Has this just started happening? Because my phone just started having same problem today and its worked fine for last year. Tried that link, tried some other stuff that I found on support section too and none of it is working.

My iPhone 4S is not recognised by my computer when I try to sync. I am looking to upgrade, is it just easier to purchase a new one, then manually transfer data and information? I don't want to try syncing and backing up data to just lose it all. Thank you for asking your question! It sounds like your iPhone is not recognzied in iTunes when you connect it to back it up, or update the device. I would try the troubleshooting in either of these 2 articles depending on what operating system you have:

When i connect my iPhone to iTunes, it says i have to set up my iPhone, and wont allow me to sync any media i have already purchased on it. My phone is not new, so I dont understand? This all came about when i updated the iOS 6 software. I have tried to re-set up my phone but it makes no difference and deletes everything off my phone.

If that won't work, perhaps you can use Find my iPhone from a computer in your iCloud.com account to erase the device.

This has nothing to do with the Find my iPhone app being installed on the phone, but you do have to have Find my iPhone activated in the iCloud settings on the phone. -
My iphone 4s wont sync when I connect it to the pc( not apple). It is connected as it comes up on itunes but when I try to sync it with apps/ music etc it wont. I am doing something wrong or is it a mistake with the phone. I am still able to download apps and music from itunes on my phone though.
I already restored it but that didn't help.
TIA for any replies.iPod touches or any iDevices from Apple sync only to one computer. If you sync to a different computer, all your music will be replace with the music from the new computer's iTunes. If the music were purchased from iTunes, you can re-download them again otherwise the music on iPod touch will be deleted. Do you have iTunes backup?

You may have some problems because Apple has not certified that everything works with Windows 8 yet. -

Ive got the same problem, just got my iphone unlocked, and they told me to sync it to itunes to get it permently unlocked, well everytime i plug my iphone in it says; it wont work as it needs up dating to 10.6.3, which i have already updated, but still doesnt work, so how can i get my phone unlocked?

you'll see a pop-up and there's a tab called 'Devices' there. If you click that, you will be able to check a box that says 'prevent automatic syncing for iPods, iPads and iPhones' or something like that.

NB: if you don't even see the menu bar that has options like 'File, Edit, View, etc', first click the black/white square button on the top left of your screen, and then click 'show menu bar'. It should pop right up.

I connect my iphone to iTunes everynight, only tonight this message pop out?You can try to start the AMDS by going to task manager (ctrl/alt/delete), Choose the services tab and right click on the AMDS and choose start service. As an alternative, you could take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs test it and see what is wrong beyond the failed power button. -
