When I boot up I get a complete white screen and can't access any thing including task bar. When I right click and hit properties it says it is a Firefox docum

I downloaded a video in a zip file, when it started the whole window went white. When I right click on the screen under properties it tells me it is a Firefox document. I rebooted to fix the problem and I saw a brief view of my wallpaper and desktop icons then back to the white screen. When I boot up or log in to the admin account (guest account is fine) I get a pure white screen. I cannot access any thing including the task bar. The only way out is to reboot and the problem repeats. I have booted with my anti virus program and it finds no problems. When I exit the anti virus program there is the brief view of the desktop and back to the white screen. HELP, I don't want to lose everything because I have to reload the OS.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Command+Shift+F).

If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top of the screen to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.<br />
Click the Maximize button (top right corner of the Navigation Toolbar) to leave full screen mode or right-click empty space on a toolbar and choose "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press the F11 key.

  • When I open safari I get a blank white screen.

When I open safari I get a blank white screen. When I open top sites, and choose google, the screen is still blank, with the search bar at the top a quarter full. If it does open, it suddenly becomes unresponsive and returns to that blank, white screen. I'v tried everything I can think of, but nothing works.
On a side note, everything from mail to iphoto to word works - just not safari. I'm using a mid-11 iMac 21.5"i5 running on mountain lion.
Also did I post this in the right place? I'm new to this.

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari if it’s running. Then select
     ▹ Force Quit…
from the menu bar. A small window will open with a list of running applications. Safari may appear in that list, even though you quit it. If so, select it and press return. Close the window.
    Step 1
In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. Select the Safari icon in that folder and press the key combination command-I to open the Info window. There’s a checkbox in the Info window labeled Open in 32-bit mode. Uncheck it, if checked. Close the Info window and the Applications folder.
If Adobe Flash Player is installed, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
Hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
    Caches/com.apple.Safari
    Caches/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess
    Caches/Metadata/Safari
    Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginHost.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess.plist
    Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Leave the Library folder open. Try Safari again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder. If you still have problems, continue.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    open $TMPDIR../C
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Quit Safari again. Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). A folder should open. If there's a subfolder with the name "com.apple.Safari", delete it, even if it's empty. Quit Terminal. Close the folder. Launch Safari and test.
    Step 3
If Safari still doesn’t work right, quit, go back to the Finder and move the following items from the open Library folder to the Desktop (some may not exist):
    Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
    Internet Plug-Ins
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.LSSharedFileList.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.WebFoundation.plist
    PubSub/Database
    Safari
(Note: you are not moving the Safari application. You’re moving a folder named “Safari.”)
Try again. This time Safari should perform normally, but your settings and bookmarks will be lost. The default set of bookmarks will be restored. Delete them all.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Safari again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were, overwriting the newer ones that may have been created in their place. You don’t need to replace the files you deleted in step 1. Stop here and post again.
If Safari is now working normally (apart from the lost settings), look inside the “Safari” folder on the Desktop for a file named “Bookmarks.plist”. Select
    File ▹ Import Bookmarks
from the Safari menu bar. Import from that file. Recreate the rest of your Safari settings. You can then delete the items you moved to the Desktop.
Note: This step will remove your Safari Extensions, if any, and their settings. If you choose to restore them, do so one at a time, testing after each step to make sure you haven’t restored the problem.
If you don’t like the results of step 3, you can undo it completely by quitting Safari and restoring the items you moved or deleted in that step from your backup, overwriting any that were created in their place.

Can you still boot to the Recovery partition using Command and R whilst booting? Or did you wipe the Recovery partition as well?
If your Recovery partition is still intact, you can simply boot to it and reinstall the OS via the Internet. If you wiped the Recovery partition, you can hold down Command, option and R keys whilst booting and boot into true Internet Recovery mode. You'll be able to reformat the hard drive, erasing all partitions (format it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with a dingle GUID partition) and then reinstall the OS that shipped with your machine.
Note that you should use a physical Ethernet connection when restoring over the Internet - it's three times slower if you use wifi.
Try your Recovery partition first and if that doesn't work, use Internet Recovery.

  • My MacBook pro will not start up. when I boot up, it stays on a white screen

I have a MacBook pro. My hard drive went out and I recently put a new one in it. Now when I Try to turn it on, it stays on a white screen and says loading but never does. I have Mac OS X install disc 1 and 2, and says when you put the cd in to hold down c, but every time I try, it just ejects the cd. Please help!!!Not sure of what operating system it has, or if it even has one. It had Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I am complete rookie to working on apple in general.

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Issue when signing into adobe I get a blank white screen

what seems happening is when they log into their adobe account, it will go to a blank white screen and seem to cycle till it eventually times out and gets a connection error.  However, if they type in "adobe.com"  it will show them as having logged in.
This is happening on ie, and firefox and is not profile specific meaning I can log into the computer under my credentials and experience the same thing.
I've tried the usual suggestions such as renaming the OOBE folder, deleting temp files, etc.
I'm thinking it's some kind of issue with adobe flash player.  Any guidance with this would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Greg

  • Received notice to update software on my 24" iMac - after it re-booted, all i get is a whit screen.  Have tried turning it off, then on - still the white screen.

Received SW update notice (from Apple) this morning for my 24" iMac.  After it re-bootd, all that appeared is a white screen - no icons, just white.  I re-booted, again - just a white screen.

Start up using your original install discs by inserting the disc and holding the C key while rebooting. Run Disk Utility to repair the drive and restart. If everything goes ok run Software Update again.

  • When turned on all I get is a white screen with a black strip...

I just bought a Macbook on 3 days ago and it was taken out of the box that night. I used it the next day and put it on my dresser until just now when I went to use it again. Any ideas?

Logic board malfunction. Take it back to the store and exchange it.

  • I installed 10.6.8 from 10.6.6 on my Macbook Pro and now can't open Safari-think it's something to do with the Intego anti-virus software. Reverted Intego software back to default state and now computer just boots ups up slowly and can't access a thing.

I installed 10.6.8 from 10.6.6 OS on my MacBook Pro and have not been able to open secure sites on Safari.  Think it has something to do with the Intego Anti-virus installed.  Tried restoring Intego to default status and now my Mac barely boots up and does nothing else but spin.  Ugh.  Has anyone had similar issues and if so, were you able to resolve?  How?  Thanks,

1: Backup your user files folders of Documents, Music, Pictures etc., to a external powered drive (not TimeMachine) and disconnect.
2: Insert the 10.6 installer disk and reboot holding c
3: Simply reinstall OS X without erasing the drive, it will overwrite the installed version of OS X and the root level software, but leave your Applications folder contents (expect Apple bundled programs) and user files alone. (but backup anyway in case it fails)
4: Reboot and the Integro is gone out of your system, but there may still be something laying around in Applicaitons to delete. Use Software Update to get up to date.
5: You don't need anti-virus on a Mac, Apple provides it already for you sight unseen.
6: If you Software update, the bad certificate issues are pulled, thus are not a threat.

  • Safari only partially loads certain web pages. The menu bar on a page is completely missing so I can't access any of the site

where that white bar is above the login should be a menu bar. It never loads and I cannot access a number of pages on the site. Is there anyway to correct this?

    Hello Siobhan86,
It looks like your iPad is not loading this webpage correctly all of a sudden. I would start by quitting Safari:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
If the issue persists, I would next clear the website data for Safari in Settings:
Safari settings - iPad User Guide
Go to Settings > Safari, where you can:
Clear your history, cookies, and data
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • When opening a second window, homepage doesn't open and can't access any other site, stays a blank white screen.

After updating to Firefox 6, every time I open a second window, all I get is a blank, white page. My homepage doesn't open, either, even when I hit the home button. I have to manually type in my homepage address, and then, it's the only address that will show in the address bar, even after I leave the page or open any other tabs. The same thing happens when I open new tabs in the second window. Also, the back and forward arrows, stop, and refresh buttons do not work in the second window. None of the short-cut keys on the keyboard will work with in the second window, either. Most of the time, any page that I go to, in the second window, continues to load, never fully loading.
I even went back to Firefox 5 to see if that would solve the problem, but it didn't. I still have the same issues.
Everything appears to be working fine in the first window.
How can I clear all this up?
EDIT: I waited a few days and reinstalled Firefox 6.0 and everything seems to be working okay.

There's a good chance this is related to a bug that kicks in when you do not have Flash running in any tab and you open a new window to a page that does use Flash. The details are in this recent thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/955659 Opening New Windows and Shockwave Flash].
I don't know whether opening a Flash site in a private window makes this problem occur more frequently. Maybe it does because the new window is more isolated from the previous one???

  • I am really upset because I have a subscription to Readers Digest on my iPad and can't access my issues.  It asks me for a password and ID I don't have and I can't figure out how to get help from apple or readers digest.

Need help and Apple or Reader's Digest are no help

There is a customer service 800 number on here that may be of some help for you (I hope)
EDIT. I had a link that was working and now it will not work. OK - this is really ticking me off now. Here is a C&P.
    1.
Where can I download the Reader's Digest magazine app?
You can download the app from the Apple App Store : click to RD page in iTunes
    2.
How much does the app cost?
It is free to download the app and there’s a gratis previous issue you can sample. Once you’ve downloaded the app, you can buy individual issues ofReader’s Digest for $3.99 each - the same price you’d pay for the print magazine at a newsstand.
    3.
Can I buy a subscription to Reader’s Digest magazine on the iPad?
Yes. You can get a month-to-month subscription for $1.99 per issue, or you can get a yearly subscription for $14.99.
    4.
I already subscribe to the print version of Reader’s Digest. Can I get the digital issues as part of my subscription?
Yes, for a limited time, U.S. print subscribers can access iPad editions for free. That includes all the additional videos, slide shows, additional articles and cartoons - a terrific value! Just tap the red button at the top right of the screen and follow the instructions. You’ll need the mailing label from a recent issue to enter your subscriber information. Once registered, your email address and ZIP code will serve as your log in username and password.
    5.
Where on the mailing label can I find my subscription account number?
As indicated in the image below, the account number is on the second line from the top of your mailing label. It has 10 digits.
    6.
I entered my account number and ZIP code, but nothing is happening. What should I do?
Call our toll-free Customer Service number: 877-342-4775.
    7.
Is access to the iPad app included for international subscribers?
We’re sorry, but access is available only to subscribers in the United States at this time.
    8.
I’m not seeing a subscription option in my in-app Store  - what gives?
You need to update your app in order to subscribe.
    9.
What content is included in the app?
Everything that is in the print magazine is also in the app. Plus, bonus photos, articles, videos, cartoons and animation, graphics, and various interactive features.
    10.
What devices can the app be used with?
It is available only for the iPad at this time.
    11.
Will new issues be delivered to the app automatically?
Not automatically, but you will receive a notification when each new issue becomes available. If you have subscribed to the app you can download it immediately. If not, you can choose to purchase and download the individual issue.
    12.
Will the issues I purchase expire?
No. Once you purchase an issue, you will have access to it for as long as you keep the app.
    13.
About how much memory does one issue take up?
An average issue will take up between 300 and 500 megabytes. With a good WiFi connection, it should take only a few minutes to download.
    14.
If I delete an issue, can I download it again for free later?
Yes. Simply touch the home icon in the upper left corner of your app to go to see all available issues. Tap the “archive” button next to an issue to remove it from your iPad and free up disc space. You can re-download it for free at any time.
    15.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Your subscription will renew automatically each month (for monthly subscribers) or each year (for annual subscribers) unless you take action to cancel it. To do so, open the "Settings" app on your iPad and select “Store.” Tap on your Apple ID and select “View Apple ID.” Once your account information appears, scroll down to "Manage App Subscriptions." Here you can turn your subscriptions off and on.
    16.
Can I share the digital issue with friends?
No. There are currently no share features available.
