When are new Windows phones coming?

Have an HTC 8X running Windows 8.1 that recently started having really bad screen glitching issues.  For example, typing one letter enters another and one part of the screen is just dead to touch.  Usually takes 3-4 tries now just to type in the unlock password.  I could a) get a new upgrade (which I'm due), b) get a new screen from a 3rd party for $50, c) get a warranty replacement from Verizon for $100 or d) step down to my old HTC Trophy.  Prefer option A (to get a new Windows phone), but no idea if and when Verizon will be offering them.  Don't want to waste upgrade on an old model phone with new ones coming out soon.  Anyone have any insight?  Prefer not leave Verizon, but considering it since I'm in a crappy state right now.

I thought I was the only one with this problem. My Nokia Icon is possessed! I can barely text someone, unlock the screen or search the internet. My phone even calls people by itself. I have tried soft reset (several times a day) and finally a hard reset...didn't help at all. I, myself, have thought about your option a,c, and d but had not heard of option b. Please let me know what you decide. I can't take another day of this, especially when my hubby has the same phone and his is perfectly fine.

  • When Will A New Windows Phone Be Released on Verizon?

When will a new windows phone be released on verizon? What phone will it be? What are you using to get this information?

Let this be known, there is absolutely no way in hell that I'm playing the same ******** VERIZON GAME with the same rules they made up last year that include:
    A. Making thier customers wait a year and half, that's is literally 4-18 months longer than any other carrier worldwide
    B. Limit the feature set so much that other carriers phone of basically the same model seem to be rooted (no tether, no screen shots, etc.)
    C. Release it with almost zero support, the best I could find was a verizon support tech that guessed and fumbled around because there was no training for the trophy's and almost a month after getting it no one could help me get it to work right with voicemail, MM text sending and receiving or even getting it to purchase apps from the marketplace (it would ask for a valid credit card for my account and I had vaild credit cards in every one of Microsoft Live ID accounts) leading me to this
    D. I finally figured out a large part of the issue, would have never even happened if Verizon would have provided instructions on something the size of a post it note, for a customer setting up their inital account when very first logging into the phone... Seriously without exageration, after loading and resetting the phone 4 times over a 2 month period both at the instruction of techs that "knew" this issue, and that was 2 of them after talking to about 8 support techs on the phone and going to 3 different stores 2 to them 3 times each (once with 3 of them working on it for about an hour and 15 minutes AND NO ONE was able to ID a large part of the issues I was having as being my Zune account, Xbox Live account, Certified Partner Account and Live/Hotmail email accounts all needed to be created using the same user ID and password and that's the one you need to use to initially set the phone up...
I understand Verizon had a hard-on for Microsoft for partnering up with ATT early on, but hell, with the lack of marketing, support, customer service and general all round **** poor attidude...
Seriously?? ***... The best answer is a god **** guesstimate... Anyway, if I even smell any of that same ******** this time (and yes, that is a legal name for use given how Verizon treats the Windows Phone platform and the customers that want to use it) I'm totally ABVing it (that would be Anyone but Verizon)

  • White iPhone 4 or New Windows Phone 7

I been holding out on an iPhone 4 because I want the white one, so does my girlfriend, well my iPhone 3GS White is getting pretty old now and we are considering getting the new Windows Phone 7 at the beginning of November. Anyone have an idea or any clues from the net when the white iPhone 4 is coming out? Or should I just say screw it and get the Windows Phone 7? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, apparently I am. So nothing official from them yet? I'm just a bit torn, I've waited a few months already and now if I get the iphone now I will totally NOT be eligible for upgrade for iPhone 5 in June. I do prefer the white one though. I read some where about Walmart getting a shipment of white iPhones for sale. Maybe soon?

  • Thinking about selling Iphone 5 for new WIndows Phone

So I am a new Iphone 5 user. Went from a Motorola Droid to an Apple product. I must say I like the Iphone 5, but I like the new windows phone. I have even thought about selling my Iphone 5 to get the Windows phone. ANyone have any thoughts about the windows phones compared the the Iphone 5?

As a past user of an iPhone 4 and a Windows Phone 7.5 device, I would say that the user experiences are similar, with the exception of far fewer apps being available for Windows Phone.  However, there are several apps available and I could find a livable level of satisfaction with the app selection.  There are fewer accessories available for any Windows Phone device (or any other phone, for that matter) than for the iPhone.  One thing that I think that has changed for Windows Phone 8 is that users will no longer sync through Zune on the PC.  I'm not up-to-speed with this part, so if this is important to you, you might want to research this further.
The other thing that may impact your user experience would be how integrated into Apple's ecosystem you are.  Even though you said that you just got the iPhone 5, I don't know if you are an iPad or iPod user that relied on iTunes for content management.  Your other ecosystem concerns would include whether or not you use iCloud for media storage and whether or not your friends send you text messages in iMessage.  If none of these things are big deals for you, then a switch to a different mobile OS may be fine.
Your other differences are your hardware differences.  You didn't name a specific Windows Phone device, but I think that every Windows Phone that is coming out is larger than an iPhone 5.  Were you attracted to the thin and light profile of the iPhone 5, or did you think that the screen was too small?  The cameras on the iPhone 5 and the upcoming Windows Phone devices are said to rival each other, so that probably won't be a major consideration for you.
There are many other things to consider, but hopefully my questions will remind you of what you consider to be important, and you can go from there.  I always recommend hands-on time with a new device that you are considering, so go to stores to try out Windows Phone devices to get more of a feel for them.

  • Fading background when opening new window

Fading background when opening new window. I would like to do a "lightbox" effect that on mouseclick opens a new window over the top of the other windows(s) that has a close button to take the user back to the previous page. I have viewed this in the past, but now cannot find examples. If you have URLS of examples, or better yet, code to make this happen, that would be helpful. Thoughts and opinions on why I shouldn't use this effect are also welcome!

If you need a lightbox effect, use one the freely available "lightbox" or modal window scripts.
Fancy Box is well documented and works with images, text, iframes, Google Maps, media, etc..

  • How can I disable the event sound played when a new window is opened?

When Firefox starts, or when a new window is opened there is an annoying click.
    How can I disable this?
The only way I have been able to stop it is by disabling all event sounds from the control panel but I'd rather just disable this particular sound.

No, it's Windows XP. Hmmm, I don't know! I only started noticing it recently and as far as I remember, the only new add on is NoScript. I found the event that was being triggered (Start Connection) and disabled the sound in Windows. So the problem is solved in that I don't have the annoying sound ... but don't know why it started and hope nothing sinister is going on.

  • New Windows Phones

Really hoping that Verizon picks up on their statement for LTE Windows Phones now that two were just announced for their biggest competitor...I have been a perfectly happy Verizon customer for years and am actually considering jumping ship to grab a Nokia Lumia 900 or an HTC Titan 2.  Anyone else in the same boat?

I started with Verizon with a windows Samsung SPH-i700. I had it for like 5-6 years. Loved it. I tried the Omnia then the Omina 2. My Omnia 2 doesn't work right as the hang up button contact tends to have a intermittend short, so it wants to shut down all the time. So, I resorted back the the Omina. I tried ATT with the Iphone and the one app Iphones doesn't have was "bounce"...I dropped it and it didn't bounce, it smashed. ATT wanted another $400 for a new one as ATT did not have insurance plans back a few years ago when Iphone first came out. It was cheaper for me to pay the fees and come back to Verizon. I visit different Verizon stores and they say the only Windows phone they have is the Trophy but don't have it on display? They say the Windows phones don't sell. WHAT WINDOWS PHONES? How do you buy something you don't see on display, unless you do your research online? I keep getting told how much better the Android phones and Iphones are in these stores... I tell them really?! I want a phone that can handle contacts and calender. Windows is the only OS that I can put a contact's spouse and kid's name under the contact along with many other field of info. Every other OS you have to resort to the "notes" field for additional info. ***? How hard is it to add more fields for more info on a contact? I do not care if these other phones have 1,000,000 apps and can play the latest blah, blah, blah games.... I am sick of the brainwashing out there. Nokia Lumina 900 is the Windows phone to have. WHY WON'T VERIZON CARRY IT!? Do they have deal with Apple that they cannot carry competitive Windows phones?

  • Session loss when a new window pops up

    Hi there
I'm facing a problem with sessions.I'm using IE browser and a Tomcat server version 5.0.* . I have to use sessions in order to pass my variables through out my application, but when i click a link that pops up a new window and then close the poped up window, my session and all the registerd variables in my main window, are being lost. The funny thing is that the same application on another PC with the same developing tools, browser and server, is working just fine. I even copied and pasted the working-well Tomcat over my Tomcat and the problem is still there. The fact is that i can't understand where the problem is: in my Tomcat, in IE's settings? Please replay.Anything will help me!
    George
PS: the application i mentioned, is exactly the same in any of the testing PC's. I also have to mention that i use Eclipse 3 for the developing of my application.

Since it works fine in other computers, the problem seems came from the IE setup.
normally, the seesion will still keep alive, even the pop-up window being closed. You can do
another test in Netscape to see what's going on. And also, did you use Javascript to open the new window? Check the javascript code (using windows.focus() or some other code which may
aftect the default behavior) . Write some log information to record the session status change.

  • How do I forces FF 23 to open maximized, not full screen, but maximized, both on start up and when opening new windows?

Firefox 23 does not open maximized nor does it open new windows maximized. As such I have to manually maximize each window.
Run is set to maximized in the shortcut properties, yet it still opens in a normal or less than normal size window.
Older versions open maximized with no problem. I have Profile manager configured so that I can run multiple versions at the same time and everything opens maximized except FF 23.
is there some setting in the about:config interface or is this a genuine BUG in the latest version? Any help would be appreciated greatly.
Also can you tell me how to modify the title bar text/icon/etc as well as where to find the icon or portable network graphic (png) file for the main-window.ico or direct me to appropriate knowledge base articles for modifying both.

My localstore.rdf file was fine. The problem was caused by two plug-ins that Mozilla shows as being compatible with Firefox 23, when in fact they both cause undesired side effects.
Maybe the employees of Mozilla should actually test plug-ins before they allow them to be available for download or worse yet, recommend them.
And if any of the in-house developers had a clue they would stop removing old lines of code from Mozilla products so that new versions of Firefox would still be compatible with older plug-ins and extensions people would still like to use.
I had to remove recommended extensions and copy code from older versions of FF and NS and modify settings in about:config to allow older extensions to work to correct the problems and get Firefox to work the way I need it to. All in all I have over forty hours invested in modding FF at this point just to have it function the way it used to.
Unfortunately, since I still can't get buttons designed to open .URL links from the toolbar to work as they did in the past I have a feeling I'll be returning to older code sources to find more answers.
Lucky for me that I have every browser going back to NCSA Mosaic available to me, so every bit of code from the present till back before Mozilla existed is include in my knowledge base. It's a shame Mozilla doesn't keep such a reference available for it's users or apparently it's in house developers and staff.
Maybe I'll even re-enable the splash screen for Firefox since the only available plug-in for that doesn't appear to work with Version 23 either, even though once again the compatibility adviser says it does
It's truly sad that the result of Marc Andreessen's and James Clark's work and Netscape in general became the spawning Mozilla. What used to be a great browser and an acceptable replacement for Netscape, has become a joke. So much for all the hard work and effort made by Dave Hyatt and Blake Ross as well.
I guess that's what one should expect from the developers that are a part of generations X, Y, and Me. The attitudes associated with those generations show in the lack of thought, consideration, and ingenuity that have been a part the last several versions of FF, not to mention, the copying of features from Chrome.
When the only original idea to come out of Mozilla of late is to remove or disable features people have used and counted on for decades, the I don't care, I don't know, and me, me, me attitudes of so many from the aforementioned generations is truly evident in the last twenty incarnations of Firefox. Not to mention the attitudes and unhelpful nature of the responses users encounter when asking for help.

  • New window will not open even when "open new window in tab" is checked

I cannot open a new window even when i have the option "Open new window in tab" checked.
Firefox will NOT open a new window under any circumstances.
Also, when I quit Firefox, the system thinks that multiple instances of FF is running but they are invisible to me.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Acrobat Pro XI frequent crashes when using New Window feature

As a lawyer using Acrobat Pro XI to review legal documents, I find the New Window feature invaluable since it lets me view different parts of the same document at the same time.  However, when I use this feature I encounter frequent crashes, more often if I insert a comment in one of the windows.  Inserting those comments are very important to me.  Is there any way to avoid the crashes while using the New Window and Comment features together?

  • "SyntaxError: unterminated literal string" message received when opening new window or tab

I receive this message every time I open Firefox the first time online, and with each new window or tab I open after that. I don't receive the message more than once if I only work in the original window. Other than the usual updates that always go on, I haven't added or deleted anything from my system.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Not sure exactly when.

I found the extension causing the problem. It is MyPoints Point Finder 1.300.306. I tried updating it, but there are none available. It is currently disabled. Would removing it be a better strategy, or leave it disabled until an update is available?

  • Why tabs sometimes when opening new window go beyond it?

When clicking on that area http://awesomescreenshot.com/0f8ccqv3e
New window opened with tabs showing like this http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/7799/20110503090301.png
This looks so not beacause of my screenshot. The upper part of the tab literally goes beyond.

    See also:

    *1: current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab;
For links opened via JavaScript you can look at this pref:
Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

  • Hiding/changing URL when opening new window

Any guidance on the following would be greatly appreciated.
I have a club website which is hosted on my freespace and addressed by redirection.
All the main pages show the URL at the top with the name of the club - as I would want.
However, if I set a link within one of those pages to open in a new window, then the URL shown at the top is the url to the page's location in my freespace and not the club.
Is there any way to specify what is shown in the URL area when opening a link in a new window in this way?
    Thanks for any thoughts.

I have the the same problem bulvide has with version 3.6.9 (and with 4 beta 5). Instead of the gray page problem, now sometimes a new window won't open after clicking on the firefox icon on the taskbar (in the case of windows 7 64 bit, middle clicking, in vista left clicking). This only happens when I am watching a flash video stream from ustream for example.
A temporary fix for the problem is to disable OOPP in about:config. You can do this by typing about:config in the URL bar, typing dom.ipc in the filter bar and toggling the 4 true values to false.
Unlike bulvide, I don't have an issue with the speed of flash.

  • How to duplicate browsing windows, instead of reopening the home page, when opening new windows?

When any new browser windows are opened in Firefox, it reopens and re-reopens and re-re-reopens the home page instead of opening ANY new copies of ANY of the browser windows from which the command "New Window" was originally made.

    Try this extension:
