When I close my browser (Firefox 6.0.2) Acrobat Professional 6.0 is opened. OS is Win XP Ver 2002 SP 3.

Firefox 6.0.2 on a Win XP 2002 SP 3 system invokes Acrobat 6.0 professional when it is closed. The acrobat program opens, and then disappears, but remains active in the task manager at 00% CPU utilization. This behavior is not dependent on the last web site visited.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • When I close the browser, firefox won't open again. I get the message "Firefox is still running, restart your computer." How do I fix this?

When I close the Firefox browser by clicking on the X in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, the window closes. But when I want to open Firefox again, I cannot. Instead, I get a message, "Firefox is still running. Restart your computer." This happens a few times a week and is very disconcerting. How do I fix this problem?

I will only close the browser by using your suggestion, File > Exit, from today on, and see what happens. Thank you for your expedient reply.

  • How can I keep a cookie for a certain site when I have set Firefox to delete cookies when I close the browser?

I have set Firefox to delete all cookies when I close the browser. Some websites identify my computer with a cookie, so when I try to log in to these sites, they don't recognize my computer because the identifying cookie has been deleted. I understand that Internet Explorer has a feature that preserves specified cookies, but haven't been able to find that capability in Firefox. Is there a way to do it?

Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox.
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
Make an Allow exception for the ones that you want to keep.
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions"
You can inspect and modify the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences" (Site Preferences includes the cookie exceptions)
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies that have an allow exception.

  • When I close my browser and reopen, it, all of the tabs that were previously open reopen, does not refresh and open with my home page opening.

when I close my browser and then reopen it, it does not go to the selected home page, but reopens with all of the previous tabs. reviewed the available knowledge based answers, but none seemed to fix problem. I'm not certain that I did everything correctly, but I believe I followed the directions properly. problem persists.

Assuming Firefox is set to start up with your home page, there are two common reasons for this:
    * You have a user.js file instructing Firefox to ignore your previously saved settings and restore the earlier session. See this article on tracking down and removing that file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    * Firefox is crashing, and doing an automatic crash recovery. As a diagnostic, you can change what Firefox does during a crash recovery, from automatically restoring to showing a list of windows and tabs from your previous session so you can pick and choose what to restore.
    ''To try the change:''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''sess''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes''' preference and change the value from 1 to 0 and OK that.
    Hope that helps.

  • Cookies are not being cleared when I close the browser although the option is set. Any suggestions?

Under Options; Privacy I have Clear history when Firefox closes ticked and within the Settings for Clearing History I have Cookies ticked. Cookies are not being cleared when I close the browser. Windows 7, SP1 x64

If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file <i>cookies.sqlite</i> that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b> (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> and <b>cookies.txt</b>, if they exist, in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

Look for class .ac-emphasize-text and apply modified rules as you like.
You need to add the !important flag to override rules.

    * Use a plain text editor like Notepad to create a (new) userChrome.css file in this folder (the names are case sensitive)
    * Paste the code in the userChrome.css file in the editor window and make sure that the userChrome.css file starts with the default @namespace line
    * Make sure that you select "All files" and not "Text files" when you save the file via "Save file as" in the text editor as userChrome.css. Otherwise Windows may add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with a not working userChrome.css.txt file

  • The App tabs that I set get erased when I close the browser. How do I get them to stay?

I have set app tabs during a browsing session. The tabs stay in place as I go from site to site. • Why does the Welcome to firefox tab open with my google tab every time I open the browser? And why can't the browser hold any add-ons I downloaded? I loose then when I close the browser, even tool bars have to be reinstalled every time I open the browser

Every time I open the browser the Welcome to Firefox tab is the first tab, then a second tab opens and thats my google, then a 3rd tab opens for me to reinstall my toolbar. This has been happening for a good year. Updates have not fixed it. Others have this problem. I did a search for an answer, the question is out there but no answer. Now if I go into add ons and add a background Theme or an extension it all is gone when I exit the browser. When I open the browser again I get all 3 tabs and have to install my toolbar again. I DO NOT want to reinstall as I will loose all my saved data, passwords, bookmarks, everything! I have had this computer for a year, Windows Vista x64 bit. Its not the computer, it's the browser. If you have specific questions e-mail me and I will be more then happy to help

  • I have a problem with Firefox. The checkbox for "Block pop-up windows" under Tools – Options – Content unchecks itself when I close the browser.

In other words, I can go into the content tab, check the box to stop pop-ups, but if I close the browser, and then reopen it, the box is no longer checked. What is the cause of this?

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, none of the fixes that you directed me to worked; the “safe mode” fix, prefs.js change to prefs.jsOLD fix, the blow it out and reinstall fix; and prefs-1.js does not exist. I’m willing to try any other fixes you can think of, so send them along if you have any.
One thing that did come to mind though is; the extension “.js” is for java script. And, with Firefox 6.0 installed, the Java 6 Update 26 is disabled, with the message under add-ons – extensions being, “Java Console is incompatible with Firefox 6.0.” Could this be the reason I can’t get the “Block pop-up windows” box to remain checked?
I’m not an IT guy, so any further help will be appreciated.

  • Why my costumized settings change back to default, when i close the browser?

I keep trying to customize that the browser open the windows and tabs from the last time and that before downloading something to ask me before and i save all this, but when i close it and open it again, the settings get to the default mode, meaning i get the home page instead of all the tabs i was having, and also the downloads get into the C: Downloads instead asking me where i want to save them. How can i fix this? I have the last version of Firefox (18.0.1).

Have you checked out this article: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]]. Note: I would save the Reset step until after you have tried some of the specific things.
By the way, if you are using any sandboxing or virtual machine software to run Firefox, this may require a different approach.
