than what you or Adobe may consider important ... Adobe is NOT the center of the Universe ...
Adobe should be a bit more responsive to stay current ... if they don't consider it a priority to do so, or feel it is too difficult to offer support for tethered shooting, maybe they should drop tether support all together ... it can't be that difficult to offer the support if others can get the job done ... we are not discussing a topic so complex as manned space flight to Mars ... we simply would like to transfer image data from camera to computer at the point of capture ... a task that is not as complex as some would like us to believe ...
To the OP - You can shoot tethered with Lr on Mac OS X as long as you have installed the current Digital Camera RAW compatibility updates ... then use the included Image Capture app (found in the Applications folder) and then point Lr to a watched folder for auto import (this would be the folder you select in Image Capture) ... you won't be able to trigger the camera from within Lr or adjust camera settings ... but you can get the job done this way until Adobe decides it's time to catch up.

  • Can i shoot tethered with two cameras?

I've read that I can shoot tethered with two cameras in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. When I tether them to my iMac 27", one will work. Then I switch cameras in the "shooting module" to the other body (both bodies are Nikon D800) and then it freezes up. Do they need to be named differently? Is that even possible. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Canon supports two camera attachment for tethering.
    Nikon does not.
    Tethered camera support in Lightroom
    Notes on Nikon cameras
    For all Nikon cameras:
If you trigger the shutter with the tether bar capture button, the image must finish downloading before another photo can be captured. Triggering a capture with the shutter release button on the camera does not have this limitation.
Images do not save to the compact flash card. They are only downloaded to the computer.
Only one Nikon camera can be attached at a time.

  • Reverse tethering with bluetooth

    Hi,
I'd like to use the ethernet/internet connection of my laptop and connect my HTC Desire X via bluetooth to let them share it. People call this reverse tethering.
I found several outdated hints, that no longer work for me.
I tried blueman (uses bluez4) and got my smartphone connected to my laptop via Bluetooth. But some howtos or tools needed bluez5, so that creates a conflict.
Can you tell me, how I can share the internet connection via Bluetooth then?

I didn't know that you were in Spain (your moniker made me think US) .. and there have been reports here of folks successfully tethering with AT&T by some means, so I thought that might be your situation.
My problems seems to be pairing my iPhone 3GS with my Windows 7 notebook. I got a missing driver error and I can't get tethering to work with BT.
That may be your hang up: If this is something Apple needs to provide (or even Microsoft) it may be a bit early since Win7 is pre-release.
According to Apple and clearly explained when activating the share Internet option on the iPhone booth USB and BT connections are supported.
I didn't know BT supported that. Where does Apple document it, since I'd like to figure out how to link my 3GS to my MacBook via BT.

does anyone have any other ideas to try or observations on compatibility between iPhone, Samsung, and HTC for international SMS?
International texting can be a crap shoot. It's not a question of phone compatibility but of carrier interoperability.  I regularly text from my iPhone to my (domestic) colleagues (who all have Samsungs) and to a friend with and HTC (an old one, too) without difficulty.
One last question - I've never deleted my SMS from my friend, and would prefer not to. But it's pretty much the only thing I haven't tried. Does anyone think this might solve the problem eg if there are orphan texts somewhere on the network?
I'm not sure there really is such  thing as an orphan text. If a text isn't deliverable, the carrier deletes it from it's system. SMS is quite a robust system.
There is no general incompatibility between iPhones and other phones as far as texting is concerned. I suspect what you may be seeing is a combination of an old phone and/or an issue with one or both of your carriers. Intermittent technical problems are some of the most difficult to solve.
I have vague memories of people saying that a trailing space at the end of the text made a difference when they had similar problems. It was a couple of years ago. (Honestly, this problem doesn't come up that often!). I don't recall if putting in the traling space helped, or removing it helped. It may also just have been magical thinkning.
    Best of luck.

  • Personal Hotspot - tethering with Orange (France)

Can I use tethering with Orange (France)? Do I have to pay for it? When I go to the tethering Control, it just has a link to Orange but I can't get that to work currently. Is it legal for them to not allow tethering?

Just found out how to pair your iphone with your mac, you basically have to enable the sharing options for bluetooth and internet etc, here is the link to the thread that explained it;

  • HP LASERJET CP1525nw print error when printing online Gmail emails with Google Chrome

HP LASERJET CP1525nw print error when printing online Gmail emails with Google Chrome. Extra large font sizes and weird formatting issues only when printing emails from Gmail within Chrome. No problems when printing the same email from Gmail+Internet Exolorer or Thunderbird. Using the IE Tab extension in Chrome prints the email correctly but the style of Gmail's message window is completely weird ie: formatting bar is spread out vertically instead of horizontally. I believe it is clear that this is an application specific issue between the HP LASERJET CP1525nw printer and Google Chrome + Gmail. This printing scenario does not occur when printing anything else or when printing via another printer. I would appreciate receiving any suggestions to solve this issue.

    Hi AbZu,
You need to contact Google Chromes technical support as this is only an issue with Chrome. You have indicated that the printer functions correctly everywhere else. Check out the link below for Google Chrome technical support. Let me know if you need additional assistance?
