When I click to open an email, the screen instantly reverts to the compose email page. That page is then saved in my Drafts folder.

This problem doesn't happen when I use Internet Explorer, only Firefox.

Next time, instead of clicking, do a right click as a test.
Check the options on the web site.
Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.
