When I click on something to open, it gives me a prompt to open link in new window and i want it just to open, how do i do that?

When I am searching the web and i click on a link it prompts me whether i want to open in a new window. I used to click and it would take me right to the place i wanted to be. how do i get that setting again? I have since gone into preferences and told it to automatically open in tabs(?) but I am not sure how this works. Thanks for your help.

Iss it possible that you are "right clicking" on the mouse? Go to System Preferences / Mouse and check the settings there are correct?

Opening links in new windows and paging thru them

Just got a new MacBook Pro and I've got a ? about Safari.
I've got my settings for opening up a new window when I command-click set for opening a link in a new window and making it active. On my old iBook G4 you would use this command-click and it would set up the next windows in the order that you opened them and keep them that way when you command-` thru the pages. Now it seems to just randomly page you thru. And if you close one window, it starts you going the other way thru the pages. Highly annoying and don't know why they changed this.
Is there a new setting I'm missing or something? Thanks.

Ok my firefox restarts all the time. I play games on facebook and my cursor restarts alot. I have cleared cache and temp files. when I click on something I get the little blue wait circle all the time. I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, didn't help.

I move my cursor and it stops and the little circle appears. It takes a few seconds for the cursor to come back. Sometimes as I'm playing the page refreshes. I have windows 7. How do I get back my earlier version of firefox? All my plug ins are up to date.

Never mind, it somehow fixed itself. At least the itunes store did, but my ipod nano is still not able to sync.

After updating Firefox, it continues to prompt me to download the new version and will not allow me to open a window.

Open link in new window error

I have created a Word 2013 document with hyperlinks to PDF documents that I have also saved within the same Folder eg. My Folder: PDF Folder (with several PDF documents saved here) / My word.docx
When I create the hyperlink I use 'Target Frame' as 'New Window' and this works fine from the word document eg. when I 'ctrl'/ and mouse click on the hyperlink it opens the PDF document in a new window and still keeps the word document open.
However when I convert the Word document into a PDF document and then click on the hyperlink the PDF document opens but the main document closes - I need to be able to open the new window to view the hyperlinked PDF BUT still have the main document still open. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

I have used this method in Acrobat xi - and selected 'New Window' which it does open in a new window but my original pdf document disappears and while I can close out of the new window with the small x in the top right hand corner and can then 'Open a recent file' this is not how I want it to work - I would like to original pdf to remain open.

Something is seriously wrong then. Did you move it? There are several Library folders. One of them should be inside your HOME folder.
If WZZZ suggestion does not work, re-install your OS by using Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo. When done, repair permissions and restart your computer.

A window is suppose to open if you click on an app. You need to clarify exactly what is going on. Are you saying 2 windows are opening up? If so, check your speed settings in System Preference>Mouse.
Since you did not provide any system info (blank system profile) I cannot offer any further suggestions.

hello, when this is happening after you've already updated firefox with your admin account, try to delete the ''updates'' folder and ''active-update.xml & updates.xml'' within the %localappdata% folder of your restricted account like it is described in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update#Software_Update_not_working_properly

It sounds to me as though you are attempting to open a Pages 09 document with the Pages 08 application. If you do have Pages 09 on your computer, it may be that for some reason an existing Pages 08 application is invoked accidentally.

Looks like all I needed to do was ask the question and I would answer it.
It is definitely the outlook 2013 calendar item that had the new status. Even though I changed the item to a valid status, I needed to completely remove the item and add it back in with a valid legacy status from the start.

When I swap to private browsing firefox allows me to anter the website address directly into the location bar - but this is a slow [prcess to swap back and forth - also by dint of using private browsing I loose my website information.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. 
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions. 
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
