When browser refreshes, can it still remember where you were?

As we are all probably well aware, when you switch from a browser (or any app) to another app, the browser will very often refresh when you go back.
I have two questions regarding this:
1. Is this a hardware RAM bottleneck? Or purely a software protocol designed to save power? Or both?
2. If it has to refresh, is it possible for the browser to remember how far down the web page you were scrolled, how much you were zoomed in, and if you were watching a video, at what time you left off? If you can’t keep it from refreshing, this would at least save the time of trying to remember and get back to where you were.
I already submitted this suggestion to Apple feedback, but I wanted to see if anyone could tell me if there is some major technical problem with this suggestion, because it seems like if it was possible it would have already been implemented.

App store doesn't remember where you were in list, would be easy to fix.

Here's my example: I have a Spin Play subscription and love it, so I figured I'd look what other magazines had Ipad versions. I didn't want to limit it to just ones I could think of, so I searched the App Store for "magazine," which obviously brings up a list of thousands of apps. If I'm on the 8th page of them and download one, it kicks me out to the home screen. When I go in App Store and hit Back, it goes to page 1 of the list and I have to keep pressing Next. It's unnecessary and frustrating, there should at least be an option of having it remember. Fyi I'm uptight about shutting down every app I'm not using, as opposed to just backing out, so I hopefully have memory to spare.
Anyone else having this issue? It would be a really easy thing for Apple to change

Go to system preferences, mission control, and unselect "Show Dashboard as a Space". While you're there, you may want to make dashboard set to a hot corner "Hot Corners" button at the bottom.

Is there a way to get Aperture to remember where you left off?

Do you create a new tab when you open a new project or album? Hold down the Cmnd key as you click on a project or album, you get a new tab in the browser. Aperture remembers where you were in each tab.

Does the iPhone remember where you left off in podcasts? What's the latest

The music player in my Nokia phone only remembers where you left off for the last track-- switch tracks or turn off the phone and it returns you to the beginning of the track! It's absolutely annoying and renders the podcast playing feature almost useless.
I've been looking at the iPhone and iPod Touch and found a bunch of threads in the forums that indicate that both have had similar problems (though there are some workarounds).
Has Apple fixed this? Do the iPhone and iPod Touch now remember where you left off for EACH podcast you were listening to?
It would be wonderful if that were the case and might stop my fence sitting on buying one!

I've had my iPhone for several months and this is the most aggravating issue. Before finding this thread I had no idea why or when it would lose it's place. If it's only happening when you synch that's good to know, but not much of a work-around.
Where the iPhone had my old iPod beat was the fact that my podcasts were always magically up to date. This is because the iPhone is always getting plugged in to charge and synch while the iPod stayed in the car all week.
I hope someone will post back with more details for work-arounds.
Better yet, I hope Apple fixes this bug. AND, makes navigating within long audio files (i.e. podcasts) as elegant as it was on my old clickwheel iPod.

CSM - insert header source ip - lost when browser refresh

inserting the client's ip address into the http header using a CSM works fine. But after a a browser refresh, the information is lost.
Is ther any way to overcome this?

do you have configured 'persistent rebalance' ?
If yes, I would suggest to capture a trace to see what exactly occurs in the network when your browser does a refresh.

Dynamic Text not loading when browser refreshes

Hi All,
For some reason, when the user refreshes the browser, the 'Welcome to our ....' dynamic text in the middle of my swf doesn't load in IE 8. I think this is somehow cache related maybe?
I'm using a preloading container .swf to load the main movie swf, Interactive_StrategyMap.swf (located here: http://precorp.coop/fileshare/map/Interactive_StrategyMap.swf).

Smartview error when submitting/refreshing: "The cell or chart that you are trying to change is protected"

Hello! Users are trying to submit data within a form, but they get the following error message:
<<The cell or chart that you are trying to change is protected and therefore read-only. To modify a protected cell or chart, first remove protection using the Unprotectect Sheet command (Review tab, changes group). You may be prompted for a password.>>
They get the same error when they try to refresh the form.
The form is part of a task-list, but is not supposed to be protected. Actually they open the form from an empty excel workbook, so I don't understand what's the difference with other forms, where they don't have this message.
Do you have an idea of what is triggering it?

Users were in Smartview 11.1.2.1. The issue described above has been identifed as a software defect an it has been logged as bug 16017903 by Oracle. To solve this issue download and install Patch 16238382, or alternatively unistall Smartview and install version 11.1.2.2.310.

I cannot logoff from yahoo email account in the Firefox Browser. I have installed another browser and can successfully logoff. Do you have a fix so I can continue using Firefox?

I have tried several times to reboot but when I logon to Firefox then to my Yahoo email account it will not let me logoff. I have installed a different web browser and my yahoo email account works fine including a successful logoff. Help!

That problem can be caused by the Yahoo! Toolbar that extents too much downwards and covers the top part of the browser window and thus makes links in that part of the screen not clickable.

Playlist: How does your ipod remember where you are?

You have a long playlist. You want to pause and have it resume a few days later. How do you deal with this ipod dilemma? Usually I click on the ipod every day, to refresh it, if you will. But just now, with my new nano, I attached the cord to charge-- just for an hour -- and ejected and it was not paused to my last song. very annoying. Gone, had to search for where it was.

I don't know what you mean by "click the iPod". I do know that navigating away from the playlist, and, if I recall, syncing, will lose your place.

Image does not appear when publishing...does it matter where you import audio?

I have an image on my slide and when I preview the slide it appears correctly, when I hit F10 to preview next 5 sldies or publish file it does not appear. I have imported audio to the slide not to an object. I am wondering if this matters? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I have (sorry forgot to add that). I was switched around and finally I was told I would be put through to a supervisor but after being on hold for about 10 minutes the phone went dead, I did not lose connection so I do not know if I was hung up on or there was some technical difficulty. I called again yesterday and did in fact speak with a supervisor for Account Security but he told me he did not know why it was happening and put me through to a different number but that ended up not being any helpful either. That's when I decided to give it a shot on here!

New itunes can not remember where my data is

this has got to be the stupidest version of itunes (should be i lost) yet. iLost can no longer remember where my data is along with one its crashes that wiped 4tb of media (yes thankfully it was backed up, you know how long it takes to transfer that much). The media is on a 8Tb network drive, i have to reset in prefs where it is at least every other hour which means I have no access while it "updates" its library and puts things where they belong. That also means that I have to put my tv shows (purchased through itunes) back in the tv folder, itune for some reason itXXX thinks they're home movies!!!!!!!!!
it resides on my macpro with 16gb ram. it has in the past worked as the media server for the house, now it's just a pretty piece of metal most of the time.

Yes, problems with networked drives are common on the forum. Perhaps something to do with sleep/power saving features. I don't know there are any alternatives. There's something called Songbird or something like that , but I haven't heard of a lot of people switching to it. When iTunes came out a decade or so ago there wre more players, but a free application put an end to shareware competitors.
I can't help you on the renaming thing. I still use iTunes 7.5 and have never had any issues like that (KISS).
