Only since a few weeks, when I close Firefox and after a wile want to use it again I get the notice that there is still a version running. I do not find this version and so I cannot close it. The notice advises to restart the computer. then the Firefox starts again. I uninstalled Firefox en reinstalled but without any change.

Hello fredakis, go for a clean re-install, This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ (full installer) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default in Windows:
* C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
*C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

• Copy/paste in a Word document loses its format (bullet points, coloured tex, etc) when Firefox is open. When I close Firefox it is fine again. I am not talking about copying and pasting text between MS Word and Firefox. It is within MS Word itself.

MS Word 2003 Basic Edition SP3

Disabling the the Skype Click to Call extension fixed the problem.

• Why does Firefox try to launch Adobe and/or Quicktime when I close Firefox? What is it loading into those programs?

When I shut down Firefox, it tries to start Either Adobe Reader, Quicktime, or both. It has done this ever since the first time I installed an used version 4. The applications do not actually launch, as in a window opening, but they are then present as a process in the system, and I have to close them from the Task Manager. It usually launches just one, but, if it's trying to launch one, and I use Task Manager to close it, it then launches the other. If I hurry and stop that one, Firefox reports that it messed up, and wants me to keep using the Internet for its own purposes that have nothing to do with what I was using the Internet for. This never happened under previous versions of Firefox. Do I need to revert to a previous version? I'm running Kaspersky Internet Security, and it shows I have no malware or the like on my computer, which could cause this. So, why is Firefox trying to do things I did not ask it to, and then expecting me to let it phone home to tell about it when I stop it. By the way, out of good practice, I often close down my Internet connection before closing Firefox, (in case I do get something like a Key Logger loaded, to prevent it from sending its final report before the cache is cleared), but this also happens when I have not yet closed my Internet connection before closing Firefox, so I do not think that is the issue, nor should it be. Your question below about when it happens does not provide for the answer "Every time Firefox Closes", so I picked the closest such answer.

This can be caused by clearing the cookies via Clear Recent History.<br />
* Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" > [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
You can try to exclude the cookies to test that.<br />
You can let all cookies expire when you close Firefox to remove unwanted cookies and keep the ones with an allow exception.
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
If you use Clear Recent History to clear the cookies when you close Firefox then Firefox also tries to clear the cookies from plugins like Flash and starts a plugin-container process for each plugin and possibly for each cookie (?) and that can add extra time if there are a lot of cookies to remove and also can cause an unresponsive script error to appear.

Hello Brian.
You don't need to restart your computer to open Firefox again: you just need to close it manually through your application manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC in Processes tab). Anyway, hopefully this support article is what you need:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+hangs
What's probably happening is that you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode and select Disable all add-ons. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

• When I close firefox "everything " is cleared! EXCEPT when I open it again and anything i have copied to the clipboard (paste icon) remains lit... I believe this can be a security breach because I clear everything when closing firefox !!

I have my settings to clear everything when I close firefox ver 3.6.13. If I copy something to the clipboard, the Paste icon lights up so I can paste the text... which is normal.
The problem is when I close the browser and everything is suppose to clear (history, etc) the PASTE Icon still lights up for me to paste again.
This can be a security breach because I want everything cleared when closing the browser !!!
The only way I can rid myself of this problem is to restart the computer... which clears the clipboard of the operatinging... which is absolutely normal as well.
I should not have to restart the computer each time.
Try It !!! type text in any box... then paste it by using the PASTE Icon
CLEAR all your history, everything ... then close firefox
Reopen the browser... and the PASTE Icon will light up

I only had a few addons installed, I disabled Zone Alarm toolbar, View Source Chart 3.01. I also had 5 separate java console updates/addons, and I uninstalled all but the latest java console 6.0.21. All I have now is Roboform 6.9.98, Firebug 1.5.4, Java console 6.0.21, Java quick starter 1.0. So far, so good, the problem has not occurred today. I hope this is it, I will be more sure after a few days problem free. Thanks for the info.

• I copied this from your 5.0 download information: "All of the App Tabs you have set when you close Firefox will open as App Tabs when you start Firefox again." When I opened my computer today all my apptabs from yesterday had disappeared. Why?

Your download page for 5.0 stated: All of the App Tabs you have set when you close Firefox will open as App Tabs when you start Firefox again.
I liked the convenience of using App Tabs and was disappointed to find that the ones I had set up yesterday were gone today. Am I doing something wrong?

Works fine for me, I can simulate your problem by improperly closing Firefox.
The correct way would be to close the windows you don't want and then to exit Firefox through the File ("Alt+F") menu then use Exit or Quit depending on your system.
But I can simulate your problem by closing the good window with "X" in the upper right-corner first (the one with the app-tabs) and then close the other window by any means.
You restart Firefox and open a window, since you closed without app-tabs there are none so you just see a window with your home page.
Firefox has some things added to Firefox 4 and therefore in Firefox 5.
# "Alt+S" (History menu)
# "Restore Previous Session" (that's the window without the app-tabs, but you have to this first)
# "Restore Recently Closed Windows" -- can choose which window to reopen based on name and the mouse-over tells how many tabs. or you just use "Restore All Windows" without the guessing.
I know you are on a Mac, and this affects Windows user more than anybody else, but it does affect other systems besides Windows, occasionally, perhaps more often now with the plugins container.
The following may not completely eliminate having to terminate Firefox through the Windows Control Panel but it will come very close.
Plug-in and tasks started by Firefox may continue after attempting
to close Firefox The "X" in the upper right-hand corner closes the
Window (same as Ctrl+Shift+W) but even if it is the last Firefox window,
it does not necessarily close Firefox .
The only proper way to exit Firefox is to use Exit through the
File menu, not the "X" in the upper right corner of last Firefox window.
In the Firefox 4 and 5 that would be Alt+F then X

Use the Windows Task Manger to remove all running firefox.exe in the "Processes" tab of the Windows Task Manager, then restart Firefox.
If Firefox will still not start, remove the parent.lock file from the profile which is created each time Firefox is started to prevent other Firefox tasks from running, see<br>

I am running Windows XP, Office 2007, and Firefox 3.6.13.
Whenever I have Firefox running in the background and I attempt to paste information between Excel cells a "Cannot Empty Clipboard" error is generated. I have attempted numerous other fixes for this: Excel and Office settings. But nothing seems to help. When I close Firefox, the errors are no longer generated.

The Skype add-in was the culprit in my case. Disabling it fixed the problem. As soon as I enable it, the problem comes back.

I could also kill the process from the command prompt, but both of those methods are slow and annoying.
