When I close Firefox and try to restart it, my system thinks it's still running, and I must reboot in order to start Firefox 3.6.11.
When I close Firefox and try to restart it, my system thinks it's still running, and I must reboot in order to start Firefox 3.6.11. I'm running Windows Vista and this is the only program that has this problem. Another symptom is the program does not show up in my recently used programs list nor is it in the task list once I've closed it, though Windows will not open it because it thinks it's still running.
I am also using Windows Vista 64 bit and have the same problem..what i do is instead of rebooting the computer press CTRL ALT and DELETE key. start the task manager and go to the Process tab and look for firefox .exe click on it and hit the end process tab. close that window and firefox should run... and this problem started when i upgraded to firefox 3.6.12
If anyone has a permanent solution please post.

Hi, the FaceTime just did not work between my mom and I. It used to work weeks ago, but now it does not work after showing"connecting". I feel frustrated and try all the method I can think of. Still do not work. Hope u can help me. Thanks!
Was it just this one time? Could be that you, or your mom, were experiencing network problems. Try again at a later time.

I am using Firefox in a Windows 7 64-bit environment. I have what I feel is a fairly standard set of programs installed. MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, Nero Burning ROM, Diskeeper... etc. And I have the latest regular version of Firefox installed, version 3.6.13.
And lately 2, out of 3, times I close Firefox it must not be closing correctly. But I cannot tell until I need to reopen it. Then I get an error message saying that it's already running and I should close the "current instance" of the software. Now I can either start up the task manager and kill it ... or I can restart my computer. And I've done both. But it keeps happening.
So I am wondering what might be causing this to happen? And If there is anything I can do to correct the issue? For more information see [[Basic Troubleshooting]], under

while browsing suddenly the system crashed and the bottom panel says " stopped".When closed and re-opened, I got a prompt that says firefox is still running and i have to close to open again or have to restart the computer but it doesn't work
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== just happenedYou get message "firefox is still running" and computer restart doesn't help you. Try the advice below.
Make sure Firefox isn't running (end firefox.exe process in Task Manager or restart computer)
Find your profile folder
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
find file "parent.lock" in it and delete it (the file is empty, its function is to signify to Firefox whether it's already open or not).
Then try to open Firefox again. Will it start or not? What will it say? -
I close firefox and when I try to open it later, a pop-up says it is still running and I have to restart my pc? tried closing Firefox down but Task manager says it is NOT running even though the window that pops up says it is still running??
When you go to task manager, go to the "processes" tab, right click on "firefox.exe," and select "end process tree." In the picture I've attached, I'm using windows 8, so the UI is a little different, but I hope it points you in the right direction.

What do I do to straighten out this problem: When I try to access Firefox after I've logged out of a previous session I get a msg that Firefox is still running and I have to restart the computer in order to access internet...
All you need to do is wait. While Firefox appears closed, it's not. It doing house cleaning. Cleaning out cookies and cache. How long it takes depends upon how much garbage you have collected.
If you start the Task Manager and open the Process window, you will be able to see when Firefox has finished up and closed down.
If you forced Firefox to close using the task manager, then the house keeping process seems to freeze up.
Also, as you've already found out from the above link, some programs and plugins will prevent Firefox from closing properly. I've found this less common then simply being in a hurry. But you need to also consider it. -
Every time I close Firefox and try to restart it my computer leaves a message that I still have Firefox running and that it is unresponsive and needs to be closed. The problem is that there isn't a still-running Firefox to be found, consequently it is impossible to close and therefore impossible to open. I have used every form of Firefox and this is the first time this has happened. Please, please don't force me to use Chrome or iExplorer!!
Start Firefox in Safe Mode (above). Wait a few minutes, then close Firefox.
Is there still a problem?

I close a Firefox browser and at a later time want to open a new browser window but get message "Firefox is still running and I need to shut down before I can open a new session" I do not want to shut down as this is laborious - I can go into task manager and processes and click on Firefox and end session that way but this is not the solution. Firefox seems to be running in background but I cannot open a new session window without doing on of the above.
Have a look at this post, see if it is of any help (though related to Vista, but same issue can be there with Window 7 also)

After closing down firefox I may click on a URL to go to a web site and Instead of Firefox reloading I get a window stating it is still running and I have to close it down before it will reload. Well, there is nothing to close down......how do I fix this. It happens quite often and is very frustrating.
I do not want to have to reboot my PC just to get firefox shut down.
LarryTry holding control, alt and delete down in succession and then a dialogue box will appear with windows task manager. Once open click on the Processes Tab and look for firefox.exe. Highlight this and then click end process. It should come up with a warning but just click Yes. This should then close firefox and allow you to reopen it from your desktop without shutting down your computer. Hope this helps.

I have an error when installing apps on my mac from the apple store. It says "return to the purchase page and try again"... I think it is something to do with the installation process itself. I have tried to clear apple store cache, restarted apple store from debug menu, double checked my apple id account and etc..but doesn't work anyway.
I'm having the same problem and went as far as to delete and reinstall the AppStore and still no dice.
