ITunes COM API for Windows - iTunes 7.7 broken!

I use the iTunes COM API for Windows to control iTunes as part of a program which helps users create audiobooks.
Version 7.7.0.43 of iTunes breaks this software. So far as I can determine, the iTunes.ConvertTracks2 and iTunes.ConvertFiles2 routines are now broken, in that they no longer return a reference to the converted tracks.
Is this a bug on Apple's part, or is it a fundamental change? The COM API documentation describes the earlier behavior, which makes sense.

I'm seeing the exact same behaviour in my application calling the COM API from Perl. No track reference can be obtained after ConvertTracks2 completes.
What's going on?

It is a powerful machine. The harman/kardon speakers sound very nice and clear compared to their size (they dont give you bass of course) Wireless is perfect, no connection losses. It is not warming. 32 and a 64 bit version Vista.
Some probably negative comments:
- the position of the intake vent is at the bottom
- no S-video port (only VGA and HDMI) so I can not connect it to my CRT tv set :(
- battery time is not so long
- I hoped the keyboard has backlit, but I was wrong
- 25! Toshiba utility programs (come on! is it neccessary???)

You're pushing the brown, sticky proverbial stuff uphill... Leopard has been out 3 days, so don't hold your breath for 10.5.1. It's speculation too, so the TOS probably prohibit this sort of discussion.

Whenever it comes out (and previous releases don't necessarily predict anything), you're often better waiting 24-48 hours. There will be less server load meaning the process will go very quickly and is less likely to go badly wrong in the middle. And based on the recent issue with iOS 8.0.1 (admittedly a rare occurrence), you might end up skipping a bad update entirely. It also give developers time to release any updated that might be needed for immediate compatibility.
