When clicking the "Print" dialogue box..the application unexpectedly quits
I've just done a comple erase and install on my Mac G5 (v.10.4.7), because of a font conflict. I've reinstalled all applications and the newest printer drivers for both my HP printers :LaserJet 5000-GN and Color LaserJet 2550L.
When I go to print, and click on the print dialogue box in the application, the application unexpectedly quits. I can access the printers in other ways and print files so I know the printers are working properly. I just can't access the printers through the print dialogue box. This is true using Quark, Photoshop and Illustrator.
Is this an OS problem or a printer driver issue?

Printer driver disks were for System 9. So I've downloaded new drivers from HP. I've been advised to repair permissions using something called "Cocktail" so will try that. Otherwise...I may have to attempt anothe erase and install. Yuck.
Any other thoughts are welcome. Thanks again!

On that website (member only site), when i clicked on print menu on the site, it normally loaded the page and then the print dialogue box appear and immediately, it closed down all the pop up and print dialuge so that i cannot print it at all. It happened only after i upgrade Firefox to version 6.0.2, previous version it worked fine.

To help you, we'll need to know a bit more information:
Which version of Photoshop? Have you installed all the updates?
Which OS version?
What printer brand and model? Have you checked for updated drivers?
What troubleshooting have you already done? -
previously used Indesign CS4. I now have recently purchased Indesign CC. I have a Mac Yosemite 10.10.3. When I print, I cannot select my paper stock, other than what is in the print dialogue box, i.e. art paper. In Indesign CS4, I could choose fine art paper etc. Where can I find this option in this new version?
With Snow Leopard, the Printing of PDFs has changed. Try using the highlighted option

MS Word does show a somewhat different layout of the print dialogue, but all of the same options are there under the pulldown menu (where it starts at "Copies & Pages"). -

If you use print to file then you get a file that is meant to be send to a printer and that file has all kind of formatting code for that specific printer.
Opening such a file in Firefox or a text editor can only work if you use a text only printer to print the file to, so make sure that such a printer is installed and selected. -
Creating Save As .pdf workflows to be used in the Print dialogue box
Hi all,
I am new to Automator, and am trying to work out how to set up workflows to print/save documents, especially emails, as .pdf in a range of different folders.
For example, I am using Thunderbird for email and when I got to the Print dialogue box, I get the PDF drop-down menu at the bottom left. When I bring up this menu, one of the options is 'Save PDF to Web Receipts folder'.
However, I would like to add a few more folders to speed up the process of saving emails to different places. I have tried the Edit option, and tried in Automator but cannot set up a similar workflow to create more 'Save PDF to...' options.
Can anyone give me some tips on how to do this.

In Automator help we read:
Print Workflow plug-in
These workflows perform actions on files that have been saved as PDFs. They can be chosen from the PDF pop-up in the Print dialog. The file is first saved as a PDF formatted file, then the path to the PDF is passed to the first action of the workflow.
So this means your workflow could consist of just one action: Move Finder Items. I set this up with the To: field set to my desktop, and then selected Save As Plug-in from the File menu, gave it a name, and selected Print Workflow from the drop-down box. That's it! When I went to go print something, the workflow showed up in the menu automatically. (: -
Why does Firefox open the printer dialogue box whenever it starts up
When Firefox opens the printer dialogue box automatically opens - why and how do I stop it doing this.
This never used to happen on previous versions of firefoxSome web pages will pop up the print dialog automatically. In particular, pages that websites have specially formatted for printing may do this.
Are you restoring tabs that you previously opened, or starting up with your home page(s)? I suspect that one of them is generating the dialog. You could check by going to each one and reloading the page to see whether it is from that page. -
How can I move or resize the print dialogue box to fit within my screen?
Right now the print dialogue box sits below the menu bar and extends below the screen. I have tried to move it up or resize it, but it doesn't budge. I can't see the buttons at the bottom. I know one is "cancel" and one is "print" but there's a third - is it "save"?
I'm using Windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop with Creative 6 screen resolution is 1280 x 720

In my Photoshop Elements 10 the printer dialogue box scales to fit the screen every time.
In Photoshop Elements 12, even moving the task bar away (you can simply drag it up the right hand side of your screen with the mouse) you can't see the print button as its still off the bottom of the screen.
My work around is to hold shift+alt+cntl and click on my Ps icon - Click compatibility - Scroll down to settings - click run in 640 x 480 screen resolution. It then does horrible things to your screen res, but hey presto the printer dialogue box is minimised and you can print your picture. As with your Toshiba, even with the printer dialogue box fully exposed there are no chevrons in the bottom right hand corner to minimise the printer dialogue window and the arrow buttons simply start trying to change the settings in the printer set up. The dialogue box is still nailed to the top of the screen with no title bar to right click on.
How do I escalate this to report it as a bug to Adobe? -
Output Option menu is missing from the print dialogue box
I have just upgraded to the latest G5 PPC and installed OS 10.4.6 and in all applications in the Print dialogue box I cannot find the Output Options menu so I can output a postscript file, is there another patch that can be installed to add this option back into the printer settings. I didn't have this issue with 10.3.9 only in 10.4.X
G5 Mac OS X (10.4.6)I have looked the PDF menu but I am not happy that it states "Save PDF as Postscript", this option was available before and we had issues with some of the files it created. I cannot guarantee that it is using my postscript printer descrition which I need as we need full High Res files with NO downsampling at any stage and I'm not confident this is the solution, there has the be a better way to create a postscript file.

In Windows Explorer, locate the following folder:
drive:\Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\W32x86\3
Press and hold CTRL, and then click each printer file.
Note Each printer driver file has a file name that resembles the following:
lx**prpb.dll
lx**prpr.dll
dl**prpb.dll
dl**prpr.dll
Note ** is a two-letter designation that is associated with the printer.
With the printer driver files selected, right-click the files, and then click Copy.
In Windows Explorer, locate the following folder:
drive:\Windows\System32
Right-click the System32 folder, and then click Paste. -
The printer drivers are supplied by Apple and if I go to the HP site for their drivers they refer me back to Apple saying they supply the drivers for the Epson R200 and the HP laser 1320.
Well, MS Word does something like this automatically - if you tell it to start a new section on an odd page, and if the section before it ends on an odd page, it will "skip" the even page number in between - and when it prints, it automatically spits out a blank page in between them, so that on a two-sided printer, the odd pages all print on the front of the paper (which is the right-facing sheet when they are put in a binder or book).
InDesign shows the pages like this on the spreads (odd page numbers always on the right), so it is aware of the desired orientation, and I'd think it would provide a mechanism to ensure that they print out this way as well... -
