Hello James.
You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

  • Opening FILE it goes right back to the start page and I have to restart firefox.

    I go from start page to Mozilla Firefox and when I go to check or retrieve a FILE it closes down and goes back to the start page(screen saver) and I have to restart Firefox. Also, when I am trying to work on a website and I click FILE to retrieve pictures etc. it goes back to start page(screen saver). I tried using INTERNET EXPLORER and I do not have the problem. I prefer using Firefox.

    What do I do to straighten out this problem: When I try to access Firefox after I've logged out of a previous session I get a msg that Firefox is still running and I have to restart the computer in order to access internet...

    All you need to do is wait. While Firefox appears closed, it's not. It doing house cleaning. Cleaning out cookies and cache. How long it takes depends upon how much garbage you have collected.
    If you start the Task Manager and open the Process window, you will be able to see when Firefox has finished up and closed down.
    If you forced Firefox to close using the task manager, then the house keeping process seems to freeze up.
    Also, as you've already found out from the above link, some programs and plugins will prevent Firefox from closing properly. I've found this less common then simply being in a hurry. But you need to also consider it.

    Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:

  • Firefox is causing my imac screen to go blank (crash) and I have to restart. Most of the time its random, but recently it did it everytime I finished listening to an audio file online. Is there a solution for this?

    Firefox is causing my imac screen to go blank & I have to restart. It's been happening randomly for weeks now. I haven't been able to tie an action that causes it. Firefox is open while I work in other adobe software. Recently it has done it every time the audio file finished that I'm listening to online and that makes me think it's tied to Firefox. Is there something I can do to fix this? For now, I am going to quit firefox while I work and see if that doesn't improve my situation for now.

    Does it still happen if you disable all plugins?
    Did it start happening after a Firefox update or a plugin update?

  • I keep getting an error message that says that Google's catego can't be found & to retry, but retrying doesn't work and I have to restart Firefox several times.

    When I try to access Google, I always get a message that says this category can't be found and to report this broken site to Google or retry. Retrying never works and I usually have to exit Firefox and make several attempts before I get Google. Firefox can find my server but Google never on the first, second, or third try. Google says it is a problem with Firefox. This never happened until I upgraded to Windows 7!

  • When I close firefox I can't open a window again. It tells me that firefox is still running and I have to restart my system. This is a recurring problem on a brand new system and very irritating.

    I don't know what other details I can give you. I am not very computer wise. Just an every day web browser and emailer. This is a catch 22 problem. For example when I am installing a program; adobe flash player for example, it tells me to close firefox to continue and when I do I get the firefox is still running message even though there is no window. And so the installation isn't completed. I like firefox but this is a bit of a dealbreaker. hope you can help.

    * Try this.
    * Type in the address bar about:config.
    * Accept the warning.
    * In the page that appears, in the Filter box, type network.http.max-connections.
    * Change the value to 32 (which is probably set to 256 in your case).
    * Close the about:config page.
    * Restart the browser.

  • Running Firefox 4.0 on Mac OSX 10.6.6, using ATT mail, when I create a new email I get a browser message saying, "This page requires a plugin that can only run in 32-bit mode," and I have to restart Firefox in 32-bit mode. Is there any way around this?

    I am assuming the plugin that the Firefox message is referring to is for attaching a file to the email. I say this because at the bottom of a new email it has a link that says "Attach files more easily" which, when you click it, takes you to a setup process where you download an att updater. I ran that and it did seem to change anything. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to make Firefox handle this page without having to restart in 32-bit mode every time.

    That means that you need to run Firefox in 32 bit mode if you want to use that plugin.
    # Close Firefox
    # Open the Applications folder in Finder
    # Right click or control-click the Firefox.app icon
    # Select "Get Info"
    # Select "Open in 32-bit mode"
    # Close the "Firefox Info" window
    # Restart Firefox

  • When I close firefox it closes but then when I try to open another session my computer tells me that firefox is still running and I have to restart me computer to get it to work again.

    The message that pops up when I try to open firefox again is something like, "Firefox is already running but not responding, please close Firefox or restart your computer before opening a new session."

  • FF windows goes blank white and freezes if I click a link in another application when Print Preview is open in FF (Win 7 64-bit)

    Possible bug: FF dumps my session if I try to open an external link without closing print preview view. I had left the Print Preview screen open in FF after printing a web page, and I clicked a web link in another application, which would have normally opened in a new tab in FF. However, only the Print Preview window was displayed and when I clicked "Close", the FF window when all white. Back/backspace wouldn't work and I had to close FF and start a new session. I tested this a few times and it happens every time. I didn't think to test whether this happens in Safe Mode.

  • Internet connection is fine but sometimes pages won't load and I have to restart firefox before everything is okay why is this happening?

    Okay three times now I would go to a page I've already gone to (like my email) and suddenly Firefox will say it can't load it even though the internet connection is fine, the cookies settings are fine, and I can get to the site on Google and I can get to the Firefox Homepage. Everything turns out fine when I leave Firefox and then start it again. I never had this problem before I updated to Firefox 4. I want to know why this is happening and what I can do to stop it.

    Power off the router. Wait awhile. Power it back on. Wait until all the lights are lit up properly.

  • Everytime I close Firefox and then try to reopen it, it says that I am unable to do so as Firefox is already running (even though it's closed) and I have to restart my laptop all the time.

    For about a week now when I have closed Firefox down then I try to reopen it the screen message states that Firefox is already running and I have to restart my laptop every time. This is becoming very frustrating and time-consuming.

    I have the same problem on my notebook but I don't restart. Just do the control, alt, delete and bring up your task manager. Then scroll down to Firefox, end process and close. Now you should be able to restart FF. Not a fix but better than having to restart your laptop.
