Unfortunately there's no way around this. you will need that password to update the apps. If he won't give it to you, then i'm not sure what to say.
You should have kept the account with the Apps you bought yourself.
Otherwise, as I said, delete the Apps, and buy them again.

Do you get any error messages?
Try resetting the App Store.
Reset Learned from Old Toad
Try deleting the com.apple.appstore.plist.
Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

App store on phone has switched to different region, how do I change it back?

Somehow when browsing the app store on my iPhone it's changed to US app store. My account is based in New Zealand and I can no longer download or update anything as it keeps telling me that I need to change the store to New Zealand but I don't know how!
If anyone can walk me through what I need to do to change this back to my default NZ app store that would be much appreciated.

Open the App Store... Scroll all the way to the bottom and Select "Apple ID: abcdef", then View my Apple ID, then log in, and make sure Country/Region is selected as appropriate and hit done.

Can't download or update through app store since the new version

For a couple of weeks now since the new itunes update i have no longer been able to update or download apps through the appstore on my iphone4. When i go to purchase and i go to enter my password, after one or 2 digits it disappears. I have credit in the system so there is not problem there. Seems to be the update. I have been trying multiple times to download the iMovie 9.0.6 update, but on each and every occasion I get the errormessage "failed checksum" when trying to install it. What should I do?

I have a Macbook pro unibody 13 mid 2010, I made the firmware update too, the day after I had suddenly my computer freezing when I was watching videos on youtube. I tried to restart it, and it was stucked to a white screen. I tried all the possible solutions, : SMC reset multiple times, NVRAM/PRAM reset multiple times.
I tried to reinstall the system from the dvd, and from a USB key : Impossible to install it as no hd was showing up in the list of availaible drives. I tried the online restoration. Tried with another hd with lion on it. The only thing that worked was to launch the system from an external usb drive, when it was launched, the wifi and bluetooth cards were not working (no cards).
I tried to launch the same hd with lion on it on another macbook (no firmware updates made on this macbook), and the wifi and the bluetooth was working fine on it.
I really do believe that this update has something to do with my problems, and expect from Apple to fix them

Can I download an update from a different country than my account is registered in?

My Adobe account was set up in Australia, but I am currently based in Germany. I would be using my Australian credit card to purchase a Lightroom 5 update...will it still let me download it in Germany?
And can I use it on two computers?

Zoe Berlin you will need to make sure the billing address is the same as the address on your account. You can log into your Australian account and make the purchase under that account. Or are you now living in Germany permanently and want all future software purchases to be registered to you with Germany as the country of residence?

Thanks for the information everyone. smj7220, I know how frustrating this is because I love to download apps on my phone, so we are going to do our best to help you. We should try putting your phone into safe mode. Safe Mode temporarily disables all applications that have been installed via the Android Market. We can determine whether a 3rd party application is the cause of an Operating System / Application issue. I will list steps to enable and disable safe mode below. If this does not work, we may need to reset the device back to default setting with a hard reset.
Enabling Safe mode
Press and hold down the Power Key.
Select Restart.
Select Restart.
When the HTC Logo screen appears, press and hold the Volume down key.
Release the Volume down key when Safe Mode appears in the lower left.
May take up to 30 seconds.
Disabling Safe mode
Press and hold down the Power Key
Select Restart.
Select Restart
Performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications. Please ensure you have attempted all suggested steps given by us and the community before performing a hard rest. Steps are listed below:

When my wife bought this ipad 18 months ago, she (or the store) set up an Apple ID that had the extension @me.com. She never wrote down the password that was created. Neither of us knew how to change the password and retrieve or create the new one. When we started actually trying to download apps, this became a problem. She called customer support before the first year of ownership ended, and they created a new Apple ID. This ID works; we can go to the support site and log in with it, yada yada. However, when I go to the app store and want to get a new app or update an existing app, the Apple ID login field prepopulates with her original ID, which is no good to us. I can't find any way of putting in the new, valid Apple ID in this login field. Why doesn't the app store give me the option to change the Apple ID this device wants to use? How do I change this setting? I'm in a time crunch, and we need to be able to download and use a few apps for some business purposes.

select Sign Out
sign in with the proper account
from then on, when the store ask for your password it should be with the correct ID

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store could prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app could be "Final Cut Pro." Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.

4. At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
5. Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.

You cannot use other countries itunes stores.
You must be within the Country with a Valid Billing Address and Credit Card for that Country to use the iTunes Store of that Country...
