  • I can't seem to close the screen on my new MacBook Pro with ext montitor

I have a new MacBook Pro with a Samsung T240 through the DVI link. I can see my desktop on the external monitor when the laptop screen is open, but if I close it the computer goes to sleep and I cannot see anything on the T240.
I have the Bluetooth keyboard and the Bluetooth mouse. The mouse also deactivates until I manually browse for it after I wake the computer up by opening the screen.
I know I should be able to keep the display closed but how do I do this? Thanks!

Let the laptop sleep, then hit a key on the keyboard or wiggle the mouse to wake it up.

  • Retina macbook pro with thunderbolt display causes speaker issues

I have a thunderbolt display and used the speakers fine on old macbook pro. I now plug in my new retina macbook pro 15" with mountain lion and the sound plays fine for a while then starts to crackle real bad and then stops all together. If I switch the the laptop speakers then switch back after 30 or so minutes the thunderbolt speakers will work again for a short amount of time then again crackle and stop.
This may be mountain lion related but I have tried another non-retina version macbook pro with mountain lion and did not notice the issue but it was only for an hour or so. So this leads me to belive its the computer.
Any suggestions? its really really anoying and wasting my time trying to fix it.

I have the exact same issue. I hauled the TB Display into the Apple Store 3 times and finally they replaced it. Come to find out this new one has the same issue still. So It has to be rMBP related at this point. Unfortunately I don't think I have it under warranty still and the issue is hard to demonstrate. I recorded videos of it but every time I go into the store and plug it is the same as switching the speakers from internal to external and it takes 30-60 mins before it degrates to scratching sounds.
Please let me know if you ever foudn a solution. Im going to try to keep taking it in until I can get this resolved.

  • Can you replace the ssd drive in retina macbook pro with hdd inside of a bay of some kind?

Hey guys, want to replace my 256 flash based drive in my 2014 macbook pro retina with a 1th 7200rpm hdd. Is this possible with a bay adapter of some kind?

No. The SSD is not upgradeable. There is not bay. The SSD is just a small board attached to the motherboard.

  • Retina macbook pro with thunderbolt ethernet adaptor drops internet connection on open apps after waking

I recently started using a thunderbolt ethernet adaptor and every time my comuter wakes from sleep, all the apps that were open no longer use the internet connection.  I have to restart each one of them for them to be able to use the present internet connection. any ideas?

So I've noticed similar behaviour on my Macbook Air. It's a slightly different set of kit, since it's connected to a Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock (http://www.belkin.com/uk/p/P-F4U055/). I'm on my second one of these because first one went back because it kept on dropping the internet connection (sounds familiar?) - and it *might* have been occurring when waking the system from sleep (I didn't make a mental note).
Anyway the replacement was working perfectly, until today - when it's started to drop it's internet connection again, and this time I'm pretty certain that it's related to waking from sleep. The main difference now is that I *just* upgraded to Mavericks, and I wonder if the sleep problem has reared its ugly head again in the latest version of MacOS?
All in all I have to say I'm pretty disappointed with the reliability of thunderbolt & the Belkin Dock thingie. Although it should be said that a single lead from my Macbook Air to the Express Dock is simultaneously carrying: video (1920x1200), Firewire800, 3xUSB3, gigabit ethernet and sound, so I'm not that surprised this technology is prone to the odd glitch, and the cables get really warm too!
It would be great to have some solid information from Apple/Belkin about this.
    Cheers, Jon

  • My mac mac book pro w retina display will not go to sleep when I close the lid or put it to sleep.

My mac mac book pro w retina display will not stay asleep when I close the lid or put it to sleep.
I put the computer in my bag and when I open it again the machine is so hot I can almost not touch it.
I am affraid that the hardware is allready fried.
Also when I press a key to restart after it has been idle for a few minutes it often takes up to a minute to wake back up.
    This machine is bran new..
    What should I do?

    Try a SMC reset:

If no success, then use your warranty and bring it in to the nearest Apple repair facility for rectifying this problem.
    Ciao.

  • Powers off when i close the lid

    Hey all,
I am having what seems to be a problem with many others with HP laptops.
Recently after an HP update, my laptop shuts down when i close the lid.
It seems as though, something in the update has corrupted something.
Im not sure if HP needs to put out an update to correct this issue, or if I need to fix the BIOs somehow, or what.
If anyone is familiar with this issue, and can assist me in fixing it, it would be greatly appreciated.
Please keep in mind before replying that....
    1. this was not happening before and is happening now
    2. I have gone into the power settings and confirmed that it has been switched to "do nothing" when the lid closes
    3. only started happening after HP did an update
    Thanks in advance

I see that after doing an HP update your notebook shuts down when you close the lid.  You have checked the power settings and they are set at do nothing.
I would try this step first.
Go to the command prompt and run as administrator.
Type powercfg -restoredefaultschemes and press enter.
You can run the HP Support Assistant to aid with HP updates.
You could consider doing a restore back to before the HP update?
Have you ran the built in  Windows troubleshooter?
If you would like further assistance, please provide your exact model of HP notebook and your Operating System.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

  • I've connected my macbook pro (os 10.6.8) to an external display, but it will not go into clam shell mode!  When I close the lid the laptop goes to sleep, and I am unable to wake it using the external keyboard or mouse.

A rundown of what I've tried:
Adjusting energy settings to try to prevent sleep
Pluging the USB keyboard and wacom tablet directly into the laptop (as opposed to a usb hub)
My laptop's power cable is connected
My display (a Vizio TV) is recognized in the System Preferences panel
I'd been using this TV for about a year with my older Macbook Pro (OS 10.5.8), though using a different wireless keyboard and mouse
***Update:  The issue seems to lie with the keyboard and wacom tablet.  I am trying to use a wireless Case Logic keyboard (with dongal) and wired wacom tablet to wake the Macbook Pro in clamshell mode.  To experiment, I tried using my Logitech wireless keyboard & mouse set (also dongal) that I had been using before and it wakes the computer without any problems!  However, I really need to be able to use my wacom tablet.  If I switch to the tablet after waking the computer using the Logitech keyboard & mouse it works, but once the computer sleeps it won't work anymore.  I could keep switching back and forth I suppose, but it's sort of a pain.  There has to be an easier way!  Any ideas why the wired wacom tablet is unable to wake the computer in clamshell mode?
    Thanks!

So your keyboard or mouse won't wake the Mac when you close the lid correct? Try resetting the SMC and pram
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Why does itunes and other media continue to play when i close the lid on my macbook pro 2011???

Hey, I am new to mac and still getting used to it (making the transition from windows), its amazing! Anyhow, I cannot figure out why my itunes and other media like youtube or a film on vlc player continues to play once the lid has been closed. I thought that when i close the lid the macbook should then sleep. It does everytime when there is nothing playing. The little white light on the bottom right hand corner of the book is on but music continues to play.
The sleep option always works. If I press the power button and choose the option sleep it does so etcc.
Is this normal and am I just being stupid or is there a problem??
I bought the laptop from ebay, its a macbook pro late 2011 17inch. I dont have apple support and might have to make a trip into London to the mac store however I was hoping someone can help me...
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
Thanks if you can it is muc appreciated....!!

hey, thanks for the reply. I don't know to be perfectly honest. When I close the lid without any music playing it sleeps fine. How could I check?
So basically I pressed the power button and pressed sleep. The laptop turned off and the little white light turned on no problem. I did the same thing with closing the lid and it went to sleep no problem. (Can you confirm that when the little white light is on it means the laptop is sleeping)??.
I then had itunes playing and pressed the power button and when i pressed sleep the music paused then 6 seconds later it went to sleep. I then had itunes playing and closed the lid and the music kept on playing even though the white light was on.

  • Won't sleep when I close the lid - HELP!

A while ago, my iBook G4 1GHz was knocked off of a table. The display was smashed and the whole display assembly was destroyed. I bought a new (used) display assembly and installed it. Worked fine, but when I closed the lid, the iBook woudn't sleep. I checked the placement of the magnet in the top case and I reset the PMU. Still no sleep. So I contacted the company that sold me the display and got a different one. Still won't sleep when I close the lid. I checked all of the energy settings, reset the PMU and even tried to force sleep with a magnet from another broken iBook. Still no sleep when I close the lid. It will sleep when I choose sleep from the Apple menu (OS Tiger) and when it sits for a while with the lid open, but not when I close the lid. Any thoughts?

My original problem has not been solved. The iBook still won't go to sleep when I close the lid. I have checked out any possible software causes, and have ruled them out. I have checked to make sure no keys were being pressed when I closed the lid. I took a magnet from another iBook top case and ran it down the side of the display to try to force sleep. No effect. I don't have any Firewire or USB devices attached, to that's not it. Apple, this board, PBFixit.com, and my local Apple-affiliated repair center have no idea why I am having this problem. Two display assemblies have experienced this problem. The original display had been destroyed in a drop. Could some internal damage, like maybe to the logic board, result in such a problem? It's odd that I am the only person out there who has had this problem. Weird, to be sure.

  • MB tiger 10.4.11 won't shut down but just go to sleep when I close the lid

    Hi,
I'm new to this forum but I'm desperate for your help with my Macbook 10.4.11.
Recently it doesn't shut down properly and each time I shut it down thru the green apple, it just doesn't shut down definitely but after some seconds, the screen turns to black but my mouse's light is still on. When I close the lid, the sleep light is on, too.
I've tried many advices like disabling remote facilities, e.g. Bluetooth, but it won't help. I've updated all softwares and even SMC but that won't help either. Did anyone have the same problem like mine and more important, have you had the answer yet??? I'm fed up with pressing the power off button each time.
For more info, I've installed boot camp and windows but after that, I've uninstalled it and reinstalled brand new Mac OS so there's no way that the problem comes from Windows.
Thanks in advance and waiting desperately for your help...

Hi NOTHING SPECIAL, and a warm welcome to the forums!
How much free space is on the Hard Drive?
Have you done any OS or Disk Maintenance?
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
See if it does better then after a restart or two.

  • Does not sleep when I close the lid...

Never encountered this before! I have 1 MacBook that works fine, but bought another today that will not sleep when I close the lid. It does sleep when I select it from the menu, but not when I shut it.
    Any ideas?

Mine recently started doing the same thing. Now everytime I want to go out with my computer I have to pack up the charger, even if I only end up using it for 15 minutes, because the battery is wasted by 2.5 hours.
