When Canon MP460 is shut off, Airport Extreme fails to detect it!

There is no problem detecting the printer initially. However, if it gets turned off and on again, AE does not recognize it has a USB printer attached to it! The only solution I have is to restart the AE - then it realizes it has a printer attached. Any ideas about this one guys?? Thanks a bunch,
Adam
Airport Extreme, Canon MP460

I have the same issue with a Canon i9900. Does not
recognize printer unless I unplug the USB cable after
it is turned on.
Unplugging and plugging the USB cable back in does not help. The base station only seems to detect the printer if I restart it. I have no idea why turning the printer on and off would cause this to happen. Is there a more official way to submit bugs like this to apple?

  • Turn off airport extreme

How can I turn off airport extreme during certain times of the day so my kids can't use wifi?

You might want to take a look at the Timed Access settings in AirPort Utility, which will allow you specify the times each day that everyone will be allowed to connect to the network.
Or, you can individualize this, and the set up individual "rules" for each of the kids' devices that allow them to connect using certain times each day....while your devices have unlimited access.

  • Can't print to a Canon MF 4690 wirelessly through Airport Extreme

I cannot seem to figure out why this isn't working. I just replaced a Brother printer (7 years old) that worked great wirelessly through my Airport Extreme with a Canon imageCLASS MF 4690. I found, downloaded and installed the drivers for it (10.6), but when I set up the printer, I can only print using a generic PCL driver. When I choose the Canon UFR driver, I get an error every time, when printing wirelessly or when directly connected via USB. I can see the Canon in the Airport Utility, but it won't print.
    What can I do?

Welcome to the discussions, Joe P.!
    +What can I do?+
You might try Apple's Printer Troubleshooting Guide to see it that provides some help.
Keep in mind that not all printers are compatible with the USB port on the AirPorts, so that may possibly be the case here if the troubleshooting steps don't provide a solution. Apple does not furnish a list of compatible printers, so unfortunately it's a process of experimentation to see your device will work with the AirPort Extreme.

  • Can Drobo off Airport Extreme be used as time Machine disk?

I have my Drobo hung off my Airport extreme so both my powerbook and iMac can access files off it. I would like to choose it as my backup disc for Time Machine but it is not seeing it when I try and point it at it.

backups to NAS devices are not officially supported. the only exception is Time Capsule and it also works with drives directly attached (via USB) to AEBS. anything else is unsupported. you can try the following hack but you do it at your own risk and with no guarantees of success or assurance that this ability will not be broken by some future update from apple

  • Trying to connect Canon MF6540 via IP to Airport Extreme

I recently purchased an Airport Extreme so I could use the USB port to attach a hard drive to run Time Machine for my two laptops wirelessly. I wanted to connect my Canon MF6540 printer via IP (like I'd done with my old Linksys router).
Unfortunately I've called both Canon and Apple support and neither can help me.
According to the printer network settings the Airport Extreme is not automatically assigning an IP address and I don't know enough about networking to manually assign one.
    Can anyone help me?

I don't know how to ping on a mac - could you help?
Go to your Utilities folder and launch Network Utility. You'll see a tab labeled "ping". Enter the address of the printer and hit the button.
You can also use the Terminal program. It's also in the Utilities folder. Type "ping 10.0.1.200" or whatever address your printer uses. Control-C to quit.
Either of these methods should return something like the following:
    Johns-iMac:~ john$ ping 10.0.1.100

10.0.1.100 is the address of my printer. If you're not getting anything like the above there's something wrong with your network connection so that's what we have to fix first.
Wireless security has been turned off but I don't know if that matters since I'm connecting directly via a Cat5 cable.
    Correct. Doesn't matter.
Canon's setup utility is only for PC... so I'm out of luck on that.
Are you sure about that? Check the following - they're labeled "drivers" but make sure they're not something you need:

  • Can I create a unique subnetwork when extending a wireless network using Airport Extreme?

My office building has an Airport Extreme to provide wifi to our individual suites.  I would like to create a sub-network using my Airport Extreme for my suite only that uses the wifi signal from our office building and provides internet to the computers (both wired and wireless) in my suite but have it protected so that other suites in my building can't see my computers.  Is this possible and how do I do it?  I have currently set up my Airport Extreme in wifi-mode "extending a previous wireless network" and have the router with its unique router name.  But once I extended the wireless network, I could not find the network name of my router, only the office name (the one I was extending).  The computers connected via ethernet to my Airport have internet access but none of my wireless computers see my airport name, it sees the office building network name.  I'm assuming they are connecting to my Airport since the signal level is much higher than before and it appears that my Airport is rebroadcasting the network name of my office building.  Is there a way to have my Airport broadcast its unique identifier for wifi, still connect to the internet via wifi signal to the Office building airport and maintain segregation between my computers and the rest of my office building?
Also, when I use the Airport Utility on my Iphone, I see the internet -> the office airport extreme -> and then 2 different base stations connected in a Y.  Mine and my neighbors (who is probably doing the same thing as I am).  But there is a dotted line to my base station, does that mean I'm connected to the internet via my neighbor's airport?
    Any thoughts?

I would like to create a sub-network using my Airport Extreme for my suite only that uses the wifi signal from our office building and provides internet to the computers (both wired and wireless) in my suite but have it protected so that other suites in my building can't see my computers.
It is not possible to configure a single Apple AirPort router in this manner using wireless only, but it would be possible to do this with a single AirPort if you connect your AirPort Extreme to the "main" router using a wired Ethernet connection.
As for wireless only....you could probably do what you want by using two Apple routers....an AirPort Express to join the wireless network and provide an Ethernet signal to the AirPort Extreme's WAN port. Then the AirPort Extreme could then be configured to provide a separate network using a different subnet.
Users on the "main" network would not be able to "see" any devices on your "private" network and vice versa.
I use the two router set up all the time at hotels that only provide a wireless signal. The first Express "joins" the wireless network and feeds an Ethernet signal to the second AirPort which is configured to "create a wireless network" in router mode.
This way, I can connect multiple devices to my "private" network, but only pay the hotel for one connection since the hotel router only "sees" the AirPort Express that joins the network.

  • How to move external hard drive (time machine) off airport extreme network?

For several years now, I've had an external hard drive connected to my airport extreme and it's servered as an awesome external back-up of my Macbook via Time Machine.  However, now I've had to remove the external hard drive from my network (that's a whole other story).  Anyway, when I connect the external hard drive to my MacBook, it doesn't recongize it as my Time Machine back-up. It is still looking for "My Book" on my network, which obviously doesn't exist anymore.  Can I simply re-direct it to "my book" that is now connected via USB to my computer?  Do I have to start over?  If possible, I'd like to keep the back-ups I already had and simply continue with my new back-ups.  Please advise!  Thanks!

First thing to do is go to the Pondini tips page, then follow the link to his full TM site for all the details.

  • Error when trying to connect Wii to Airport Extreme

Anybody else having a problem connecting their Wii to an Airport Extreme? I get the following error code: 51330.
My Extreme is configured for WPA security and sits right next to the Wii. When I configure the Wii if finds the SSID and when I put in the wrong WPA password it seems to know that it is the wrong password. When I put in the right password it makes it to the next step, which is the connection test, and I fails there.
Frustrating. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

THIS WORKED for me... hope it works for you: 1) Go into Applications>Utilities>AirPort Admin Utility>Configure. If it says "update available," go ahead and update it. 2) Change the channel to 1 or 11 (not sure this is necessary). 3) Disable WEP Security (Wii will stop asking for password by doing this - turn it back on whenever you don't need the Wii for long periods of time). When you hit "Update" to save the new settings, base unit will automatically restart. 4) Go back to the Wii, clear the old internet settings, restart it and go back in. This time, it should not ask for a password, and should tell you there's Wii updates, and ask you if you want them; update it. If a progression bar comes up, you're in business. When I took it for a test drive, it said there was another update, but skipped over it and started working.

  • No warning when on reserve power, shuts off data lost

    Hi There:
I would like to know if there is a problem with my Macbook and if it may need service. I am often working on a presentation and don't check my battery life, after I deplete it, it doesn't tell me that it is about to run on reserve battery power. Instead it just quits and whatever I was doing was lost.
Before, my computer would bring up a little message that said that I was about to run on reserve power and that I better connect otherwise it will shut off. When this happened I was able to connect it, restart (if it had shut of on me) and the screen I had when it shut down on me was there just as I had left it. Can anyone tell me if my Macbook needs service? Or is this a setting I am missing in prefs.
    Thanks Tyler

Check and see if you have battery update 1.3 installed.
    MacBook/Library/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/BatteryUpdater.bundle
Leopard installs it. It is the MacBook Pro update.
If it is 1.3 drag it to the trash and then reboot. After you reboot you will be able to emtpy the trash. Once you have done that run software update and it should install Battery Update 1.2. You should also reset the SMC (System Management Controller).

  • Turn off Airport Extreme without unplugging?

Is there a way to turn off the wireless siganl coming from the Airport Extreme (without unplugging it from the wall) at certain times? I.E. turn it off after bedtime to prevent kids from wirelessly gaming into the wee hours of the night or surfing the net at all hours?

Your other option is to use the Access Control option (within the AirPort Utility) to set specific times that their computers can connect to the AirPort. This way you won't have to enable/disable the wireless radios at all.

  • If I turn off AirPort Extreme will it loose it's settings?

I am a bit worried about the issue of radio signals and cancer. I want to turn it off during the night, but will it lose it's settings?

THe AirPort Extreme will not lose its network settings if you turn it off at night.
As far as potential issues, you are picking up far more radiation from cordless phones, cell phone towers, radio and television signals, aircraft, police and emergency signals, overhead electrical wires, the AC wiring in your home, and countless other sources.
WiFi would be the least of your worries compared to other sources of constant daily RF radiation.

  • Turning off airport extreme

I am a brand new mac os user. I just switched from a pc.
How do you turn off the airport extreme? Could it harm it to leave it on all the time? Are you supposed to leave it on all the time?

I assume by "airport extreme" you mean one of Apple's AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).
How do you turn off the airport extreme?
    Unplug it.
Could it harm it to leave it on all the time?
    Yes
Are you supposed to leave it on all the time?
It is designed to be on all the time.

  • Shutting off airport access

I don't want access to my wireless network open overnight (don't want my kids surfing until all hours.) Currently, I unplug my airport express. My questions are:
    1) Is there a software solution, where I can change settings to disallow access at certain hours?
    2) Am I going to do any long-term harm to the base station by unplugging it each night, and then plugging it back in come morning?
    3) If I just turn off my modem, then the amber light blinks all night on the base station - is this OK?
    Thanks.

    1) Is there a software solution, where I can change settings to disallow access at certain hours?
Parental controls in Leopard allow you to do this.
If you buy the new 802.11n Airport Extreme, it also allows you to do this.
    2) Am I going to do any long-term harm to the base station by unplugging it each night, and then plugging it back in come morning?
    No
    3) If I just turn off my modem, then the amber light blinks all night on the base station - is this OK?
    Yes.

  • Transient VO error when app module pooling shut off

    Hi,
I am using JDev 10.1.3.3.0 to build an application with ADFBC and JSF.
I am trying to test the application with the app module pooling turned off.
There is one failure I am trying to focus on an solve. What I am trying to is to populate Transient VO xyz, navigate to a dialog page using dialog: where the contents of xyz should be displayed in an af:table.
When AM Pooling is turned on, I see the data.
When AM Pooling is turned off, I have the right number of rows in the table, but I every table cell contains no data. Its like the binding layer does not restore.
Could someone explain why this is the case?
