When I choose a bright color, it changes to a dim color in my workspace

I am working with text and have selected a bright green color: C -49% M-0% Y-100% K-0% (377FF00). However, when I attempt to select this color, the color is automatically changed to a much dimmer color (#8E36CE) but shows the same CMYK numbers. What am I doing wrong and how do I set my file to be able to use bright colors? Many thanks.

Are you working on a RGB or CMYK project, in other words digital or print. RGB is usually brighter than CMYK. If you are working with hex numbers, you should be inputting your colors in RGB not cmyk.
Make sure file >> Document Color Mode is set to the correct color space
Turn off Only Web Colors if you are working in print or not saving to a file format which usuaes only web colors.

Why is the font color on the Colorful Tabs changing when I choose a new Personna, when it never did before?

When "allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above" is un-checked in the options menu, I am unable to see images on websites. How do I maintain having the box un-checked and still view images?

I recently decided to switch the colors around in Firefox. I work in a pretty dark environment and having dark colored text on white or bright backgrounds is rather difficult on my eyes in the dark.
I switched the background to a dark gray, the text to a light gray and both visited and unvisited links to a light blue. Along with these changes, I unchecked the "allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above" box.
After unchecking the box, I am no longer able to view images on many websites. The images all turn gray - as if Firefox has changed their image into part of the background. When I check the box, I am able to see images fine, however, the websites usually revert back to their bright backgrounds with dark text.
Any help and assistance with this is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for replying again. I've got a little bit further thanks to you. I tried the US keyboard layout as you seemed pretty definte that it should work. This time I applied the setting and also started the language toolbar and selected it from there.
Hey presto, I've got the @ where it should be. Excellent.
However the single quote ' works in a weird way. When I press it, it doesn't show up on the screen. But when I press another key, I get the single quote plus the next key I press. When I press the single quote twice, I get 2 of them. This is also the same with the SHIFT ' key. i.e. for the double quotes.
Very strange. I'll look at other keyboards and see where that gets me.

I also know the sequnce is alt t, alt o, alt c, alt a, then ok, ok. Got to be a way to make a one key short cut for this. I use a black background to reduce eye strain, but about 10% of the webpage I go to can't be send with black so I have to go into tools and hit 6 or 7 things to chnage it then after through with webpage have to do it all over at Not allow webpages to have own color. Very very cumbersome.

Check your document color mode and the mode of the color picker as well as your color managemnt settings. You can't print certain colors in CMYK and AI is correctly adjusting gamut based on your settings on that assumption. Work in RGB if you need "pure" colors.

When I use the Recolor Artwork tool to change all the colors on an image at once, I can't figure out how to get it to let me choose from my color groups in my library. I have my library loaded on the side panel, but it won't let me choose from then when I use this otherwise awesome tool. Help, what's the trick?

Working with CMYK for the first time - no bright colors in CMYK?

I have a project for school and have been told to use CMYK. i've never used CMYK before and know nothing about it other than CMYK standing for Cyan Magenta Yellow Key.
is it not possible to get bright, neon-y colors (the kind of color that is in the upperright hand side of the color box, like this green for example) ? when i try to choose colors like that, photoshop chooses a darker color instead, giving me a warning sign that the one i chose is "out of gamut for printing". is there anyway around this?

It is not possible to get bright, saturated greens in CMYK. Here's a plot of the color gamut (available colors) of sRGB, the web colorspace (wireframe) compared to SWOP CMYK (the solid color area). See how in the bright greens there's a huge hole missing in the SWOP gamut.
You can work in RGB, and soft-proof CMYK (View > proof colors), converting as you save out a file for print. Don't worry too much, as most greens you see in print have this same limitation, and as long as you don't hold a neon green up for comparison, they usually look OK.

Tint: How does one choose a tint color?

I've had Aperture 3 for a few months now, but I have never satisfactorily understood how the tint function works.
I'd like to "brush" a white tint into a yellow toothed smile to get rid of yellow teeth. Is that possible? When I choose the tint function now, a green tint appears and I have no idea how to change it to white. Any advice would be great.

If you want to change a yellowish color to white, that is not a problem of changing the the tint, it is a problem of changing the saturation and the luminance (intensity).
The are three basic properties of a color: the hue (or tint), the saturation, and the luminance (or intensity).
If you modify the hue (or tint) you shift the color along the color wheel towards the pupple blue end of the rainbow colors or towards the yellow red end of the rainbow colors.
If you change the saturation you change the colors from vividly colored to pale.
If you change the intensity you change from dark to light, or black to white.
To remove any color, and to make tinted teeth pearly white, increase the intensity (from dark to light) and remove any saturation, make the color pale. This is best done with the color controls.
