When does an app uses my data package

when downloading an app, how do i know if it is using my data pakcage when i run the app? for example, i have an alarm clock app does it use my data package every time i set an alarm? will it tell me in the description of the app, and if so what will the description say?

With common sense mostly.
An alarm clock app does not require internet address to function. A weather app requires internet access to download weather data for a selected location.
Reading the description for an app should provide adequate info to make a determination if the app requires internet access to function, but it probably won't include - REQUIRES INTERNET ACCESS.

When formatting your column to date/time, pick Date & time, and then pick the letter i in the circle to the right. Then scroll down and pick "No time"

  • Some apps "use cellular data" will not remain turned off

some apps "use cellular data" will not remain turned off
No matter how often I go to settings>cellular and turn off the apps, as soon as I close that screen they automatically turn back on.
I prefer not to delete the apps and reload them as I will loose the data in them when they are removed.
    Thanks for the help.

First thing and easiest thing to try is a device reset:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • My iPhone5 has terrible Network connection. It rarely works at the normal speed-if ever. I usually get 3G or 1x network dozens of times a day. My phone also gets pretty hot when i try to use any data for more than a few minutes.

My iPhone5 network connection has been terrible for the past week and a half. My phone is no more than a year old so I don't see why it would be a problem with the phone. When I try to use the internet or look for apps or anything like that, anything that uses data really, it takes FOREVER if it even loads! Most of the time it won't even load. My network changes from LTE(which doesn't work well) to 3G(which works even less) and then to 1x(which basically doesn't work at all). This happens dozens of times a day. It's getting quite irritating. I've tried turning my phone off and letting it sit for a while and that does nothing. I'd really prefer NOT to restore my phone. What is the deal??!

Are you broadcasting your SSID? Sometimes this can cause a problem connecting. Is this Cisco router running any turbo modes or special preparatory protocols.
There are no know issues with Wi-Fi connectivity except on first connection; and the chance of 2 devices having the exact same issue is very unlikely. This sounds like something to do with your wireless router.
Have you tried to connect to another Wi-Fi hotspot elsewhere?
Do you have any 2.4 GHz wireless phones or security system that could interfere with connection?

  • How To resolve "disk space is full" issue when downloading the apps in Creative Cloud Packager

    Hello All!
I have recently started using Creative Cloud Packager and have started my first package.  I have instructed it to download to my Local D Drive (which has 200GB free) and it has started successfully however about a third of the way through it stops and some of the apps have a warning icon and the error "Disk Space is full, please clear some space and try again".  However my D Drive still shows 200GB free which implies that it is not downloading to there at all and also that there is space!
Is there a download cache location which could be full or should it download straight to the folder I instructed?
Can anyone advise on the best way to troubleshoot this please?
    Thanks,
    James

    Hi James,
The cache folder is set in the preferences, under the drop-down 'Welcome' menu.

  • How can I control which apps use cellular data?

Sometimes I marvel at Apple's amazingness and sometimes I can't believe the holes.  Googling around I get the impression that iOS/iPhone provides no means for a user to take control of their data plan and set which apps are permitted to use cellular data and to track cellular data usage on an app by app basis.  Am I the only one that finds it unbelievable that an operating system designed for a cell phone that supports adding piles of sometimes sketchy 3rd party apps doesn't have this baked right in?  There seem to be a few apps try monitor overall aggregate data usage, but they are useless at getting to the root cause.
So, I hope I'm just missing it.  How do I figure out which broken, buggy, misconfigured app I stupidly installed is eating my data plan?  Maybe Android is a better choice for guys like me that are too busy to play whack a mole uninstalling and reinstalling apps for hours and days to try to solve such a tedious mystery.
    Thanks!

  • PreparedStatement.setTimestamp does not allo use of DATE index..

(...although they' re not suposed be related)
    Hi;
I use Oracle 10g with Java JDBC driver ojdbc14.jar and I have a PreparedStatement on which among other "bind" JDBC parameters I have a java.util.Date. The ORM that we use (Hibernate 2.0.3) passes this Date instance as a java.sql.Timestamp binding it with setTimestamp on the PreparedStatement.
Interestingly enaugh, this way of binding the value does not make the database use the date column index, although the explain available from TOAD / Session browse, for instance, tells me the planner first demands an index scan there (it is possible i think that explain only operates on prepared SQL alone, disregarding value initial types and values). Doing a preparedStatement.setDate(value) instead, passing a java.sql.Date, uses the index and probably fully respects the Explain Plan that I have seen.
I assure you I have done many tests, with exact same query, parameter types and values, session origination and environment and changing one thing at a time. The only thing that being changed enables the query to make use of the DATE column index and return under a second, compared to tens of seconds of full table scan with expensive function calls, is to replace the preparedStatement.setTimestamp with setDate.
This can only be a JDBC bug, as far as I can tell. Do you know of this problem? What may be the cause?
As a note, since I need to continue to use that version of Hibernate on that spot, I momentarily worked around this apparent bug by modifying the SQL WHERE clause in order to provide the DATE value as to_date function output from a String bind, so doing date_col = to_date('YYYY-MM-DD', :value) instead of date_col = :value. Works fain, but just a work around.
Looking forward for your answer and suggestions,
    Nicu Marasoiu

    A few remarks:
    - Toad explain plans can be frought by implicit data type conversions.
Generally speaking everything is treated as a varchar2.
    - You would need to show the plan from v$sql_plan.
    - It would be a JDBC bug if you can show 'correct' behavior from sql*plus, making sure you actually do use bind variables of the correct type (so VARIABLE foo date prior to running the SQL, the SELECT referencing :foo)
    - In the past I have observed strange CBO behavior because the date wasn't a complete date (ie time was missing). This can be rectified by function based indexes.
    - You probably can enable event 10053 in your JDBC session, or event 10046 level 12

  • IPad Mini Freezes when close an app using Multi Gesture.

    Hello everyone,
I'm not sure if I'm the only one who experience this unusual bug. Since I update my iPad Mini to iOS7 (now it's 7.0.3), whenever I close an app using multi gesture, it freezes. It happens very frequent, in a ratio of 3 out of 5.
Does anyone experience the same issue? If so, is there any way to fix it? Or I will have to wait for Apple to patch up?
    Thank you!

Go to settings>icloud>storage and back up>back up
after that preform a restore by going to
    general>reset>erase all content and settings
this will delete everything except the enabled stuff on icloud.
You can view whats enabled by going to icloud in settings.

  • HT202213 Does Home Sharing use up data allowance?

    Hi,
Does Home Sharing use up broadband data allowance, or is the data streamed between iMac and Apple TV kept just within the home using the wireless router? I'm unsure as the info on Apple's site says homesharing requires an active internet connection.
All I really want to do is stream photos and music from my Mac to the HDTV as it has the sound system hooked up to it. I don't want to have to use iCloud for this, as I don't believe the satellite connection is consistent enough.
I'm concerned as I only have a 3GB monthly allowance, and am on satellite broadband, so service is a bit patchy.
    Any thoughts/solutions greatly appreciated.

  • XML in Java: does encoding matter when it's only used for data?

    Hi everybody,
I have a text document that I've converted into XML, and that I read into my Java program. The encoding I have to use to support accented characters, iso-8859-1, doesn't support certain characters, like curly quotes or em dashes. I'm not planning on displaying my XML document on a web page, just to use it as a data format for ease of access. (By the way, to everybody who's mentioned XML to me in the past, I finally realize how cool it is!)
Anyhow, after all that rambling, my question is: since I'm using characters that aren't supported by my encoding set, does it matter that the XML isn't "perfect" and has some characters in it that are technically illegal? Eventually I'm going to read it into a different Java program and just parse it, where I'll need those characters. I sort of got the impression that it didn't matter if you're not planning on displaying the XML on the web.
EDIT: I forgot one thing -- if it doesn't matter, does that mean I wouldn't need to have the "xml version" line at the top of the document?
Any clarification on this would be great!
    Thanks,

You would have to make a cable that will plug into the Nano and serve as an antenna (the headphone cable serves this purpose) and triggers the radio without touching the headphone contact. There are some custom shops that can probably make such a custom jack/cable for you, should not cost you much more than $100 or so USD. But you will still have the problem that the jack you have made will preclude you from docking your Nano with the Anywhere 2.
A much more inexpensive solution would be to buy a cable like this: http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=4572 and connect it to the headphone jack on your Nano and to the audio in jack on the back of the Anywhere 2. The longer the cable the better antenna. You won't be able to charge the Nano while you listen, but you can do that after you are done listening to FM.

  • Why does iPhone continuously use 3G/data every hour, despite "everything" is turned off?

Every hour, one to several times an hour, the phone uses 0.1 to 20kb with 3G / GPRS. And this despite the fact that the following is off:
    - WiFi
    - Notifications
    - Locations
    - Push
Someone who can explain to me what/why the phone uses the GPRS for? I have unlimited GRPS included from my cellphone operator (NetCom in Norway), so this is no worries. However when I travel abroad, this can get expensive.
I know I just can turn of 3G, but I would still like to know why the continuos use of GRPS happens. In case it's an app or setting I haven't done anything with.
Just in case: no app is running :-)
Have looked online and there are many who have an opinion, but do not know. I'm looking for an answer, not what people think the the answer is :-)

Still trying to figure this out.  Really trying to avoid having another iCloud for my next iPad. Can anyone confirm if the iPhone is storing a lot of OS files in iCloud?  If you're backing up your iPhone to iCloud, what is your storage size?
