When I close tabs, they reopen after I restart Firefox.
I can close a tab (or several), but when I restart Firefox, the tabs that I had previously closed are reopening. I have disable Yahoo Toolbar and Personas and the only other add-on running is Java and Real Player Browser. This does not happen in IE.
additional info: When I restart Firefox in safe mode, the problem tabs do not "reopen".

Your Firefox 9.0.1 is not the latest version anymore, so please update to the latest Firefox 10.0.x version via Help > About Firefox. -
Lion: how to keep apps from reopening after I restart
How can I keep previously opened apps from reopening every time I restart. I close the apps before I shut down, and then they reopen after I restart.
The following works for me.
One time only.
Quit all apps before shutdown.
Click shutdown.
Uncheck the reopen box and click shutdown.
From then on.
Quit all apps.
Hold the option button while clicking shutdown. -
Hey guys on my mac book pro after updating three apps wont leave my dock, when i close them they just re-appear they are "LoginServer", "USBServer" and "NetServer" any ideas to what is the issue?????? PLEASE HELP.
Hi I have just got back from the apple store and the guy at the Genius bar looked at it and said it was a manufacturing fault, and because it has been like it since new, and seemed to be getting worse he replaced the computer and I have a new warranty from today.
We got the feeling as soon as he looked at it that he has seen this before, I did say to him I was concerned it would be a replacement screen and I was not really happy about that as it was so new, and he said that was the normal procedure, but as the fault was already there at new and it was getting worse they would replace. I could not have asked for a better service.
Not unpacked this one yet but am hoping all is good, its a great little machine.

In System Prefereneces, when I am in Desktop and Screen Saver, I am unable to remove folders. I can click the "-" and the folder appears to be gone, but when I close and then reopen System Preferences, and open Desktop and Screen Saver, the folder reappears in the list. I have tried deleting preferences "plist" but I am totally unable to remove the folders.
I've seen one other report like yours, and I think the issue is caused by a bug, but I don't know what triggers it.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
I have a mac OS X and when I close it and reopen my screen opens and then shuts down for an instant and then reopens. Does anyone have this occur?? I have shutdown and restarted often.
A Safe Mode boot might help ..
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
See if the problem persists. -
Hi,
I am unable to install extensions, they show up with "will be installed after you restart Firefox" even after I restart.
The "Staged" folder is present and remains after a restart, but the extensions do not get installed. They show in the extensions page with the "will be installed after you restart Firefox" message and remain like this no matter how many times I restart.
Any Idea's?

P.S. Just tried to install the "troubleshooter" add-on before posting the question and I got an error saying it cannot install because it cannot modify the needed file. (I did it manually instead)It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end side of the Search Bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.

I don't know the name of it but a toolbar at the top of the window has disappeared after I restarted Firefox. It contained add-ons such as Download Helper and I don't know how to get it back. Please help. Thanks!

Why does my currently active tab group change when I close tabs?
I think it's a bug, but I can't figure out where to post a bug report. I use tab groups (Firefox 5.0), and love them. But often, when I close a tab in one group, I get automatically switched to another tab group. More rarely, Firefox rearranges which tabs are in which groups when this happens. This usually seems to happen when I'm on a pinned "App Tab" (Gmail), and then choose to close one of the tabs via clicking its X with the mouse. I currently have 6 tab groups, all but one of which are named.
Bizarre that we've still got this bug and we are already up to FF7, anyone at mozilla care about quality?

Why does Firefox fail at giving me back all my memory when I close tabs?
When I use Firefox, I typically have 5 to 10 sessions (or windows) open. I have accounts at several sites and login at beginning of day. As more session windows are opened, I notice Firefox getting slower. Firefox gets so slow that wait time is on order of a minute to open a new session or go to a new location at some web site. If I close all sessions/windows and restart Firefox, performance is fast. Then, with task manager, I notice that when Firefox is slowest, it has consumed lots of memory, 250,000k. Even if I close all sessions, the memory remains about same. If I restart Firefox, at first session, memory allocation is about 55,000k. Is there a way to define internal settings in Firefox to get release of memory when sessions are closed? This would eliminate the need to close down Firefox and restart.

After a computer restart, Firefox always defaults in Options, Tabs, 'Open new windows on a new Tab' unchecked. After checking the box Firefox will then open new windows in a tab instead of a new window, However after a shutdown of the computer the check mark is gone and must be rechecked. Is there a way for Firefox to remember the check mark when the program is restarted?
hello gearjam, first of all it appears, that you're using an outdated version of firefox with various known security vulnerabilities - please [[Update Firefox to the latest version]] as soon as possible to stay safe while you browse the web.
regarding the problem you're observing, please make sure that no extension in firefox > addons > extension with the functionality to change tab settings is interfering here - or if this is not the case, go through the steps described in [[How to fix preferences that won't save]]. -
Tabs that are open when I close, won't reopen when I restart FF

One thing I do remember from few days/week ago, last I checked anyway, I did have FF 19.0.1, and today when I'm having problems I checked and I have 20.0.0---seems they automatically updated me, and now I have a problem.

Try rebuilding the inbox or account mailbox if this is only happening with one account. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

Saving tabs? reopen after closing safari...
Is there some addon that I could use to save my open tabs over sessions? With OmniWeb and Safari w/ Saft it's possible to close the app and have all tabs reappear the next time the browser is opened. (Also handy for crashes; Saft has a crash protection which asks to bring up all lost tabs after a crash.)
And yes, I know I can bookmark tabs, but that would generate a new entry everytime I close the browser...Why can't you just use Saft? File --> Save browser window.

firefox uses 429,992/1108 memory right now with only 3 basic tabs open-no graphics
If you mean you are asked when finishing, I've not had a problem, .
In any case you should be able to open your Previous Windown through the History Menu, and then also from there all your previous windows (might be 5 total)
