When i connect my ipod to my macbook it shows up as a usb drive not in itunes.  I have latest MAC OS updates 10.7.5.  Latest itunes.  Also at some point it must have worked because my music library is on the ipod.

And one last thing: When I connect the iPod and open iPhoto, iPhoto tries to load New Photos (I think), but nothing happens. Any ideas?

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your Mac? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the Mac?

Has this iPod ever worked on this Mac or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?

    Hi Becki ..
You need to "authorize" the Mac.
Launch iTunes on the Mac then from the iTunes menu bar top of your screen click Store > Authorize This Computer.
Now, using the same Apple ID as you used to purchased iTunes media originally, you should be able to sync all your content.

  • When I connect my Ipod touch, the device dosent show up

When I connect my Ipod touch to my computor. The Device from itunes dosn' t show up. So I cant really sync my music or other stuff that I want to put on my Ipod. Please help me!.

Ok, there can be several reasons an iPod will do this:
1.) The device may have a hardware issue, such as the 20-pin connector's connection to the logic board of the device is faulty, etc.
2.) A software/firmware issue is restricting the device from connecting with the computer properly.
Here are a few things to try:
    1.)
    1. Restart your computer
    2. Power off your device
    3. Plug in your device
4.) Launch iTunes if it does not automatically launch
    if that does not work:
    2.)
    1. Keep your device plugged into your computer.
    2. Power off your device while it is connected.
    3. Disconnect your device
    4. Begin holding the home button of your device
    5. While holding the home button down, plug your device into your computer
    6. Continue holding the home button until iTunes pops up (if it takes more than, say, 1 minute, it is not working). iTunes will say it detected a device in recovery mode, and that you will need to reinstall your software. Do so by clicking the button 'Restore' under the picture of your device in iTunes (when you are on the page of  your device inside of iTunes).
    if that does not work:
    3.)
    1. Power on your device while connected to your computer
    2. Leave your device connected to your computer and power off your device by pressing the home and power buttons down
    3. After 10 seconds from the time you started holding the buttons, release the power button, but continue holding down the home button
    4. Stop holding the home button down once iTunes launches and says that your device is in recovery mode, then proceed to do a software restore by clicking on your device in iTunes, then clicking the button that says 'Restore'.

  • I've just downloaded itunes 12 and when I connect my IPod classic 160gb, I tunes shows it'sP name briefly and then then ipod silhouette at the top left simply greys out and nothing else happens. Please advise.

I've just downloaded itunes 12 onto my pc. When I connect my IPod classic 160gb, it's name shows up briefly before the ipod silhouette at the top left simply greys out and nothing happens.
    Please advise.

I finally resolved my problem after spending way too much time on it. I simply handed my 160GB iPod to my husband to put his fav Stones & Beatles songs on and I went back to my 80GB Microsoft Zune which has never disappointed me.
After spending so much time trying to figure this out I did finally take it back to Apple Store who performed a diagnostic and found there was a problem with the device. They replaced it with a refurbished one which has similar issues. All I wanted to do was listen to my music. Was that too much to ask? So I am happy to be free of this problematic device. No more Apple for me!!

  • When I connect my iPod to my MacBook, nothing happens.

When I connect my 2nd generation iPod touch to my MacBook, absolutely nothing happens. It does not show up in my itunes. My iPod does not come to life and start charging nor show any kind of reaction to being plugged into my computer at all.
I know it's not the USB port because I plugged my camera into my computer to check and that worked fine. My iPod still reacts when I put it into my iHome, so there's not something wrong with the port you plug the USB cable into on the iPod.
I have tried 4 different cables and none have worked. So I assume it's not a cable issue.
    Help?

There is a piece of software, Apple Mobile Device Services, which handles the communication between your touch and iTunes. It sounds like it is not operating. Follow the troubleshooting steps in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747
If you need to, removing and reinstalling iTunes may be needed. See this article for the proper way to do it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224

  • ITunes freezes when I connect my iPod to my macbook pro

Hello, has anyone else had this issue?
I have the newest version of itunes and have reset the iPod and everything else I can think of.
    Thanks!

MB Pro has only one USB port that is compatible for iPod Classic operations like sync or restore. The other USB port is shared internally with other IO devices, like iSight, bluetooth, infrared resulting in slowing down the datarate, hence freezing the iTunes.
try to swap to the other USB Port after you disconnect and reboot your MB Pro.
Also dont use any other USB devices, while connecting an iPod Classic to the MB Pro.
MB Pro is ok with other Apple Mobile Devices like iPhone, iPad and newer iPod Touch with faster interface devices.
    Have a nice day!

I just got a new computer with Windows 7.  I installed ITunes, and when I connect my IPod Touch 3rd generation, it says I need to transfer my files to ITunes before I sent or all data will be erased from my IPod.  Unfortunately, it doesn't tell me how.  Please help.

    This will transfere iTunes purchases:

When I connect my iPod Touch to a new laptop (Macbook Air) the "Info" tab won't appear and therefore I cannot sync it with my new iTunes. How can I sync this iPod with the iTunes on my new laptop?

There is no Info tab in Mavericks
if you use OS X v.10.8.5 or earlier. If you use OS X Mavericks v.10.9 or later, your contacts, calendars, and other info are updated on your computers and iOS devices via iCloud. For more information, see iCloud Help at icloud.com.

When I connect my ipod to my mac air it doesn't seem to recognize it- it doesn't show up on the screen. What can I do ?

Try using RecBoot to kick it out of recovery mode. If that does not work, try a manual install, as outlined in link below. If it STILL keeps entering recovery mode, you most likely need a new logic board.
