When I copy video from MBP or MB
This has been happening for a while and may well be something very simple to fix. When I dump video files off my MBP or MacBook to
an external hard drive, or even a DVD, they are totally gone other than the first frame and a nano second of the video.
What am I doing wrong?
I'm worried I've lost a lot of video clips this way.

tell me please when i copy files from downloads it will be a new file with new capacity? i mean if a file is 2 mb, when i copy it it will be new 2mb ?
If you copy it to another folder, e.g., Documents, and you can see it in the Downloads folder then you now have two copies of the file. If you delete one copy, the other stays intact. If you keep both, there is no harm, although the amount of disk space used is twice as big as when you only keep one copy.

I am just about giving up! I have upgraded Pages to 0.9 (4.3). Now when I copy text from an incoming email and paste it into Pages it pastes in as an Object and I can't work on it. It has a border round it and corner markers. I have never had this problem before. I have looked at every conceivable thing but cannot find how to get rid of this Object and just paste in the wanted text. If I fiddle and fiddle within this text I can eventually get a cursor and work on the text - but how on earth can I get rid of the surrounding box?
I don't know if this is at all clear but I can't think of any other way to describe this - but it looks like this in Pages with corner and top, bottom and side markers.

LeciaPeter hello - I have been copying and pasting for as long as I can remember and it has NEVER done this before - so why now!? Anyway, Jerry has told me about Paste and Match Style --- yet another new thing!
I have also discovered that I don''t need to hold down Option when I go to Save to get Save As - I can hold down 4 keys (shift, option, command and S) and it will bring up Save As!!

Wow that was really quick, thank you so much. Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it. I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names. isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)
either way, ill do what you suggested to the best of my abilities and thank you so much for answering my questions, i can't even open the program as its incompatible and find out the info from that) so I'm in a bit of a pickle and your response was so thorough and it didn't seem to be posted long enough to even write a well researched response, thanks, all the best,

When I stream videos from my laptop onto my Apple TV via my iPad 2 using the Air Video app/server the video plays great however when I pause the video the Apple TV reverts back to the home screen within a few seconds and then when I want to restart watching the video I have to re-buffer the video. Is there any way I can stop the Apple TV from reverting back to the home screen when I pause the video I’m watching?

I am able to pick 4 videos from the Photo library in my iPhoneAPP but when i try to pick 5th one it throws an error:

When I Copy Text From Preview, It Pastes Gibberish
More & more frequently, when I copy text from a pdf doc opened in Preview, it pasts gibberish.
I sue to be able to quit preview in 10.5.x, now on my new iMac 10.6.x, it keeps pasting the same old gibberish.
Besides using Reader, is there anything else that I can do because I like preview.Sounds like a mucked up font database. Restart into safe mode (hold down the SHIFT key during restart and after the chime), then restart normally. Details in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455 Afterwards, launch Font Book, reset any collections, validate your fonts, and then resolve duplicates.

I usually just add them to an iTunes library and then sync with the phone. File / Add to LIbrary, select Movies under Media down the left hand side.

Just to add.....I created a folder on my PC to store all videos taken from my iPhone and my wife's iPhone.
I just cannot sync those videos taken using my wife's iPhone to my iPhone. -
When I download videos (from an external hard drive), they appear to be downloaded (file sizes look correct) but they all stop playing a few minutes in!
Try the following in the terminal
ls -alh filename
du -chs filename
And what happens if you play the files directly of the external drive? -
When I import video from my iphone to imovie it doesnt look right, it makes everyone look wider and shorter. Is there a way to fix this?
This is close. I did a bit more digging I have found a few more things. It appears that the input dialog is a read once on connect and then it never updates. I had my iPhone connected to my Mac when I did my convert from FILMiC Pro to my Camera Roll. Just on a whim, I dissconnected my iPhone with FCPX open and then connected it again. This time when I opened up the Import window the movie I converted showed up. It appears my issue may have simply been related to the specific series of operations that I happened to use at the time I was trying to perform an import to FCPX.
One last item of note. There is a movie in my Camera Roll that FCPX still does not see. This was a movie shot by my son-in-law of my grandaughter on his iPhone and then it was sent, via message, to my iPhone. Obviously it is a highly compressed video of unknown compression and frame rate. Regardless, FCPX does not see this video. I'm guessing it is not a .mov quicktime file but some other format specific to imessage video.
Thanks for the help Russ. It at least pointed me in the right direction. I understand why no one else could comment as I'm guessing no one else has had an issue. A very subtle "feature". -

Copying video from multiple itunes
I have 2 pc's with latest version of itunes. I have no problem copying music from either itunes to my touch. I purchased a copy of a movie from itunes and downloaded to one pc. Purchased a dvd copy of another movie that came with a digital copy that I put on the other pc. It will let me copy a video from either itunes to my touch but when it does it tells me the touch is currently synched to the last pc I was on and will synch to the new pc and delete the video I loaded from the other pc. Both movies are legally purchased. Any ideas?
Also, I have tried copying the dvd/digital video from my ipod to the other computer. It keeps telling me that I need to authorize that pc. It already is.

Hey, so I just got an iPhone 5, and i've come across an issue involving sending videos. I am now thinking it is quicktime on my computer, but here's the situation. I e-mail videos taken from my phone to myself, or my coach, for review. I did that a lot with my 4s when running ios 5, and everything was fine. Now when I e-mail videos from my iPhone 5 (ios 6), my computer will show a thumbnail of the video, but when I open it in quicktime, the video is black, but there is sound. I am however able to open it in VLC player, but i would much prefer to be able to open it in quicktime. Could it be the way it was compressed when e-mailed? When I plugged my phone into my computer and copied the full (uncompressed) video file from the iphone, it opened fine in quicktime. Also my coach has quicktime pro on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), and both files open fine.
I am running Windows 7, with Quicktime version 7.7.2.
Any ideas?The only fix I know right now for Windows users is QuickTime 7.7.1
