The iphone is designed to be synced to your computer or cloud service regularly. Your contacts will be in whatever program/service that you have chosen to sync.

If you encrypt the backup, you can transfer the keychain information to the new device. With an unencrypted backup, you can restore the keychain only to the same iOS device. If you're restoring to a new device with an unencrypted backup, you need to enter these passwords again.

You can back up your old iPhone with iTunes. Then restore your new iPhone from your old iPhone's backup. You can also use third party apps to only transfer old iphone notes to your new iphone.

Where are my Camera Roll pics n videos saved in iTunes(Laptop) when I backed up my iPhone to iTunes?
I backed up my iPhone today in order to save my Camera Roll pictures and videos safely in my Laptop and then I deleted them from my iPhone to make some free space.... And I want those pictures and videos in future back into my iPhone. So I know I must restore my iPhone from back up to get back the camera roll pics and vids. But what I want to know is, where are those pictures and videos saved in my Windows Laptop when I backed up my iPhone to iTunes today? There must be some folder of iTunes or somewhere in the iTunes software where they must be saved after backing up. I want to see them on my Laptop now but how can I do that?
I did not import them, I backed up my iPhone to my Laptop using iTunes.
I want to see those pictures on my Laptop since I deleted them from my iPhone after backing up. Where are they in my Laptop now???they are in the backup file that, sadly, is not accesible unless you restore it to a phone... if you want/need access to them, you should import them

I have a problem.
I have an iPhone that has already been synced with an HP laptop. This PC is now in need of repair but the price of repair was too costly so I bought a MacBook Pro to replace it.
I would like to now sync my iPhone with my new MacBook using iTunes but when I attempt this I get a message stating that all the information in my iPhone will be replaced by all the information in iTunes (which is nothing). I cannot afford to lose all the information in my iPhone but also I cannot update my iPhone using iTunes because it has not been paired with my new MacBook and I am told that it can only be paired with one computer at a time. I cannot unpair it with my old PC because my old PC doesn't even boot up anymore.
I was told that I could Backup the information in my iPhone by control clicking on the icon in the toolbar to the left of the iTunes screen which would then let me sync safely. I have now done this but I still have nothing to show for this in the iTunes library (no music, photos, notes, contacts etc.) and I have no idea where this backup has been stored.
Also in the help menu in iTunes it says that media files such as songs, videos and some photos AREN'T backed up but can be restored by syncing with iTunes (how is this possible to restore something that hasn't been backed up in the first place?).
I am really stuck with this and hope that someone out there can help.
LeighThe first step in the sync process is to create a backup. On a mac this backup is located at
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup. The backup does not included iTunes media as it is assumed to be in the iTunes library you are syncing with. Also, as you have discovered, when you first sync with a new iTunes library iTunes will erase all iTunes media on the phone (music, videos, etc.) and replace it with the media in the library you are syncing with. Photos from Camera Roll (which are taken by the phone) are part of the backup. Photos in Photo Library (which were synced to your phone from your computer) are not; again, because it is assumed they are already on your computer as that is how they were synced to your phone in the first place.

When I plug my iphone into my itunes it does not come up in the Source list what do I do so I can add music to my phone.? Its the same for Ipod touch it will not connect.

What version of iTunes are you running on your computer? You need to update to the current version.

I recently backed up my iphone to itunes, when after backing up a message showed that I needed to update my iphone. I clicked ok, and after updating, it said I had to restore my phone to its factory settings. I cannot find where it backed up all of my pictures from my phone.
If you backed up the device, all the data is in the backup. Restore the backup.
A better question is why would an intelligent person not copy the pictures from the device to the computer regularly, especially before attempting an update, as the device is designed to be used? -
i backed up my iphone to itunes and tried restoring the info on to a new iphone and for some reason it used an old back up from last may. I know that the recent back up worked as I used it to set up another phone a week ago (a phone whihc also had problems and hence I needed to use that same back up again on my second new phone. An iPhone backup to a computer via iTunes stores the photos in a backup file that is only meant to be be used if needed to restore back to the phone. There is 3rd party "extractor" software available but otherwise the photos are not directly viewable.
The backup via iTunes was a good idea and your Camera Roll photos should be there and should be able to be restored to your new phone. However if it was me I wouldn't rely on that alone. I would also import the photos to a computer where you can see and verify that you have a copy. That is a good idea at any time (not just when you know you might need it). Any phone can be lost, broken, suffer hardware issues, etc at any time and lose all data on it. I have an iphone 5. I have no idea of the ios version in it. Recently i broke my iphone screen and its showing up nothing. it was never synced to itunes or to any pc. When i tried to connect iphone to itunes in my pc it was asking for passcode which i had forgotten ages ago. Suggest me the possible ways to recover my iphone.
Since the screen doesn't work, it will be challenging to get it working, even thru iTunes. You will need to ask yourself if you want to invest more money in it or get a new one, especially since the contents will be lost since you don't know the passcode. Apple will gladly replace the screen for a cost that represents a significant portion of the price of a new. Once the screen is done, you may or may not be eligible for the free iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program.
Or, if you decide to salvage it and are strong of heart and firm of hand, you can replace the screen yourself for less. See here and note they carry kits with all needed tools and parts. -

Check USB connections
Related errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response,” and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.
