"about:home" is the address of the default Firefox home page. It normally appears in the first tab when you open a new window, and is not a sign of any problem.

I am trying to get the most speed out of the browser, instructions say to type about:config in the address bar and hit enter, I did this. It now says to rt. click, from the menu select "New" then "Integer", I cannot find "New", I need better directions.

when I typed in about:config in the address bar and hie enter, what appeared looked like a lot of files, pages of them, I didn't know where to right click from the menu select "New"

I downloaded Firefox 4.0 recently and every time I open a new tab, I am not able to type in the address bar. I have to open up multiple pages in my task bar rather than having them tabbed in one browser. This was happening to me when I was using the beta version also.

I'm hoping that that's not the case. My only add-ons are Adobe Acrobat 9.0.0332, Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.22.4, Java Platform SE 6 U22, and Shockwave Flash 100.2.153.1. Which is stuff that I need in order to do most things on the net.

Firefox is crashing or comes up with Chrome something in the address bar and clears my page, why?

For some reason Firefox keeps clearing my page and something with 'Chrome' in the address bar pops up along with a second set of menu, bookmarks, and address bar below my existing ones. If I click on anything besides the address bar it disappears. I've uninstalled Google Chrome and Firefox. (thinking that Google Chrome might be somehow interfering with FF) I then re-installed my previous version of FF with no results. I took it off again and then installed the newest version of FF. I've ran several scans on my computer with SuperAntiSpyware, cleared my history/cache . Nothing has changed and I'm very irritated now. Either someone tell me how to fix this or I'm switching to another browser.

Firefox crashes when I paste about:sessionrestore in the address bar.

I was following instructions on a Mozilla page and copied about:sessionrestore to paste into the address bar. FF crashed as soon as I hit enter, so I tried again and it crashed again. What's up with that?

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well. 
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

When Firefox is launched, it does not load as is expected, there is no address bar and I am not able to surf the internet. Is there a plug in I need to download?

My other web browser is working and I am able to surf the internet with it. I have an iMac.

Whenever I click a link on a page that opens a new tab I get a bar at the top of my screen that asks me to 'Allow' this. How do I turn this off?

Could you check whether you've blocked redirects? That is one of the kinds of changes that can generate that bar.
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

When I open a new tab, the yahoo search page loads rather than the blank page. How do I revert to the blank page setting?

Cursor keeps resetting to beginning of the address bar if page is loading

Hello,
I have an annoying (and slightly bizarre) problem with Firefox: whenever I'm typing in the address bar, the cursor will constantly reset back to the beginning of the address bar. This only occurs if another page is currently loading.
For example, if I try typing in something like google.com it'll tend to come out as le.comgoog, but only if I've recently opened a few links and they're still loading the webpage. This makes it very difficult to open up any webpage if another one is loading.
This also occurs on the bookmarks bar, in that if I open up a folder, it will randomly close (making it rather hard to open up another site), but only under the same circumstances.
The problem seems to get worse the more tabs are loading - if it's just one I'll maybe get a reset after 5 seconds (or so) but if I've just opened up a folder of 10 bookmarks then google.com ends up becoming moc.elgoog because it's resetting so often.

You can start Firefox in -safe-mode to check if your problem is caused by an extension or theme (try the default theme).
If starting in Safe-mode works then disable your extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions or use the option in the Safe-mode window) and re-enable them one by one until you find which one is causing it.
Close and restart Firefox after each change.

Why can't I just press ENTER to go to the page when I have the complete URL typed into the address bar?

I dunno; maybe I'm just crazy, but I'd swear that before I downloaded FF4, I used to be able to (1) type in a complete URL, or (2) type a partial URL or keyword and choose what I wanted from a drop-down of recent URLs, then hit ENTER to be taken to the page I was looking for--all in the address bar, without having to use my mouse to click the little curly arrow at the right end of the address bar (next to the "favorite" star).

BINGO! SOLVED IT!! It was that rotten AVG safe search. Bravo, and thank you, TonyE! (I often suspect I'm losing my marbles; glad to know that this time it was a false alarm;)

Javascript openDoc not working. All I get is a new window with about:blank in the address bar.

I have my resume posted in a website applitrack.com. I can upload PDFs. The PDF file shows up as a link and when I mouse over the link, the status bar shows javascript:openDoc('file', '18292'). When I click the link, I get a new window and "about:blank" in the address bar. This website works fine in IE (the PDF gets launched when I click the file link.
I tried disabling and uninstalling AdBlock Plus and that didn't help.

There have been reports of the PDF plugin not working correctly with Firefox 5.

Browser hijacker about:blank. Firefox goes to about:home. Can we get rid of about:? And HOW?

slows computer, affects mouse use, about:blank is a web hijacker which I have avoided for 15 years. Now, suddenly, every computer has it. I am behind a router. The only changes I have made is to update firefox. Can you provide help for removing this? When I go to your app for which sets things back to default and pull up your page, in SAFE MODE, I get "about:home" in my address bar. I don't think it's safe to even install your fix at this point. I'd appreciate hearing back from you. Thank you.I am sending this from an OLD computer whose firefox is not updated but where about:home still appears.

How can I get Firefox to include the http when copying and pasting from the address bar?

I know you can use "browser.urlbar.trimURLs" in about:config to re-enable the display of "http://" on URLs in the address bar, but I think there's an actual bug with hiding them in the address bar that should be corrected:
When I click and drag in the address bar to select part of an address, including the beginning of the address, then use CTRL+C to copy it, and CTRL+V to paste it into something else, the pasted URL does not include "http://"; this is often inconvenient and will break in certain forms and so on.
In Chrome--where I guess the http-hiding feature was copied from--if you click and drag to select part of the URL including the beginning, then copy, when you paste, the "http://," hidden in their address bar, *is* included. That's how it *should* work. Firefox's implementation is incomplete and frustrating.

This is a known problem and should be fixed in Firefox 8.
