Sounds like your iPhone was hacked/modified/jailbroken to work
with other than the original carrier and the update to iOS5 has
relocked your iPhone to the original carrier.
Where did you acquire this iPhone?
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>Carrier?
Have you tried removing the current SIM, cleaning the
contacts, and reinstalling the SIM?

I am not exactly sure why the menu did not detect the password change or if it was stored incorrectly after you changed it? I have a 16 GB iPhone 4S. Tonight when I went to sync with my iTunes on my MacPro, I received an error message that the iPhone could not be sync'ed because it needed 6.25 GB more space. I still have 2.5 GB free. I sync'ed last night fine. How could I need 8.75 GB (6.25 +2.5) more space on a 16GB iPhone. I have added nothing but audio podcasts to my iTunes library on my Mac in the last two days and I have not change the sync setting on my iPhone. Something has gone haywire. Any ideas. I resolved this after some analysis. Turnes out that iTunes was not recognizing that my music was already installed on my iPhone, so when I tried to sync, iTunes was attempting to load all my music a second time, and there was not enough room on my iPhone for that. I did a restore from backup today and this appears to have resolved the problem. I initiatied an iTunes sync and it worked fine. Not sure where the glitch was. Could have been in the latest update of the iTunes software. Not sure. Anyway, I'm good now.

Generally this is a sign that the iPhone had previously been
hacked/modified/jailbroken and the update relocked it to the
original wireless carrier. If this is the case, only that wireless
carrier can unlock your iPhone. You must contact them to see
if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
Where did you acquire this iPhone?
What wireless carrier did you use before this problem?
Does the app Cydia appear on your iPhone?
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

When I went to back up my MacBook to an external hard drive, an error message said the backup could not be completed because an error occurred when creating the backup folder.

I used a backup hard drive for my previous PC, but I have not done a backup on my MacBook yet, which I got this summer. When I hooked it up to my computer, it started the backup fine, and then my computer went to sleep, and so I closed it to let it back up overnight. The next morning I saw that it had been interrupted, and that an error occurred; the backup could not be completed because there was an error in creating the backup folder. I'm not sure what to do now because my data has been erased off of my hard drive now to prepare for the backup on my MacBook, but will I be able to use this hard drive again? Will the error message always come up? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

I am always suspicious of using a different OS to the one that was used to run the backup.. ie if you used Snow L to backup then there is absolutely nothing wrong with using SL to restore.

I cannot find any reference to the error code you are getting..
My recommendation would be to try it on a different computer.. restore the whole backup to an external drive large enough to accept the whole backup.

The messages are saying you have a 2G iPOd. Those canonly go to 4.2.1. Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPOd. A 32 can be either. To further identify yours:

Another way besides tapping the text box is to tap the screen to bring the keyboard up, tap the .?123 key, then tap the undo key to bring the erased dictation back.
