When I click a link on most pages, it opens in a new window/tab with just *go to a website* in the address bar.
This happens from links in my email and links from websites. Is there a setting somewhere that I botched that hides web addresses from me?
It however, doesn't happen every time I click a link.. strangeness.
FF 9.0.1
Windows 7 x64
For the list of teachers there are email addresses in the right hand column, did you click on an email address?
If you did that could explain the multiple tabs being opened. What may have happened is you have the mailto protocol set to open Firefox which results in 100s of tabs opening when you click on an email address. For details on fixing that see [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]], in particular the section on "Change the action for a content type". My guess is you will find mailto is set to "Use Firefox".

I want all pages to open in a new window when I click on a link, and do not want tabs.
I just downloaded Firefox on my Mac laptop. I don't like using tabs, but prefer new web pages to open in a new window. What command do I use to achieve that?
Look at:
*Tab Killer: http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/_tabkiller.html.en
Use: Download Latest Version (via HTTP) and install via File > Open File -
When I open a link in a website it opens as a new window instead of just staying on the same page
In any website, when I click on a link it opens in a new window.this even occurs in google when I click any of the results it opens in a new window instead of just staying on the same page.tabs work fine however, it is just links on websites.
Did you check the search settings on the Google Search Settings page?
* http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en
''Where results open: Open search results in a new browser window.''
You can set the browser.link.open_newwindow pref to 1 to open links by default in the current tab.
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow (3)
You can set this pref to 0 (zero) to do this for all widows opened via JavaScript.

Links to files doesn't open in a new window
I've noticed that links (that refers to a specific file) created in Adobe Indesign doesn't open in a new window like the links that refers to a website when I autoconverts it in Acrobat Pro X.
Example:
LINK1: http://www.acrobat.com/testfile.pdf <--- does not open in a new window when clicked
LINK2: http://www.acrobat.com/testfolder <--- opens in a new window when clicked
Are there any way to fix this?
Will the same problem occur if I create the links in Acrobat instead?
I'm asking this because I don't want the form to disappear when the links are clicked.
Best,
MikeyFirefox should divert the new window to a new tab when you check this box in Google's Search Settings:
"Open search results in a new browser window"
I can't think of any reason for Firefox to divert a new window back into ''the same tab''.
In case one of your add-ons is the culprit, could you try Firefox's Safe Mode?
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox using Help>Restart with Add-ons Disabled. Don't check any of the boxes in the [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode] dialog, just Continue in Safe Mode.
Does it make any difference? -
With Mavericks I have to hold command key down and double click to get a sub folder to open in a new window. Can I go back to just double clicking ?
Of course. To do it, open a Finder window, go to Finder menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > General, and untick "Open folders in tabs instead of new windows".

I need to just double click on every folder and have it open in a new window every time, as before. Can I do that?
Finder -> Preferences -> General -> uncheck "Open folders in tabs instead of new windows"

When right click on link in search page it takes me to where it wants not page
If I search from au.yahoo.com or google (search pages I always use), it brings up a list of suggested sites. If I right click on one of the suggested links and choose to open in new tab or just click on the link, it won't take me to the page listed. It seems to take me to what other site it suddenly feels like taking me to. There is no set site it takes me to, just a huge variety of them. I have done a registry clean, I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, I have done a pc clean and have run malaware program.
If you right-click the link and use Copy Link Location, then paste into the address bar, and press Alt+Enter, does Firefox load the correct site in the new tab? If so, it does unfortunately sound like the nasty malware sometimes called the Google Redirect Virus. This recent thread has a lot of suggestions: [https://support.mozilla.com/nl/questions/873812 90% of the time I get redirected to a destructive site (according to WOT) when I click on a search result. | Firefox Support Forum | Firefox Help].

When on a page if I click on a web link I get a new window that is blank and asks me enter a web address. This started happening with the new 3.6 version. It seems to have something to do with what I choose for the location in my privacy settings as the window changes with each setting but I still cannot get to the new site. Any ideas? I have no problem with this in IE and I have to keep opening IE when I encounter the problem on Firefox which is annoying.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") -

Out of the blue, just a few minutes ago, every time I click on a link, it opens in a new window. It is very frustrating and annoying, and I don't know why this is happening. Also, when I start to type in the navigation bar, the first letter shows up as a capital even though caps lock is not on. I think the problems are related, but I don't know how.
Wow, just as soon as I posted this, everything went back to normal.

Target for a .pdf with the link target _blank does not open in a new window.
I have a simple html document with links to .pdf documents all set to _blank but only one opens in a new window. The others open as _self. Changing the target doesn't seem to make a difference.
Any idea as to why that is happening? The Template .dwt file is only used locally by DW itself, there's no reason to upload it to the server unless you intend to share it with someone. You have to upload each individual page that the Template updates, every time you update the template and propagate that change across the child pages.
It would probably be better to use a server side include. That way, you could update one file then upload it and all of your pages would automatically carry that update...

But now when I type it in the address bar, it takes me to Google search results for orkut and then from there I have to click on the website. Can anyone help me solve this problem? This happedned after I deleted my Default Profile of my Firefox.
