When an Ipad battery is replaced is data lost?

My wife's Ipad, an original, has a battery that won't hold a charge.  If the Ipad is sent to get a replacement, what happens to all of the data she has stored, books, etc.?

It will most likely be removed, I wouldn't rely on the content being still on it - but you should remove all content yourself before you send it in so that emails and any confidential documents etc aren't on it.
You should be able to copy your iTunes purchases from the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases if you are on iTunes 11). You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in a backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand sidebar of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'. When you get the iPad back you can then restore the backup onto the iPad.

When my iPad battery goes below 75% or so Safari stops browsing the Web on 3G and displays a "Server not responding" message. Charging the iPad fixes the problem temporarily. Any idea?

First thing to try is a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that doesn't help try letting the iPad run down the battery until it shuts off on its own. Then plug in the wall charger and recharge. If that doesn't help it might be time for a trip to Apple Service.

Transferring your prepaid cellular data account depends on your carrier. AT&T lets you move it yourself when you go to Cellular Data in Settings and log into your account with your previous AT&T user name and password. For iPads with Sprint service, you can set up an account on the new iPad and contact Sprint Customer Care (888-211-4727 and go through the menus) to deactivate the old plan and get credit for unused service. For Verizon, call the company’s customer service number for mobile broadband support (800-786-8419) and ask to have your account transferred.

My iPad battery getting low quickly when im playing games. What should i do ?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Original iPad, 18 months old, battery failing: replace battery or replace iPad?

At this point in Apple's product life cycle, can I expect the greatest utility by a) replacing the battery in my original iOS 5 iPad,  getting another 2 years use out of an end of life system, b) buying a refurbed iPad 2, c) buying a new iPad 3, or d) limping along until the next-gen iOS 7 iPads arrive, probably in October 2013?
At this time I can't say whether ios7 will run on the iPad 2 or iPad 3. Assuming the iPad 2 has no upgrade path, I don't think that's a viable option. I would expect the iPad 3 will upgrade to its 7, so that's a viable choice, but it's about $ 300 more than the cost of replacing the battery, and it leaves me with an unusable but otherwise perfectly good iPad.
Replacing the battery costs $110 from Ap,ple, or about $30 if I dare to do it myself. This presumably would give me another 2 years of battery life at low cost.
My concern is more with long-term support for iOS 5. I had a wake-up call a few months ago when one of my daily go-to apps, Zite, updated in the App Store to iOS 6 only. CBC's news app also went iOS 6 a few days ago. I still use the iOS 5 version of these apps, but the underlying online services may change, rendering the apps unusable. Both apps still appear as updates in the App Store, each with a note indicating they are iOS 6-only updates. How long until the rest of my favorite apps go iOS 6 only in the App Store?
If I lose the iOS 5 version of an app, either through a crash, OS corruption or accidental deletion, or I haven't properly backed them up (or more likely forgotten where I backed them up!), I'm hosed, because the original iOS 5 apps are no longer available from the App Store.
Gotta end this post here, because my battery's down from 35% to 10% in the 40 minutes or so it took me to write this post. Any suggestions are welcome!

Replace the battery and then sell the iPad.

Every backup replaces the old one, so, unless you included the backup folder in your computer backup routine, you can't get back your calendar info.
The only time iTunes will not replace a backup is, when you use it to restore from, this one will stay in the backup list in iTunes.

  • Offline form in iPad DPS App that stores data and then sends when connected to internet

    Hi there,
I've built an "app" using InDesign and DPS. Great, whiz bang 360 spins, video, etc, etc but at the end I would like to have a form to record the users experience on the ipad or to record their experience of an event where the iPad was used. I have created a form in Acrobat XI, exported to FormCentral as a trial, linked to the form using a web frame within InDesign and then exporting out with DPS. App works fine, can see form, enter data and submit, check data via FormCentral admin system, all good.
However, is it possible to create the same app that works identically offline? I know the whiz bang stuff will work as it's built into the standalone app. I guess the html form will need to be stored locally, when a user submits the form it needs to write to the iPad and store locally and if/when the iPad makes a connection to the internet it can send the stored local data upto FormCentral for processing. The form would be filled in by multiple users at different times.
From trawling the web I can see forms can write locally to the iPad but then I also see pages of code, my eyes glaze over and I run for the hills. I just wondered if there was an easy solution? If not, can this be raised as an item in the wishlist for both FormCentral/DPS/Indesign? A nice clicky interface for us "non-coding" designers.
Any help would be most appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Rog.

    Hi Randy,
Thanks for coming back to me on this. Instead of a html form, can a pdf form embedded within a DPS app work?
I see that pdf forms can be filled in offline and data sent went back online but unsure as to whether this approach will work within a DPS app.

Ive noticed recently that my iPad battery is rapidly draining.  I've even noticed a 20% decrease just overnight while locked, which has NEVER happened.  I've googled and research and tried everything possible.  So does anyone have some options I might be missing?
