Except for the first shuffle model, the shuffle connects to the computer using the headphones jack, so there is no way to play it when it is connected to the computer. I guess maybe I don't understand the question...

When I connect my shuffle to ITunes, the SOURCE category doesn't show up!
HELP! My shuffle (bought it off of ebay two weeks ago) has been working fine. But today I ran into a problem. I plug it into Itunes, and no SOURCE category shows up. I can't even get the computer to recognize the device.
Please make your response as simple to understand as possible. I am not great with computers.
I already tried restarting the computer several times. I tried turning the Ipod on and off. I have windows 2000 and ITunes 7. Thanks!
Compaq Notebook Windows 2000 Older computerI had this same problem. Sometimes, iTunes takes a really long time (and I mean really long time)to recognize the shuffle. Disconnect the dock, plug it back in and insert your shuffle. Be patient and it should [hopefully] appear in the source list.

I recently transferred itunes library from windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. The transfer was successful, however when I plug my 3rd gen Ipod Nano into the new PC, the Ipod icon appears along with the music, playlists, etc. The songs are shown but are 'grayed out' and wont play or sync.The 'Devices & Printers' window in new PC shows icon for Ipod driver & is OK. The icon for the Ipod appears but depicts a delta shaped warning icon that states that the Ipod is'not operating properly'. Tried troubleshooting. The troubleshooting message states the the Ipod is 'disconnecting'. Can you help me with this problem?
Then, I dropped the entire itunes file from the old PC (XP) into an empty external drive.
That "itunes file from the old PC"? Is that the iTunes folder, from the old PC, that was in the user home folder's Music folder?
All of the library, playlists, etc. from the ipod as they always have been are shown, by they are 'grayed out' and will not open or play.
That's on the iPod, correct? Are all of your old playlists in iTunes, from the old PC, still there in iTunes on the new PC? Are the songs in iTunes still playable?

There are many steps, but this is a summary. (1) On the old PC, consolidate all of your iTunes data into the iTunes folder. (2) Copy this iTunes folder to the external drive. (3) On the new PC (that has iTunes installed but NOT running), replace its existing iTunes folder with the one from the old PC (on the external drive). When you run iTunes, it uses the iTunes folder from the old PC, and it should look like iTunes on the old PC (with all the playlists, ratings, play count, etc.), and your iPod will see the iTunes library as the same iTunes library (because it is the same library).
If you did something different, and the old PC is still accessible, you may want to try it using the method from the linked document. -
I changed my email awhile back and have been using it fine until the other day i had to wipe my computer clean and when I downloaded the Itunes and pluged in my ipod I lost all my purchased items. where can i find them and get them back
They would only be where you put them.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If or some reason you failed to do the basics and maintain a backup, then you can redownload purchased music in some countries:

You only get one download of movies. It is your responsibility to backup your purchases. -

just darkens and won't play movie, please helpI've seen a problem like this before. This was a solution that worked for me, as long as the songs were still visibly listed in iTunes. Select the song and check to see if the album art window says "Album Art Not Modifiable" (remember to set the album art window to "Selected Song" not "Currently Playing"). If the album art is NOT modifiable, select the songs that won't play, then go to Advanced > Convert ID3 Tags..., then click the check box next to ID3 tag version, and select the highest version, (currently v2.4).

When I connect my shuffle (2nd gen.) to my computer, it says that my ipod is synced with another itunes librar. And that an ipod can be synced with only one itunes library at a time. My shuffle is only synced with the library on this computer. What should I do? I can't play my ipod on the computer, or sync it, charge it....
If you moved your iTunes library by simply copying it to another drive, you may not be able to access your music even if you reconnect to that library, you may get a lot of "not found" errors because the music is not where the library thinks it should be. First thing to do is put it back where it was. Then reconnect it. Then follow the steps in this link:

I'm having trouble updating my iphone 4 since i updated to 4.3.3 i can't update it anymore. initially itunes would let me go so far as downloadin the new software then an error poped up as soon as the download finished, and now when i connect it to my itunes, itunes freezes for about 5 minutes then says something like "could not load sync service, reconnect or try again later" any ideas on what i shud do?

A playlist that I update on my ipod won't update when I connect my ipod to itunes
I have been using my Ipod Touch 3rd generation to create playlists. The playlists show up fine and play on the ipod, but when I connect the ipod to itunes, and click on the playlist, it does not reflect the changes made on the ipod. I have the ipod set to manually manage, so when I disconnect the ipod the songs are still on the ipod, but why won't they show up on itunes?
I also deleted some tv shows off of the ipod by way of itunes, but when i disconnected the ipod, they were still listed on the ipod, although they would not play. So somehow, my itunes and ipod are not communicating with eachother. Any ideas/fixes?Hey BingHuo,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPod will sync but not charge while connected. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

How do you delete songs that you purchased through iTunes but don't show up when you connect the iphone to iTunes? They don't show up in the music section when you click on "On this phone". Side Note: I have my phone setup to manually manage music. Please help.

If you want to delete a song from your iOS device on iOS 7, tap Songs, swipe the song from right to left, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

When i connect my iPhone to iTunes, it says i have to set up my iPhone, and wont allow me to sync any media i have already purchased on it. My phone is not new, so I dont understand? This all came about when i updated the iOS 6 software. I have tried to re-set up my phone but it makes no difference and deletes everything off my phone.

If that won't work, perhaps you can use Find my iPhone from a computer in your iCloud.com account to erase the device.

This has nothing to do with the Find my iPhone app being installed on the phone, but you do have to have Find my iPhone activated in the iCloud settings on the phone. -

PLEASE HELP ME.This means that the phone you have was software unlocked to use on any carrier, or hacked. When you installed the update it restored the lock that originaly came with your phone. Not much you can do now. Apple will not support hacked phones. You will need to find out the carrier your phone is locked to and see if they offer official unlocking, or start googling to see if you can find a way to unlock 4.2.
