When downloading Windows Support Software from BCA, download freezes at about a sixth of the way

When I download the Windows Support Software from BCA, the progress bar freezes at about a sixth of the way through. I took my MBP to the genius bar, and they told me I should use a USB drive instead of a DVD, but even when I use a USB the problem persists. I've even tried saving it straight to my Windows Partition, and the same thing happens. I've seen many people with a similar problem, but instead of getting something like "The Windows Support Software is not available", my download just freezes. I tried to uncheck "Auto Proxy Discovery" in system preferences, but it already was. I also heard you could use the drivers on the SL installation disc, but I have a late 2011 MBP, which came with Lion, so I don't have an install disc. Does anybody else have the same problem or a solution? Any help would be appreciated.

Oops, sorry. I meant to say Release Preview, not Consumer Preview
Like I said before, the progress bar just freezes when I do what http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4407 says. Also, that article was for an MBA late 2010, but I have an MBP 8,2 (late 2011). I don't think that makes a difference, though. The only thing I actually need the drivers for is for the wifi card, which W8 RP doesn't seem to detect. I tried looking for BCM4331 drivers on the internet, but apparently, broadcom doesn't let you download their drivers, but anyways, thanks for the reply.
This is exactly where the download always freezes, about a sixth of the way through:

  • Can Windows 8 Consumwe Preview run the Windows Support Software from Bootcamp?

    Hi guys,
I was wanting to install Windows for a long time for gaming compatibility (No other need for that rubbish) and I didn't want to buy Windows 7 so I thought maybe I could run the Windows 8 Consumer Preview instead as it is free (and probably a little bit more tolerable). But then I thought can it run the Windows Support Software from Bootcamp?
Please can you answer my question,
    Many Thanks,
    Louis Attfield

You really want to look at other threads. Not knowing what Mac all I can see is most things work the same or better but a few mostly minor won't.
Why not download burn and try and then tell us? one tip: the burn needs to be slowest reduced burn speed.
GPU and audio drivers you have to (Windows 7 also) uninstall Apple's and then install a proper driver.
Rubbish. Usually I just pass when I hear that word.

  • I am trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro 13", when i run bootcamp it tells me that there is not a windows support software available for my computer. Where can i get the windows support software for my macbook?

I am trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro 13", when i run bootcamp it tells me that there is not a windows support software available for my computer. Where can i get the windows support software for my macbook?

Apple only supports Windows on certain hardware.
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Apple provides their framework for Windows to run on a Mac, a piece of software called a Hybrid MBR that bridges the gap between how Windows reads the drive partition table (MBR) and EFI/GUID partition table that Mac's use.
It doesn't mean Windows can't run on your Mac, a third party solution called rEFIt will also bridge the gap and allow booting of more that just Windows, Linux as well for a triple booting computer.
Your hardware has to meet the other requirements the second and third operating system needs as as being able to install drivers that will work for your hardware, especially the fans or they will run loud and fast by default.
    http://refit.sourceforge.net/
This above is a advanced procedure which requires knowledge how computers and various operating systems, drive formats and so forth work.
I even admit I don't know everything myself, but I experiment on a separate piece of Mac hardware (out of warranty/AppleCare) designed for this purpose so in case something screws up I'm not taking down my only machine and can use the other to get online and find solutions.
There is a very high potential for losing your data if your using advanced/non-Apple methods to install Windows on your only Mac where Apple doesn't support it. Also one shouldn't be doing this on Mac hardware that is under AppleCare or warranty as it might be voided. Proceed at your own risk and education.

  • TS3648 'Windows support software' via bootcamp assitant stuck at about 20%

I have tried to download 'Windows support software' several times through the bootcamp assitant - However every time the download appears to get stuck at about 20% to 25% completion...!!! My internet is working fine. Any suggestions?

play around with proxy settings first. there is something that goes wrong there and in Network control panel.

    Hi,
Please try right-clicking on the Firefox installer and '''Run as administrator'''. If the problem persists, you can try to include the installer and its processes as fully trusted/allowed in any security software before starting the installation. You can also try to temporarily disable the security software for a few minutes. In this case you may also have to include the newly installed Firefox + sub processes in the security software configuration before starting Firefox.

  • Boot Camp - Windows support software server down?

I have been attempting to download the Windows support software all day but it just sits there. This is a for a new Mac Mini 2014 2.6. Boot camp assistant is really driving me crazy! I chatted with someone at Apple who tried all kinds of other solutions besides investigating the actual issue. How do I get thru to Apple that there is an issue downloading this software??????

Quite a few users have reported this. Apple, in their infinite wisdom, has removed a direct download feature. From Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Support
Boot Camp requirements by Mac model
Use the table below to find out which version of Boot Camp and Windows are supported on your Mac:
BCA: Use Boot Camp Assistant (BCA) to download the latest Boot Camp software for your Mac instead of manually downloading this software from the Apple Support website. The support software available from Boot Camp Assistant is newer than what is currently available as a manual download. Select the option to "Download the latest Windows support software from Apple" in Boot Camp Assistant to automatically get the latest Windows drivers for your Mac as part of installation.
    The version is 5.1.5766.
In some cases, switching your DNS servers from OpenDNS to Google DNS or vice-a-versa seems to help. This is a hit-and-miss solution.

  • Boot Camp Assistant stops at 50 % when trying to download Windows support software. Help! : (

    Hello.
I am just trying to install Windows on my late 2011 Macbook Pro. I clicked "Finder" -> Utilities -> Boot Camp Assistant and started downloading Windows support software. Problem is that it is stuck at 50 %. Is this a known problem? How do I solve it? Do I just have to be patient? Is there another way around?
Also, do I need an actual CD to burn or can I use an external hard drive?
I appreciate any help I can get : ) I don't know much about boot camp.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Try downloading the Windows support software from the Support site > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
Apple only supports now the external drive as the method to install the Windows support software, but if you download it from Apple Support, you can decompress the file downloaded, right-click the folder with the drivers and burn them into a CD/DVD

  • Can't complete downloading windows support software

When i strat downloading windows support software from Bootcamp in my imac 2012 its freez in half and not completed? its look like miss seeding from server or somthing else , any one have same issue plz help

Instead of downloading the Windows support software from Boot Camp Assistant, download it from the Support site to avoid problems. As you have a 2012 iMac, you have to download this support software version > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638 Note that this Windows support software only works in 64-bit Windows 7 and 8

  • Why is the Windows Support Software taking forever to download in boot camp 4.0?

Hi, everybody! First time in the forums.
I've surfed though hours of content to try and find an answer to my problem. Whenever I try to download the Windows Support Software from Boot Camp 4.0 it gets to about 20% and just lays there. Forever. I've just left it there for hours and nothing. I have a Macbook pro 13" and am using osx 10.7.4. This is my first Macbook and I'm not really familiar with a lot of the great features.
If anyone has gotten around this then please help me out! Thanks in advance!

Only you can decide. I'll wait till the 10.8.1 or 10.8.2 version comes out, thank you very much... What I meant is that huge number of ML downloaders (@ 4.5GB a pop, which is what the installer file takes up) surely must be eating serious bandwith off Apple's servers.
Tech Support will roll their eyes and suggest yet more patience!

  • Having problems downloading the latest Windows support software by Apple

Hello, I am trying to install Windos 7 in my imac, via bootcamp, but every time I try to download the latest Windows support software for my imac, using bootcamp assitant, in the beggining of my download a message appears that I can not download this software because it is not available in the Software Actualizations Server. I have seen a lot of videos as to how install windows in my imac, followed every step, but I keep on having this same problem that does not let me finish, and in the videos they do not say anything about this issue. I have had this problem since yesterday. If anyone can help me, thank you.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
I do not recommend to download the Windows support software from Boot Camp Assistant, as it often fails.
Instead, most Macs can download the Windows support software from the Apple website. Go to this website, and choose your Mac model and the Windows version you wish to install (under "Boot Camp requirements by Mac model"). Finally, download the correct Windows support software

  • HT5639 Trouble downloading Windows support software...

I have tried downloading the Windows support software a few times (via Boot Camp 5) and the download seems to stop about mid way through – any advice or similar experiences?

Sometimes Boot Camp Assistant doesn't download the Winodws support software correctly. In that case, the best you can do is to download the Windows support software from the Apple site.
Depending on the Windows version you want to install and the MacBook Pro you have, you have to download one or another version. You have the compatibility in this site > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634

  • Can't download windows support software because of a network problem

everytime I go to download the latest windows support software from apple in the bootcamp assistant it gets about 20% and fails

This happens I believe because the download is over a gig long. If you are using a flash drive or a blank DVD, I would use an ethernet connection rather than wi-fi (if that is what you are doing). It will eventually get there. This is typical.

  • Bootcamp is taking too long to download windows support software

i dont know if this is normal but i have been trying to download the windows support software from bootcamp the whole afternoon and it gets stuck in the middle of the bar.

Same problem - did all updated on my   Macboor Air 11" with Lion OSX
    Boot Camp Assistant 4.0.1 (429)
'Downloading  Windows support software' is very very slow / hanged? left it for 5 hours and the bar is not moving.
I install windows without the support software. After installing Windows tried downloading BootCamp 3.3 for Windows, but tells me it is not required - I still need the Windows Drivers for my air..... wish if there were an offline version to download!

  • HT4407 why such slow download of windows support software?

I have been trying to download the Windows support drivers for Boot Camp all day, using a wired gigabit network connection on a fibre-optic broadband supply that runs around 40Gbps. The indicator gets about half way along then refuses to move. can anyone help? there is plenty of space on the USB hard drive I'm sending the drivers to. Thank You

Is that download (Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033) compatible with MacBook Air 2013 model?  The date of it (Mar 14, 2013) predates the release of the 2013 MBA.

  • Boot camp assistant not downloading windows support software

I am trying to obtain the latest windows support software from Apple using Boot Camp Assistant 4.0.1 (429) on my iMac. The progress bar goes about 20% across, then stops moving. I've tried several times and I've give it as long as several hours to move further, but it's stuck.I need the updated drivers because my Apple Magic Trackpad has stopped working in Windows 7 under boot camp and I'm hoping that updating the drivers will fix it.
I have the latest version of firmware.
