When closing Firefox 29, it remains active as process even if there is any open windows. So I have to use close process from Application management.

OS-Win 7 Home Edition
When I close Firefox 29 (just installed) the firefox.exe *32 process remains active and I must close it from task manager.
Otherwise when I try to run it again I get the message:
"Firefox is already running but not responding. To open a new window you must first close ...."
No such problem with previous version 28
Regards
Riccardo

For those that have the problem after the update or after changing the ''seer'' preference please set Firefox to NOT delete history at closedown
# Use new Button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] -> Preferences -> <br />|Privacy|Firefox will : [Remember History v]
# Does that help and allow you to restart ok ?
* Note
*# You should be able to open and use Private Browsing Windows ok still. You may need to close those windows before closing down Firefox though. <br />See [[Private Browsing - Browse the web without saving information about the sites you visit]]
*# This hang or close down issue is a known bug in Firefox 29 that has yet to be fixed. With luck it may be fixed in the next Firefox version. <br /> Note the known issues mentioned in <br /> http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/29.0.1/releasenotes/

  • After Firefox has been on for awhile, the Firefox tabs on the task bar disappear even though the pages are still running. I have to use Ctrl+Tab to fix it

I have started using Firefox recently. My computer is running XP. I notice that whether I have one Firefox window or multiple windows open, after awhile the Firefox tabs on the bottom task bar just disappear.
In order to get them back I have to use Ctrl+Tab to select each window one at a time and then they re-appear again on the task bar. Then after awhile they will disappear again.

When closing Firefox windows, I would like a warning before the last window closes. The about:config settings do nothing. There is a warning for multiple tabs... why not for the last window? I do not use tabs... just windows... I have a mouse button programmed for that. It is really irritating to have to restart Firefox all the time and then open the history window because no warning was issued!

This is ridiculous. I've had this problems for years now and I'm finally walking away from Firefox. I use my keyboards more than my mouse, and how many times does your finger slip and hit Command Q instead of W. How come FF can't reset something as trivial as this? So many people are having problems with this?
Feels like FF has become too big, too slow and just not cooperative anymore. What a shame, I've been using Netscape/Firefox for 13 years. This is silly.

When closing Firefox, after reopening it, my tabs are gone, even though I have Firefox set to remember session. However, after several hours and opening and closings of Firefox, it will open tabs from the old session, for no apparent reason.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":

  • I accidently checked the don't ask me again button when closing firefox, how do i uncheck it?

I accidentally checked the box that says don't ask me again when it prompted if i wanted to save and quit. However, i need it to ask me this so how do i un-check the box?

First check the following setting. In the Tools menu select Options. In the Options dialog go to the General panel and make sure the setting "When Firefox Starts" is not set to "Show my windows and tabs from last time", you can set it to either of the other 2 choices.
Now reset the 3 preferences that relate to warning when closing Firefox.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Find the following 3 preferences, right-click on them and choose '''Reset''' (if reset is not available they will already be at their default value)
    ## browser.tabs.warnOnClose
    ## browser.warnOnQuit
    ## browser.warnOnRestart

Clicking on Microsoft Update opened Firefox, but Microsoft Update couldn't run from Firefox; when I closed Firefox I lost all my tabs and couldn't restore anything but the Microsoft page; how can I restore the tabs from an earlier session?

    Hi Diovizor,
Make sure that you do not use [http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Clear%20Recent%20History Clear Recent History] to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox.
Also please make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.
You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: Use custome settings for history. Uncheck "Always use permanent Private Browsing mode"
    Hope that helps!

  • Saw a poss solution to my prob of loosing tab groups when closing firefox It read ". Edit Preferences Privacy "I can't find prefernces under the edit menu"

    Firefox V30.0
I saw a poss solution to my prob of loosing tab groups when closing firefox It read ". Edit > Preferences > Privacy "I can't find references under the edit menu" so cannot attempt the fix offered?

Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    See also:
App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

  • HOW MAY I SAVE MULTIPLE-OPENED BROWSING TABS WHEN CLOSING FIREFOX, PLEASE?

When closing Firefox I would like to be able to leave some tabs open so my next session just carries on, as though I had left a real $5.00 note bookmark in an ole-fashioned book.

Firefox 4 automatically saves your tabs and windows when you exit to restore them just click the Firefox button>History menu>Restore Previous Session and it will open your previous tabs and windows in addition to your current tabs and windows.
