When exporting to PDF fonts are replaced

I have had this happen several times when exporting to PDF from CS6 with no font errors, all the fonts have been changed in the PDF to another font. Not the default either, but just a different font altogether.
Has anyone heard of this or experienced this?

It is pretty easy to determine the fonts are wrong by visual inspection followed by the text edit tool in Acrobat X to confirm what font it is. The original fonts on this particular file were Gotham and they were replaced by Helvetica and our default missing font is Courier. I have found numerous threads with the same or similar problem dating back to September 2014 where they were blaming Indesign CC for the problem, with another person replying they had the same issue with CS6. Some of the advice given to them was to load the fonts locally rather than across a network to a server. The problem is not repeatable that is to say when you notice the issue with your PDF you open the file and export it again and the fonts are now correct with no changes to the file or the way you loaded the fonts. What is alarming is this is intermittent with no font warning while exporting or any further font warnings if the PDF is Normalized through Kodak Prinergy. It is like the postscript code is being written with a replacement font.
I have enclosed the thread I found and we are going to load fonts locally to see if this helps, if you have any other advice it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Report Title and Text Area issue when exported to pdf using Viewer

    Hi there,
We are using OracleBI Discoverer Version 10.1.2.55.26
We have reports that displays Report title containing the following
    - Report Title
    - Runt Date and Time
    - Page No
And text area which displays 'Last Page'
Following properties are set at the worksheet level using page setup
Report Title --> 'Print on every Page'
Text Area --> 'Print on last page'
The report when exported to PDF using Discoverer plus works fine and displays report title and text area as defeined.
But when we try to export the same report to pdf from Discoverer viewer, it displays
    - Report title on first page only.
    - text area on all pages
All our users accesses report using discoverer viewer so we cannot open discoverer plus to them.
Is there a solution which will enable us to export the report in pdf using discoverer viewer and displays the same output as discoverer plus.
Please let me know... If you have any questions then please feel free to ask.
Thanks in advance for your help...

but when opened on other os x machines some text is colored differently than it should be
Well, if typographic objects are colour managed, the colour appearance is dependent on the source ICC profile that describes the colourants in the typographic objects and the destination ICC profile that describes the colours the display is able to form and the RBC colourant combinations that will form those colours.
In general, typographic objects should have special treatment, since the expectation is not that typographic objects should be colour managed, but that typographic objects should simple be set to the maximum density of dark. On a display, that is R=0 G=0 B=0 and on a seperations device (a lithographic press) that is C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=100.
If for some reason typographic objects are colour managed, and if the ICC profiles for the displays are off by half a mile or more in relation to the actual state of the display system, then the colours will not be the same. On the other hand, if those displays are calibrated and characterized, then the colourants will be converted to form the same colours on the displays.

  • Distorted font when exporting to pdf

I'm using Tahoma font and trying to bold certain sections.  The bolded portions look odd (strange little boxes and fill is not quite solid)   when exported to pdf and viewed digitally,  The printed document is just fine however.   The bolded portion, when viewing with  acrobat pro, or adobe reader is just not crisp. I had adjusted the stroke setting of the bolded portions and thought this might be the problem, so I have tried bolding using both the regular font "Tahoma bold" and also using "Tahoma Regular" and increasing the stroke.  The effect is the same.
As the document will be both printed and viewed online, I want to make sure that I am sending something that will be viewed as crisply and professionally as possible, no matter how it is viewed.
Any ideas what my problem might be?

I wondered if that was my problem so I changed everything back to regular "tahoma bold' but I still have the problem.  I'll attach a screen capture

  • When exporting to PDF, the pictures are not the same size I "placed" them

I am "placing" pics that are 653 x 983 pixels, 300 DPI, using CS4.  However, my issue is when exporting to PDF, the PDF doesn't look like the same size I "placed" the pic until I blow it up to about 350%.  I do not have a printer set up to my computer so I can't do the print/pdf option.  Am I doing something wrong here?  I can't figure it out.  Your help is appreciated.  Thanks!

Well, right when I open the PDF, it's just way too small, imagine it being the size of a business card.  I have to keep zooming in until it gets to the size I originally intended it to be.  When I create a new document am I suppose to make it the same size as the picture?

  • Fontissue when Exporting to PDF CS5

Commented on linked thread and advised to start new tread.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/651071?tstart=0
When Exporting to PDF from ID CS5 I have seen font displace and disappear.
Have done some tests since my post on linked tread, and find out, using PDF/X_1a:2001 (PDF version 1.3), it works fine. But when I use PDF version 1.4 and above fonts randomly dissappears. See first picture below.
OK, for me as this is only going to print, but with 1.3 we loose hyperlink and bookmarks if used in other media.
Have seen font displace when Exporting to PDF, (Second picture) and in this case there was no way to get it right with options mentioned above. Only way it came out right was to outline the font...and also PS - Distiller worked fine.
I have found my workarounds, but I would really like to trust the Export to PDF in the future as that is the way Adobe advice us to use.
Workaround 1. Use PDF version 1.3
    Workaround 2.
In (application folder) Adobe Indesign CS5 - Presets
Make a new folder - PPDs
Put (ADPDF8.PPD or ADPDF9.PPD) into this folder. (I had a backup of these files, cant find them online...!?!?)
Makes it possible to print PS from InDesign and use Distiller.

    @Clement,
We've determined the root case of the text shifts you're seeing in at least one of the cases. In the Animals_Me_Spreads.indd file is having text drop out due to soft returns at the ends of Text on Path objects. We are investigating what would be necessary to fix it, and would hope that we can address it in a future update or release. In the meantime, you should be able to elimiate the problems by eliminating the use of soft returns on Text on Path objects, for example, replace them with hard returns, or limit one story to a path and make the second path contain a separate story.
    Sincerely,
    Matthew

  • Images downsized and converted when exporting to PDF

I have Pagemaker 7.0.1 installed on Virtual XP so that I can help out a family member.
Pagemaker's embedded Acrobat 4 was not working properly so I installed my Acrobat 9.0 on Virtual XP. This unfortunately has not solved the problem, which is:
My images are greyscale and 300 ppi when imported into Pagemaker. When exported to PDF using Acrobat 9.0, the images are being converted to CMYK and exported at about 50% of the actual size. Interestingly, those images that are only at 200 ppi are converted but not downsampled.
This is happening no matter how I fiddle with the settings. Happens to both jpegs and tiffs.
I found an old thread on another forum where this problem occurred but a solution was not found or posted.
    Any ideas?
    Michelle

This reply is a series of comments and suggestions rather than a definitive answer.
    1. Your set up is less than perfect, if not unstable, and will be prone to all sorts of bizarre behaviours.
    2. Never copy/paste a graphic or table into PageMaker.  Always use the Place command. The only "exception" would be that you can copy and paste a properly Placed graphic from within your PageMaker document.
When placing images in a PageMaker file, the following message appears: “The graphic in the linked file would occupy xxxxxxx bytes in the publication. Include the complete copy in the publication anyway?” The correct answer to this question is always "NO".
(You can permanently avoid this popup in future docs by unchecking "store copy in publication" under Element -> Link Options with no publication open. You can do the same to avoid further prompts in pre-existing documents.)
    3. Try updating PM to Ver 7.0.1a which had a better Export… AdobePDF…macro. http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=34&platform=Windows
    4. In PageMaker’s Print dialogue, click on the Options button, and check "Write PostScript to File." Select the "Normal" radio button. Set both Type 1 and TrueType fonts to download. As always, set the Send TIF/Images option to Normal and NOT Optimized. Make other settings elsewhere in the print dialog as desired, such as "paper" size, crop marks, separations, etc.
    5. With your non-standard setup, try the two stage print then distill process. Create a PS file using a postscript printer file, then load Distiller and convert the PS file to PDF.  Note: if you have hyperlinks in your PMD file, they will not appear in your PDF and need to be re-created using Acrobat.
    6. It's time to leave PM and move on to InDesign - see it as PM Ver 13.
    7. Aternatively, use PM7 on a contemporary Win2K PC.  http://bigjohnd.org.uk/PageMakerExportPDF/index.htm

  • Error in character spacing when exporting to pdf from word 07

I am having trouble with exporting to pdf from MS Word 07.  The character spacing throughout the document is wacky.  This also happens when exporting to pdf from a GIS program.
    Any help?

I use the term export because that is how it is done in the GIS software that I use - ArcMap 10.
In MS Word I access Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 through the print menu. I am using Windows 7.
I do not always have this trouble, but it started yesterday on a 30 page word doc and then after that, it started on an ArcMap doc.
As for embedding fonts, when I check the Word doc as you suggested, i see many different fonts listed.  Some are embedded, some embedded subset, some are not embedded at all.  I use styles to manage font types and heading levels.  There is nothing fancy about it - all Times New Roman.

  • Format Changes when Exporting to PDF

I'm using Crystal 12.0 and have an issue very similar to these threads listed below.
While viewing a report on my development machine, all is fine.  I can export to PDF and the formatting is OK.
However, when the report is exported to PDF on the web server, the spacing between some of the text is off.  The spacing is used for a CrossTab cell in a "Display String" that I changed using "Format Field."   All that's supposed to happen here is several spaces are used to move the text under the proper column.
When exporting to PDF on the web, the text moves over to the left like it's missing some of the spaces.  I wondering if the below threads apply to Crystal 12.0.
    Thread:1220516 and
Format Changes when Exporting to PDF
    Thanks kindly for your assistance,
    -Marty

I'm having a very similar problem using Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2008. Everything is perfect when running in VS 2008, it takes the report and exports it to PDF format via VB code. The PDF file is idenitcal to the report. However, when run on the server the one page report (when exported to PDF) gets chopped into ten 4x4 chunks. So the PDF file is 10 pages....its like puzzle pieces of the original.
I've drawn a bunch of lines on the report to look like boxes - perhaps this is causing issues? The font on the report is Arial.
The server has the 10_5 runtime installed and it is set to the same default printer as the development PC. I have been stuck on this for days and would really appreciate any advice you may have.
    Thanks!

  • Text dropping when exporting to PDF

I'm working on an very large poster for a theatre company. The poster has an image, and uses the font Gotham for the text. When I export to PDF from InDesign 5.5, some of the text disappears. I used effects on the title, which disappears, but also some text at the same size/color as other text that does show up. It can't be a corrupt font issue because it's showing up correctly in most areas. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

I'm using Acrobat X. I've attached a cap of the InDesign poster, and what I get when exporting to PDF -- I lose the title, and "Directed by..." (which is the same type size/color as the playwright). Also, I have overprint preview checked for automatic (and tried all the other settings, too).

  • Any way to reduce the resolution when exporting to .pdf

We are emailing reports.  On some reports with a large number of jpegs we are hitting a size limitation.  It would be helpful to reduce the resolution on the jpegs when exporting to .pdf.  Any way that would be possible?

    Hi,
    Need more info-
VS version? or the developing application?
CR Version? Are you directly emailing your reports from CR designer?
Also once the image is fetched by the report, we can not make any changes in the image, as a work around you need to do required changes in the image before adding it to the reports, and as far as I know it is not possible through code, but we can wait for other responses though.
    Sincerely,
    Amit

  • Formatting and alignment issues in Crystal Reports when exported to PDF

    Hi Experts,
When we export the crystal reports 2013 reports to PDF we are facing issues with formatting and alignment. The columns are overlapping and also for some column's data, we are able to see only some parts of text when exported to PDF.
Data source for these reports is EHP 7 (SAP ECC 6.0), BO 4.1, Crystal reports 2013.
As these reports are on priority, your help and suggestions are much appreciated.
Looking forward to hear from you guys.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vijay.

    Hi Vijay,
Search for the following in the search bar at the top right of SCN's page:
    ForceLargerFonts
    UsePrecisePositioningForText
    TruncationAdjustment
All these are registry keys that you might need to apply on the machine.

  • Background missing when export to PDF CS5.5

    Hi,
I have seen some similar posts (all non-current) to the one I am writing however, my issues are not solved by the solutions posted in previous discussions.
My problem is that when I am exporting an IND file to PDF, when I open the PDF all of my background images are missing. In most examples this is a full page black box. But since testing this problem I have encountered the same issue with any colour and some photographs.
I am working in CS5.5, with all software up to date (version 7.5.3)
I have tested this in new documents and old documents that previously would have exported the background.
These items are not on master pages. I have tested this on brand spankin new pages and existing ones (with and without any elements on master pages)
I have tested the boxes with and without transparency.
There is no issue with overprint or the overprint preview check box.
I have tried saving the file as an .IDML and reopening to see if it will 'debug' the file. I have exported the PDF as every kind of option. I have restarted the computer and the program several times. I have checked for new updates.
The only way that I have 'cracked' this issue so far is to break the one large background image into at least 3 overlapping solid boxes. It seems that you cant have any box overlap more than 2 page boundaries.
Is anyone else having this problem or any other advice on what to try.
    Thank you

    Hi Eugene,
The document in question is 1) not using master pages and 2) not using spreads. Its a single page A4 document.
    Hi Peter,
Sorry I am not trying to span two pages. My comment was that the graphic box seems to glitch when it touches more than 2 boundaries of the page ie left right top bottom.
I am using the full creative suite CS5.5, no hacks, no substitute programs.
I have attached a few screen captures.
    Sample file in indesign:
Screen capture when exported to PDF:
split the background box into 2 (i have used 2 blacks so you can see the boundary). Export to PDF:

  • Indesign CS6 8.0.1. crashes when exporting a PDF

I am having a problem with Indesign CS6 8.0.1. When exporting a PDF Indesign crashes everytime. Here is the crash report http://pastebin.com/qYu9cWwP
    I am on a mac running 10.7.5

I don't know what it means, but the crashed thread is making the same call: 511 com.adobe.InDesign.Print            0x17bf6703 GetPlugIn + 497427 more than 500 times. Are you exporting to PDF, or printing?

  • Alignement issue when exporting to PDF

    Hello,
I'm having some alignment issues when exporting an InDesign file to PDF.
I have a couple of square pictures, touching eachother at the edges. These are aligned bang on in InDesign (the lines overlap), but when exporting to a PDF and viewing in there, it seems that some seem to jump up slightly.
Is this just a display issue or a setting issue when exporting to PDF?
    Thanks
    Benny

The detail is cropped too tight for me to tell how many photos are intersecting there. Is there a vertical intersection as well? If not, I think you're looking at a very slightly non-rectangular frame, if there is, then you might still be looking at a non-rectangular frame, or the frames are not perfectly aligned, which doesn't surprise me if you snapped to a guide -- I find that less than 100% reliable since CS6.
Presuming that you've zoomed in to show us the problem, that's probably a single pixel misalignment and you'd be very hard pressed to see it in printed output without a loupe.
You can check the bottom edge of the top photo, and the top edge of the bottom photo(s) for being out of horizontal by using the direct select tool to select the corner points and seeing if the y-coordinate is the same on both sides of the frame.
My printer tell me to always overlap frames, rather than butting them, for trapping, for what that's worth, but I don't always do what he says, and I've never had a problem.

  • Fuzzy vector graphics when exporting to PDF?

    Hi all,
I've switched to Fireworks from Omnigraffle because I work in a Windows environment and there isn't a Windows-compatible version of Omnigraffle available.
I've noticed that when I export mockups/wireframes that I create in Fireworks to PDF, that the vector images are all fuzzy, as if anti-aliasing has gone overboard. This never happens when I create mocks/frames in Omnigraffle - what I see on the screen is what I get from the printer.
Should I be adjusting my settings in Fireworks somehow, say changing the DPI settings when creating a document, turning anti-aliasing off with text, or anything like that? Is there some magic bullet combination that will give me clean wireframes with crisp, clear edges (including text) in Fireworks?
    Thanks so much!

We are having a similar issue. Importing a perfectly justified word document as an OLE Object in Crystal.  The document seems perfect in the viewer but when exported to PDF, the text seems to overlap each other and there are huge spaces between words.  Using Crystal 11 release 2 (version 11.5.8.826).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
