When I click on a link, tabs open continuously and rapidly until I close the browser. How do I stop it?

Every time I click on a link, multiple tabs open rapidly, one after another, until I close the browser. This does not happen when I use Internet Explorer.
This happened
Every time Firefox opened

Firefox includes options of how to handle different content types, in your case the mailto links are probably set to "Use Firefox". For details of how to fix this see Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows, in particular the section "Change the action for a content type".

You can look at the browser.link.open_newwindow prefs on the about:config page if you want to divert all JavaScript window.open() calls to a new tab.

• When I click on a link, it opens in a new window but the window is BLANK and I can't type anything. I have firefox 3.5.2

when I click on a link to open something in a new window, it opens a new window but it's blank!!! it's driving me nuts and I did update Firefox, but since I thought that was the problem I decided to install an older version of Firefox instead. please help!!!

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See
* Troubleshooting extensions and themes
* Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

I am still having the same problem. I did what you said to do, but it didn't help. I cleared all of firefox's cache and still doesn't work.

I have not found a way for the email hypertext to go to the FaceBook App, but I no longer click on the hypertext as I know whatever information or posting it is directing me to in FaceBook will show up when I open my FaceBook App.  I also have noticed that many pop-ups on the Browser don't actually know if you already have the software they are promoting.

Safari status bar disappears. I have tried clicking on show status bar, under the View tab and it will only appear when I move the cursor to the top of the screen. I can not minimize the open page, only full screen or close the browser. Any idea how the rectify this issue?

One enters and exits full-screen with control+command+F keys. This is on the View menu in Safari. Optionally, the green traffic light in your browser title bar, if you roll over it, has the full-screen control it it. While in full-screen mode with Safari, moving your mouse pointer virtually up, and off-screen reveals the Safari title bar again, and you can click the green traffic light to exit full-screen mode.
You can hide/show the status bar by simply typing command+/. This too, is on the Safari View menu. and in 10.10.1 — it works reliably for me.

• When I click on a link in Thunderbird, Firefox 4 starts, but just shows the home page, not the page I clicked for

When I click on a link in an email in Thunderbird, Firefox 4 starts, but only shows the home page(s) not the page of the link

I think i've found how to fix this issue when it appears. Don't know what caused it to happen, but that's up to the devs.
In Thunderbird, you need to re-register http and https to make them open with Firefox (or open well with firefox in this case).
How to to this?
Well... open the about:config in thunderbird. You can achieve this by clicking configuration-editor in the advanced tab.
search for the strings: network.protocol-handler.warn-external.https and network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http. Set both to "true".
The next time you click on a link from within Thunderbird, it will ask you to set wich program you'd like to open it with.
Be Aware now!!! Firefox may already be listed in there, but don't pick that one. instead... choose to browse for the app and point to the binairy/exe of firefox.
(for example: /usr/bin/firefox or c:/program files/mozilla/firefox.)
You will notice that firefox now does open up with the page you just clicked on.
If it doesn't right away... just restart thunderbird and check again.
Please respond if this works for you too on all platforms. It's more interesting to know it does than if it's not.

• When I sign out of my bank account, Firefox says its blocked and I have to close the browser, why?

I clicked sign out from my bank account, and a message came up that my account has been blocked, and I am requested to close my browser. Once I received an error message.
ID Code:c967ecee-285b-4a1c-85fe-3f5cfdaaafdd
This has happened several time now!
Can you help me solve this problem?

It depends on how paranoid you are.
There is a theoretical risk that a site in another tab or window could read through the history of your banking session and extract information, but that probably is very rare.
You definitely want to close the browser before leaving the PC available to another person.

• When I click on a link, it opens in a new tab, FF3.6, would open a link in the same tab, unless Iwanted it in a new tab.

Any link that isn't a button, opens in a new tab.

I don't know of this behavior being changed just by going to Firefox 4.0, basically this is difficult to do if you want that behavior.
Middle-click defaults in Firefox to opening a link in a new tab (I override through the system to be "Enter")
Do the links open into separate tabs or do they open into the same different tab (like in Google searches).
Does this happen from any web page. Normal preferences (but maybe not default) used from search bar, and search results.
Firefox 4.0 introduced app-tabs which are pinned or unpinned from the tab context menu (right-click on tab). A pinned tab would not show the title on the tab and shows the favicon centered on a narrowed tab. Links opened from pinned tabs open in a new tab, does not apply to use of keyword shortcuts -- not links.
"Perma Tabs Plus" extension could do that but you would have to invoke it for each tab, though isn't of much/any use in Firefox 4.0 although it did work differently it is or was not working same with Firefox 4.0 (though I still have it active).
"Tabs Mix Plus" fiddles around with a lot of things almost anything could happen and it could leave things permanently switched (if you have it check it's options; I would never recommend the extension).
Try bringing up Firefox once in "Safe Mode" to see if that behavior disappears. Firefox 4 can help you with that quickly though Help ("Alt+H") -> "Restart with add-ons disabled..." this method will bring up safe mode for only the one time, then back to normal. This may not affect all things changed in "Tabs Mix Plus" but otherwise if things work properly in safe mode it generally means an extension was involved.
If an extension is involved the first place I look is "Problematic extensions " then the process of whittling down possibilities by disabling/reenabling half of enabled/disabled extensions described in Extension issues within "Standard diagnostic - Firefox - MozillaZine Knowledge Base ".

• Often when I click on a link to open an email to go to in an article, it opens a blank FF window and not the email format it should.

Since upgrading to FF 4.0 when I click on an email link it never opens to that link but to a blank FF window.
Would FF 5.0 fix that or what do I do?
I'm afraid to use 5.0 because 4.0 caused a multitude of problems for me, not all fixable.

• How do I configure so when I click on a link it opens vs downloads?

When I click on a pdf link the pdf is downloaded vs. opens. How do I change this option to open?

I'm using MacPro laptop with latest Firefox software. Unfortunately all options open up my download folder where I have to save file and then open it. Probably a simple answer, but not for this meat head. When I get the right answer there will be alcohol involved...

• When I click on a link that opens up automatically in a new window (ie internet banking), it will not load at all.Page remains blank.

Links that open in new windows do not load. The page remains blank. I have downloaded other web browsers and these pages all work with these browsers. I have been using firefox for years and this has only started happening in the last month or so. Is there an update that can fix this? I have also uninstalled and then reinstalled firefox and still the same thing.
There are no error messages, just a picture of a white sheet of paper in the top left hand corner with the writing "search book marks and history". New tabs are working, it's just the new windows that won't load.

• When I click on a link on an email and another firefox window is open it doesn't connect to the link in a new window.

I need to close the tab that is open before it will open a new one from the link.

• When I click on a link, Firefox opens a new window for that link, how do I change this setting?

I am unaware of having made any changes to my settings before this started. The best way I can describe it is that simply clicking on a link causes it to "open link in new window" rather than simply "open"
