When clicking on privious sites in the address bar drop down Firefox has started to just reload the current page, is there a fix?

Until recently I could click on resent sites in the address bar drop down, but now it just reloads the current page (still shows icons and addresses for the sites I'm clicking on). I've tired clearing history and cache, is this a known bug?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

• How can I add more than five URLs to the address bar drop down list?

How many URLs can the Awesome Bar hold in the drop down list? I was showing five, but when I tried to add a sixth by cutting and pasting the URL in the address bar and clicking "Enter", it did not show up. Can the Awesome Bar hold more than five?

It is possible that you have an extension that sets this value to a lower setting than the current default of 12.

• Every single website, or link within a website page is being added to my location bar/address bar drop down menu. How can I stop this? This just started happening.

Every single website url address, or url address within a website page is being added to my location bar/address bar drop down menu.
I don't want everything added or saved in the location bar. Only urls that I used a lot used to be saved there but now every single url (and url within a url)I visit is being added to it.
How can I stop this? This just started happening.
I'm sure it's a simple browser setting but I've checked and nothing gives an option to control this.

A possibility is to open the links via the right-click context menu or a middle-click in a new tab to make sure that Firefox sees them as regular links.

• How do I get a URL to display in the Awesome Bar drop down list? Some URL's appear in this drop down but I can't figure how they got there.

There is a drop down list from the Awesome Bar containing some of my most frequently visited sites. How can I add URL's to this list?

The location bar drop-down list shows items based on visited count (bonus points and frecency: frequency and recency) and if you have visited other URLs more often then those will replace other websites.
You can't customize this drop-down list and you would have to bookmark websites to have easier access.

• When I click on a link in Thunderbird, Firefox 4 starts, but just shows the home page, not the page I clicked for

When I click on a link in an email in Thunderbird, Firefox 4 starts, but only shows the home page(s) not the page of the link

I think i've found how to fix this issue when it appears. Don't know what caused it to happen, but that's up to the devs.
In Thunderbird, you need to re-register http and https to make them open with Firefox (or open well with firefox in this case).
How to to this?
Well... open the about:config in thunderbird. You can achieve this by clicking configuration-editor in the advanced tab.
search for the strings: network.protocol-handler.warn-external.https and network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http. Set both to "true".
The next time you click on a link from within Thunderbird, it will ask you to set wich program you'd like to open it with.
Be Aware now!!! Firefox may already be listed in there, but don't pick that one. instead... choose to browse for the app and point to the binairy/exe of firefox.
(for example: /usr/bin/firefox or c:/program files/mozilla/firefox.)
You will notice that firefox now does open up with the page you just clicked on.
If it doesn't right away... just restart thunderbird and check again.
Please respond if this works for you too on all platforms. It's more interesting to know it does than if it's not.

Kenny

• Still no address bar. There is just a speed dial box where the address bar should. Navagation has a check in it

There is a check in the navigation box but there is still no address bar. The only thing that is where the address bar should be is speed dial icon. Above that is file, edit, history, etc, Below the speed dial icon there is most visited, getting started, latest headlines. below that are the tabs

Could you attach a screen shot of the "speed dial?"
'''Safe Mode'''
You May need to reset toolbars and controls via [[Safe Mode]]
Make sure you completely close Firefox first. When you get to the Safe Mode window, select Reset toolbars and controls and then Make Changes and Restart.
Hope this helps!

• How do i add web addresses to my url address bar drop down?

i know how to delete them. i want to know how to add. i have a few in there already but it's not at the max.

I have always been able to find my most used urls by dropping down from the address bar, but suddenly this option seemed to be gone and there were now none of the former urls shown there. I thought someone using the computer had cleared history or something but that was not the situation. I do not turn off the computer much and so we slowly accumulated some of the urls back into the drop down menu. Then suddenly a couple of days ago, they were also gone! This is quite annoying. How do I keep them there and not have them eliminated? I would not mind seeing a long list of the sites I have been on so I could go directly to them without doing a lot of typing.
It would be nice to be able to type in an address without having to change https to http each time when the only way seems to be to go to a site by typing in the address and I had been on a secure site before hand. I do not consider eliminating the drop down list an "improvement". I wish you would allow that to continue and be edited by the user if he needs to do so.
Most of the time issues are caused by making "upgrades" which change the way things are done with no valid reason to do so. It there is a need for a different way to make firefox run on a netbook or phone then make it special for that and keep the old system going for us users on laptops and desktops. I can understand making some changes due to security or virus sort of issues, but I am almost certain that those changes can be make underneath what the normal user will see and use to navigate the program.
Allowing those who have the time and energy to make some personal changes to the way it looks and operates is fine with me, but don't force all your users to make those changes too. I am sure the interface for firefox could be changed in the way things are accessed but not force us all to use that way...........call it a custom version or something like that.
For instance, I know there are hot keys for a lot of things but I have better uses for my limited memory than to memorize them. The problem is that they are all different for each program you use and if they all did the same thing in every program I might be inclined to do so. But that is not the case. So have some compassion for the casual user who is not a complete computer geek who lives and breathes computers night and day.

• Is there any way to restore the 'Open New Tab' option in the tab bar drop-down menu?

After years of using tabbed browsing in Firefox, I've long-since gotten used to right-clicking the tab bar, and selecting the top menu item 'Open New Tab'. So much so that it has become reflexive. Now with v4, when I perform the same action, it now just reloads the current page. Is there ANY way to restore the option to the pull-down menu? I don't wanna have to move my pointer all the way to the other side of the screen just to open a new tab... (T_T)

Hello, I suffered from a similar problem with the new search bar type. I've found that you can go into '''about:config''', then search for '''browser.search.showOneOffButtons''' boolean and toggle that. This should restore the old functionality. (You might need to restart your browser)
Note that, like always, edit your '''about:config''' at your own risk.

• How do I delete a site from appearing in my address bar drop-down list?

I am looking for a way to delete a website from being included in the drop-down list when I type things into my address bar.
I've deleted history and cookies associated but to no avail.
I'm accessing my router; I type 192... and it brings up the link to my old router, which doesn't work. Getting annoyed at having to scroll down to get the new, real link.
Solution? Cheers.

Thanks!

• I don't want firefox to save web addresses in the adress bar drop down box and I want to delete what is there now?

On the top of the screen is the box where you type a web address. The old ones are being saved in the drop down box accessed by clicking on the little arrow on the right. How do I delete the existing addresses retained there and tell it to never save addresses at any time.

• After the setting of Firefox 3.6 in myPC with the help of the browser IE8, i found that the File menu aswellas the Address bar were missing? What isthe actual problem in the installation of Firefox 3.6 with the help of the IE8 browser?

I have install and reinstall Firefox 3.6 as well as the Firefoc 4.0 more than 3 times. A problem occurs during the installation created and done by the browser IE8. I'm not able to detect and eradicate the problem. Do you have any proper idea, Please send it to my email id. Thank you.

There shouldn't be a problem. Try right clicking on toolbar space and make sure Menu Bar and Navigation Bar are checked.

• Previously, I was able to type in, for example "imdb iron man" into the address bar, and it would take me to Iron Man's imdb page. Now it just thinks it's a file that can't be found. What gives??

File not found
Firefox can't find the file at jar:file:///C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/omni.jar!/chrome/en-US/locale/browser-region/region.propertiesimdb+iron+man.

Starting with Firefox 23 the keyword.URL pref is no longer supported and it is no longer possible to specify the search engine for the location bar that way.
The search engine that is used on the location bar and on the about:home page is the search engine that is selected in the search Bar on the Navigation Toolbar.
You can install the Keyword Search extension to specify with search engine to use for the location bar and which search engine to use for the about:home page via the Options/Preferences windows of this extension, accessible via the about:addons page.

• How do I get the location bar drop-down list to show the most recently visited page at the top? I have no idea how it's deciding what to display.

In IE when you show the drop-down list from the location bar, it show you all of your most recently visited pages in descending order with the most recent at the top. Firefox is showing me a list that I have no idea where it's getting the pages from or how it's ordering them. It doesn't update the pages or the order when I go to a new page. I have recently switched from IE to Firefox and cannot figure out how to get Firefox to do this; very annoying.

That drop down list doesn't show recently visited pages, but shows list list of most visited sites sorted by what the Mozilla devs call frecency (frequency and recency) and is based on bonus points. It is not possible to have much influence on what shows on that list.
If you want a list of recently visited sites then you can use a smart bookmark e.g. on the Bookmarks Toolbar with the location set to this smart folder.
Name: Recently Visited
Location: place:queryType=0&sort=4&maxResults=30
You need to close and restart Firefox to make that folder work as intended.

• The tab list drop down arrow has disappeared and can't be restored through the customize dialog.

The dropdown arrow used to be there, as well as the tab scroll arrows when many tabs are open. But both suddenly disappeared. When I bring up the customize dialog, I can then see the drop down arrow in the tab bar, but if I click restore default set and close the customize dialog, there is still no dropdown arrow. If I open the customize dialog and drag the arrow into the dialog, it shows up there. But if I try to drag it back to the tab bar and then click Done, it still does not appear.

You will only see the "List All Tabs" button in Firefox 12+ if there are that many tabs open that you get the Tab bar scroll buttons appearing.
