When downloading Firefox 4 - it is an older version not 4 why?

I was prompted to download an updated Firefox for security reasons - that went well - when the 3.6.17 opened, it was suggested that I download Firefox 4. I downloaded it and it then said that it was an older version - what happened to 4?

This would cause the 'app button' to appear if that if what you looking for:
# View -> Toolbars -> tick 'toolbars on top'
# View -> Toolbars -> untick 'menu bar'

I had an earlier version of Adobe Acrobate on my computer. Apparently when I had cloud I upgraded to version XI. It appears that my earlier version was destroyed by cloud.  I believe that my earlier version was a download product.  I want my older version back.  How do I go about getting it.

You need to know what product you had and have the S/N for the product. If you registered the product you can obtain that information from My Account at Adobe.com.

There is a version of Firefox 4 available for PPC Macs:
TenFourFox 4.0.1 Firefox 4 For PowerPC Browser Released
Version 4.0.1 of TenFour Fox, FloodGap's port of Firefox 4 for Power PC
Macs that supports both Mac oS X 10.4 and 10.5. has been released.
Mozilla.org dropped support for OS 10.5 after Firefox 3.6 and for Power
PC with the fourth beta of Firefox 4.
TenFourFox uses almost all the same code as Firefox 4 and has nearly all
the same features, including faster JavaScript, WebM video, and HTML 5
and CSS 3 support, as well as new and emerging Web features, but with
the code needed to keep your Power Mac functional and fast. Out of beta
and it's ready for action, versiob 4.0.1 is a performance, security and
stability update incorporating Mozilla's Firefox 4.0.1 plus AltiVec acceler
-ation for WebM and browser graphics, and G5 JavaScript acceleration.
    For more information, visit:
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
    Source: from http://www.applelinks.com - posted April 25, 2011)
Now for the intersting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins. Unless you are prone to headaches (in which case don't) you can read about that here:
    http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/PluginsNoLongerSupported
    But there is a workaround!
Open TenFourFox and type in the address bar: about:config (no spaces) and click return. This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care.
    Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled
Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it)
Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored.
With SilverLight, Microsoft attempted to create their own version of what a replacement for Flash could be - but not to universal acclaim. You can read more about it here:
    http://silverlight.net/
So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards) if you are using a PPC Mac, but even this will not work with Safari 4. Version 2 only works with Intel Macs and does work with Safari 4/5. The solution is to download and install the latest version of Flip4Mac, which now includes a Silverlight component:
    http://dynamic.telestream.net/downloads/download-flip4macwmv.htm
But the latest news is that Microsoft will probably abandon Silverlight in favour of HTML5:

  • Tried to download but keep getting message:the older version of apple software update cannot be remove contact support group Help

Trying to uninstall and download itunes keep getting message "the older version of apple software update cannot be removed contact support group. There must be a hidden file I can't find.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25 2010. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

I filled out my own form saved it and sent through email, when I opened it what I filled out was not there, why would this be?

What software did you use to fill-in the form (Preview, perhaps) and what software did you use to open it after you emailed it?

The response above is only a speculative answer to the original question. DSI-Hal, did you try to flatten the text in Bluebeam Revu prior to opening it in Adobe. This has worked for me on several different documents but not sure if we are using the same version of Adobe Reader.
Give it a shot. Good luck.

  • When I downloaded Firefox 4, nothing from my previous version stuck, I have nothing, no bookmarks, passwords -- I really dislike Firefox 4

I have used Firefox for many, many years. Happily, blissfully. Then Firefox 4.0 comes along. Now everything has changed and my entire dashboard experience has been dashed. First of all, when I downloaded Firefox 4.0, none of the settings, bookmarks or passwords from my previous Firefox transferred. Then somehow a Yahoo search bar got loaded on, I never authorized that, not a Yahoo fan. So I reloaded Firefox 4 in safe mode without my add ons. Maybe that wiped everything out. It made me log on to Gmail each time, refused to remember my password. All of my newspaper tabs were gone. I had nothing except a new browser that had never seen me before. I got frustrated and tried to restore the old 3.6 version. So I uninstalled Firefox 4. But I did'nt check that box about removing personal data. Anyway, where do I go from here? I even out of frustration downloaded Google Chrome which I am using at the moment. I really resist MS Explorer. I always run No Script, and only Firefox allows that, keeps me safe. So at the moment, my years of bookmarks are somewhere I don't know where. I could download Firefox 4.0 again I guess. Please work with me. I must confess that I really do not like this new Firefox, you changed the whole look. But, I am not a Cretan and will work with you if you can direct me. If my bookmarks are gone, sadly, I can live with it. I had like 30 news tabs, but I can go grab them again. Dan 602-476-1977

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • When i downloaded firefox i choose ur tools i do not like it can i have my old ones back

when i downloaded firefox it asked if i wanted to use firefox browser or my old one. not knowing i would loose things. is there a way to switch back please

What is it that you have lost and want back ?
And was your ''old browser'' another version of Firefox or a completely different browser.
If for instance you have lost Google Toolbars not that this is no longer supported by Google on Firefox because basically it adds very little if any functionality that Firefox does not already have, (and you can still gain access to google bookmarks if that happens to be one of your problems).

  • How do I report an apparent virus to Firefox? I seem to have been infected when downloading Firefox

I appear to have downloaded the JS/Agent.A and JS/Agent.B viruses when I downloaded Firefox. Is this possible? The evidence for this is that the virus arrived at the same time as the download, and appeared in the C:/Program files/Mozilla Firefox/chrome directory. It appears to have used Firefox to access some log-in details and reported them to a third party. I could find no way to report this directly to Firefox via the website, and would like to do so.

    Paul,
A/V programs look for patterns in code that look suspicious to the A/V application, but the A/V program will not flag files that are known to contain that pattern if the internal A/V detection files know those specific files are part of a valid application. We usually see postings about problems like you are having immediately after a Firefox update, because the users A/V program vendor was slow adding the new Firefox files to their database and slow in sending those updates to their users. We have seen repeated problems from a few A/V vendors over the years, usually the suspected problem goes away when the user forces an update manually thru the offending A/V program.
I can only guess that your A/V program flagged something in Firefox because it was a newly installed program, and it didn't expect it to be installed.
As long as you are downloading Firefox from a Mozilla download mirror website, the chances are slim to none that you will get a true virus as a result of downloading and installing Firefox. Which is why you should only download Firefox from an official Mozilla web page, like this:
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/firefox.html
    Sorry, you had that problem.

  • When downloading Firefox it did not transfer my favorities, how do I get them of Firefox?

When I downloaded Firefox, my favorites did not transfer for Internet Explorer. I would like to have them on Firefox.

Google and Bing are '''Search engines''', where Firefox and IE are '''''web browsers'''''. To the right of the Location bar, where web addresses are typed, is the Search bar. Selecting a Search engine to use in the Search bar only controls the Search bar.
It sounds like your problem is with MSN being your '''Homepage''' and you want to change it to something else. See this support article: <br />

  • I downloaded Firefox 4.0 and now it's not working

Two days ago, I downloaded Firefox 4.0 like the browser prompted me to. Right after the update, I was unable to connect the internet. The page displays the message, " Firefox uses a proxy server that is refusing connections". I don't have a Mac, just Windows. I called my internet provider and we tried uninstalling 4.0 and reinstalling the older version - nothing. We tried installing internet explorer - nothing. I tried unplugging my router and plugging it back in - nothing. I really think this is a problem with Firefox because everything was fine until I installed 4.0. Now I really wish I hadn't.

You're trying to go through a proxy which isn't working. Assuming you don't normally use a proxy to connect to the internet, do this:
Tools, options, advanced, connection settings, set no proxy.
Causes for this may include anything which monitors or forwards newtork traffic on your computer (tools like fiddler2 or tor). It may also be that you are on a network which requires a proxy to access the intenet (some corporate and university networks do this).

  • When I download CC it comes in the Dutch version not in English

Even though I have selected English as my preferred language when I try and download CC it comes in Dutch! What is going on?

You can download the en-US version via this page:
    * http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall the current version that is in the wrong language and install that new version.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
