When downloading itunes keep getting error 7 windows 126 message

When trying to download and install itunes get message: error7 windows 126

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Are you trying to download some sort of iTunes program for installation on your Windows computer?
And you are trying to use Firefox to download that program?

  • I keep getting error 7 windows 126

How can I fix this problem?

I Had this problem along with the error message that it's missing the driver GNSDK_DSP.DLL. I am Windows XP and fixed the error by going to Start>My Computer>Add or Remove Programs
When the Add or Remove programs list is "populated", Find iTunes on it. Click the link that says "For more information" and the iTunes box will expand.
You will see a button that says "Repair" and it says to reinstall the program if it is not working correctly, use the "Repair" button.
I clicked the Repair button and it automatically started the reinstall. When all the progress bars disappear (it didn't really give any other indication that it was done) click the "close" button and try to open iTunes again. It worked first time for me. I also saw another forum where someone said it worked for the other Windows versions by following the same route, just that in other windows versions it might be "Computer" instead of "My Computer" and the Add or Remove Programs function is also called something else.
BTW, this problem occurred after a big Windows security update.I don't know for sure that had anything to do with it. Also should mention that rebooting the puter after I first got the error messages when trying to open iTunes did no good whatsoever. And also saw posts on other forums to make sure and use the Add/Remove Programs program and not try to manually uninstall because it won't work. The "Repair" button in Add/Remove Programs did work very well.
Hope this helps somebody having this problem. It drove me crazy finding the answer, but the fix was super simple once I found out what to do.

Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content. (That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times in case of disasters of any sort.)
