When connecting my HTC device to my MacBook Pro, i experienced a display freeze. Are the two not compatible?
Has anyone else experienced issues with connecting android devices to a mac? Should I not try to sync my photos, or should I try again? Any advice would be appreciated.
Try removing the newly added fonts from your fonts and then try again. AI is very picky about which fonts it will use. You can also try verifying the fonts using FontBook and get rid of duplicates and bad fonts.

Just got a Viewsonic monitor 22 VA2246m-LED , connected to Macbook pro 13" The quality of the type is very poor.
I call Viewsonic tech support & they could not recommend any drivers. Check the website & no drivers were list. How can this issue
be corrected?The Mac uses a single highly-parameterized Driver that easily accommodates every display. There is no benefit to using different Drivers, so no one has developed different drivers. That is not a solution to your problem.
What interface are you using to connect this display?

If you use the display's DVI-D input with an appropriate adapter (rather than VGA) you will find the results are much better. -
Macbook Pro getting slower and slower, freezing all the time

My early 2011 Macbook Pro is gettin slower and slower, and I'm pretty sure Mavericks only worsened the condition. This is my report, can someone help me on why this is happening?

It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything suggested in this comment. Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as some other aspects of the configuration that may be related to the problem.
Don’t be alarmed by the seeming complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out. Here's a brief summary: In each of two steps, you copy a line of text from this web page into a window in another application. You wait about a minute. Then you paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is copy; paste; paste again. That's all there is to it. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken while booted in “normal” mode. If the system is now running in safe mode and is bootable in normal mode, reboot as usual. If it only boots in safe mode, use that.
Below are instructions to enter UNIX shell commands. They do nothing but produce human-readable output. However, you need to think carefully before running any program at the behest of a stranger on a public message board. If you question the safety of the procedure suggested here — which you should — search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects. If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. Wait for the line "Step 1 done" to appear below what you entered. The output of the command will beautomatically copied to the Clipboard. All you have to do is paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-Vagain. Please don't copy anything from the Terminal window. No typing is involved in this step.
Step 2
Remember that you must be logged in as an administrator for this step. Do as in Step 1 with this line:

This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
You can then quit Terminal. Please note:

Macbook pro late 13 frequent hard freezes with the rainbow wheel
Ive been getting this issue on my macbook quite frequently now; dont think its hardware related and occurs randomly at any time up to 3 times a day where the computer will slowly begin to freeze.
It (usually) begins by my browser not being able to access a website (just a white screen in browser section), at this point im able to alt tab between apps for some time but eventually everything will hard freeze, same with the cursor which will turn into a rainbow wheel and also eventually freeze.
Can only resolve this by power button for 6 secs (good thing it starts up in 5 seconds)
Any help?? Kind of new to macs Thanks!

Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Note the timestamps of the BOOT_TIME log messages, which refer to the times when the system was started. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract—not at the end.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent of each. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
☞ If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
☞ Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful. -

The Traktor interface just froze for about 1-2 minutes with the usual rainbow ball spinning and I could not manouvre to another page. Suddenly, the music stop and an error dialog box which I have seen before appeared and say to shut down my Macbook using the on/off button. I did what was said, off the Macbook and on it again and it behaved normal after that. I also did a 'repair disk' with disk utility after that. Now, I am kind of worried it will happen again in the midst of my DJ sets because it is going to be embarassing. Does anybody out there know what actually happened? Is it my hard disk or is it a one time off thingy...any thoughts will be a great help.

Linking other apple devices to my Macbook pro in ITunes
When I connect an apple device to my Macbook Pro it does not recognise any of the devices in iTunes.

I have a LaCie RAID Quadra hard drive (two disks in a case set to a redundant array) which for all intents and purporses appears as a normal hard drive to my mac.
When connected directly via FW800 to my Macbook Pro (2011, with thunderbolt port), it works perfectly.
For the sake of convenience, and since I am using it only at home as my Time Machine drive, I connected it to the FW800 port on my Thunderbolt Cinema Display. The display works perfectly in every way up until now.
When connected, the drive works great. However, when I put the machine to sleep, upon awakening it, I receive the "Disk improperly ejected" error immediately upon the screen coming up.
The drive is set to Auto mode which has always worked fine in the past; putting the drive to sleep when the computer is asleep, etc.
So, I only receive the disk ejected error when it's plugged into the Cinema Display; not when directly plugged into the MBP.
I have the 1.1 firmware update applied to the monitor.

My desktop has two FireWire ports. In the first one I had my webcam plugged in. In the second one, the External Hard Drive. I unplugged the camera and used the first port for my External HDrive and now it works! So it seems the problem is a hardware problem with the port.
I'd check to see if the problem returns when you plug the camera back into the second port, or if the drive works in the original port when the camera is not connected.
Edit: Maybe you unplugged the problem, when you unplugged the camera?

MacBook Pro 15" Retina Scaled Display
I just received a brand new MacBook Pro 15" with a retina display. I've never had an Apple laptop with a retina display, so I don't know too much about it. I don't like the default resolution used (too big!) for the retina display. However, when I go for "more space" it lets me know that scaled resolutions may affect performance. I am wondering if there is any actual downside to using the 1920x1200 scaled resolution on the MacBook Pro 15" w/retina display (I have the one with the 2.6GHz CPU, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and the discrete graphics card).
Did you ever receive an answer to this, or have you enabled scaling and noticed any performance impact? I too am a new 15" MBP owner (first Mac ever) and was immediately disappointed with the display the first time I turned it on. Resolution is definitely too low for this size screen.

I have tried connecting a number of devices to my MacBook Pro but I have found if I try to connect 2 or more using either usb ports or a usb hub the computer reports 'disk not ejected properly' and sometimes it will fail to recognise the device and remove it from the desktop or it stalls operation and I have to turn the computer off at the power button.
I have tried erasing the hard drive and reinstalling the operating system.
I have done various types of reset suggested by apple support.
The computer has been to an Apple dealer who has tested the hardware but found nothing due to the intermittent nature of the problem.
I have operated the computer with only the software originally installed on it present.
Could it be possible that a virus could be present on the usb devices I am trying to connect?

Devices I have connected to USB ports all USB 3.0 compatible in a variety of combinations:-
7 port superspeed USB 3.0 hub (powered).
4 port Inateck USB 3.0 portable hub (not powered).
Buffalo ultra portable 500Gb USB 3.0 hard drive.
Seagate Expansion portable 500Gb USB 3.0 hard drive.
Seagate Expansion desktop 2Tb USB 3.0 hard drive (powered).
Seagate Expansion desktop 3Tb USB 3.0 hard drive (powered).
ScanDisk Cruiser Edge 16Gb USB stick.
ScanDisk Cruiser Edge 32Gb USB stick.
Hewlett Packard 16Gb USB stick. (This causes an instant crash now.)Why?
- Because when I'm editing/ rendering lots of HD video everyday, I don't want to share system resources between virtual machines... I want the entire system's resources devoted to what I'm doing.
- I don't want to spend anymore money than I have to in order to buy one of the faster virtual systems. Not to mention, I've had a bad experience with Parralels in the past and I'd rather not use one again.
- I really don't want to clutter up my system anymore than I have to for a project that's only going to take a few weeks.
- I don't mind swapping hard drives... it takes two minutes, and I have an empty ssd just sitting on the shelf.
So, back to my original question. Can I just swap the computer's drives, then install Ubuntu on the second drive and be good to go without any harm to my MacBook Pro or OSX on the other drive (which wouldn't be connected when Ubuntu is running)?

When I connect my iPhone 4S to my MacBook Pro (through the USB port), the synchronization process by iTunes failed with the following message "My iPhone could not be synchronized, because the synchronization process has not started".
What does that mean?
Thanks in advance for fixing my problem.I think I remember hearing that if you quit iTunes with your device still connected, then open iTunes up again, it should work.

I did everything the article suggests. And for my macbook pro it works perfectly. But all the other devices (iphone 5, 4, Macbook Air) can't connect to the network. Anybody any idea's?
Try resetting your modem. Power it down. Wait a moment, then power it up again. While it resets, do not change what is connected to it.
In another, though unrelated article, Apple recommends the following:
If you have configured your Wi-Fi base stations in the past, it may be helpful to do a factory default reset of each Wi-Fi base station that will be part of the wireless extended network before you begin.
This step really ought not be considered optional for the configuration you propose. If the problem persists after resetting your modem, reset everything else too. -
SPDIF output is disabled when connecting a HDMI device

I've got a Toshiba SAT U500 with Realtek audio driver. I want to send the video to the TV (via HDMI) and still send audio via SPDIF to the digital receiver. By some reason it is automatically enabling HDMI audio when I connect the TV, and on the SPDIF output (icon on Windows 7 -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound) a telephone sign appears.
What does that telephone sign mean? How to make the system not to disable SPDIF output when connecting a HDMI device?
